I did this over the summer of 2011 as an 8th grader going to 9th and it only helped a little. I got all the way up to Intermediate II and yet my handles weren't even that good. I couldn't even mix people that well. I don't understand how people supposedly get better handles after beginner cause that shit didn't work.
To ever one who says do every thing as fast as you can. NO. I was coached by a Iceland semipro basketball star. Take it slow feel the ball feel the way your hands move when you are running through the motions the game of basketball is not always how hard you play but how sharp and smart you play your cards I am probably the slowest point guard you will ever meat but I don't need speed I need to see the court and players on the court what they are doing and judge where I need to be to get that g
@MP5KProductions You made point. That's exactly what I am talking about. It's not about how hard you train or play, but how smart. I.g. this quote is making it's way more and more into powerlifting and strenght training. More and harder is better is one of the Dogma. Break it and evolve. However *more and harder* doesn't mean that it's always a bad thing. Especially at the beginning phase you need more quantity and strive for quality, Usually you can't have quality right from the start.
"For Every Drill, Every Move, Every Burst, Every Dribble, Every Combination, For Everything, YOU NEED TO PERFORM IT AS FAST AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN" - Alex Maroko
do you think that you are going by this principle that alex said?
@castaway140 Sure, because otherwise the ball will fly out of my hands. ("Fast, but not Sloppy" - Alex) Plus that was just a start. I'm not even trying to be as fast as Alex, since it's not even required to get past an opponent. The main reason I followed this program was to get a better feel for a ball and preform various combinations/moves easily.
@GLYDE8 all the great ballhandlers in the nba , pound the basketball, when you pound the ball hard, it makes you feel for the ball better, makes your handle faster, and the faster you cud dribble the ball, the faster you will be , if i were you , i would do the program all over again, because u didnt get all the benefits from it, my ball control increased alot just after two weeks of beginner, when i did it, thats cause i pounded the ball hard, and i went as hard as i can, but thats up to you
@castaway140 idk the exact quote alex said but i do know that someone in the program in the beginning he said do it as fast as you possibly can without losing the ball. dont go so fast you are losing the ball all the time because you arnt benifiting yourself at all
@Remvasion It's ok. You can get pretty descent ball handling skills, but if you want to get quicker with ball/hands it will not probably happen. At least too much or noticeably, that is if you're not in a very bad physical shape.
Anyway after completing the whole thing you won't be scared of loosing the ball to your nearest defender and pull out a neat trick once in a while.
you could get better handles from this program, but you are practicing with little to no intensity. You need to go harder. looking at this video, you should have stayed with the beginner level. Remember every drill should be done as fast as possible. You are also looking down on most of these drills.
You should have stayed with each phase until you could do really fast and with your head up
@ThePetey0109 You got a point there, but it would take me forever. Anyway as I learned, handles are mostly not about stationary work. It's more about driving and scoring. At least for me.
Time should not matter, if you want to get better. Milking all the gains out of a program is never wrong.
Driving and scoring are a completely different thing. This is to get a feel for the ball, so when you practice your moves or you are driving in a game, ball handling will not be a problem, and you will not have to think about dribbling. You try to go as fast and hard as possible in EVERY drill, so dribbling in gamees are easy.
I thought I was going to make JV, turns out. Everyone thinks I'm weak. I have no Basketball IQ and can't make smart decisions when passing the ball.
