In my experience the comments that have annoyed me the most are the personal attacks - where they make massive judgement calls on your character/person based on the little bit you reveal of yourself in a 5-10 min vlog, or even worse, judgements based on your race (tho racist comments are never acceptable anywhere on or off yt). Had one commenter who managed to do both in one comment. If I saw them in person, I would slap them.
@kazzart I guess some people just can't deal with the complexities of real life. Their minds just couldn't cope without pigeon holing everything and everyone around them.
Hehehe... nice one. It's been a while since I've watched a GaeriSummer vid (sorry!) Many very valid points made here. I have a certain german friend who likes to "first" my videos, but I kinda find it endearing. In a way, its kind of a sign that they think your videos are worth making an effort to be the first to comment on, so to me that's not all bad. :)
Oh, and he usually makes the effort to also leave a decent comment after it, so I guess thats different than if "first" was the only comment he ever left.
it's so annoying when people say first in comments. If people can't think of anything to say in regards to the topic of the video or any opinion to state and can't act in a respectful manner, then why do they even bother commenting at all?
I get frustrated commenting on youtube at time because of the character limit makes it hard to make serious discussion... but I get that they just want you to make a video response, but I don't think that much is for me.
Besides, sometimes I don't think Youtube is a good place for debate, because you can make a great argument, and then get a crazy or irrational response from a 9 year old kid.
Another type of comment is those not directed to the video-maker but that are about the video maker - they think we don't read the comments on our videos, hehe..
e.g. "Wow, this guy's fantastic. Will he ever make another video on this?"
So OK. I want to leave a comment and clearly I am. The problem with leaving a good comment under a video like this is that you covered the topic so well, that I don't have anything to add. Sooo....well said man!
Man - that's fandom! As you or you Alter Ego said: You could read anything into the camera and those guys would find that fascinating in one way or another. You're a YT celeb, and so people won't notice what you say but just that you're on camera - and comment, that they like or dislike it.
I don't know what Aeric said, but of course I always assume that people will watch my videos for what is being said. And in any case, neither of us are YT celebs, man.
I really don't want your glasses ! ; ) I know personally that some of these comments are only misunderstandings (lost in translation). However some are merely a difference of opinion. (such as.....I would have to disagree with zebidee55's view on comments in a foreign language. I personally find it an "interesting challenge" to interpret a sentence in any other language! (Aber Deutsch ist für mich ein bißchen mehr besonders.) There are also times that (gasps) we are wrong! : )
OK so there's your Shakespeare and illustrates people who use cut & paste quotes to make themselves seem clever.
I'm guilty of using online translators to comment in a language I don't speak, but getting comments in a language I don't speak that is ALSO not the language of the video is very odd.
My least favourite are the bile spewing binary opinion holders, where having an independent thought is grounds for your execution.
My fav are the ones telling my videos to hurry up and get the point - it's like people who yell at the tv and expect them to respond.
My other 'favs' are the ones that mention something I did like 10 videos ago in the newest video comments and they want me to do it again - meanwhile I hadn't noticed I'd done ANYTHING neat/cool/weird in that video
Yeah, it's amazng what tastes people have. Some of my most popular videos I don't get why people like them. And others that I really like are widely ignored.
Hey, nice mouth ...

exactly my thoughts, if you want a decent and productive discussion Youtube isn't the best way to go in the first place.

@LukeGeoDude Fair enough.
It's just that many of us like to express themselves through video rather than text. So this is where we are.

Yeah, I'm no big fan of those, either. As for translating one's own comments into another language, I think that's nice.
