Garmin 60csx will solve all your accuracy problems. Under that dense tree cover when you were kneeling, you would probably be in the area of 12-15 feet.
Makes it so much easier to find them when your not bouncing around from 40 feet to 100 ft.

You should have a compass setting which gives directions and mileage or footage as you get closer.

Use the compass part of your GPS. It might help you get to ground zero quicker.
