  • Start: Well, this is . . . a pretty banal subject for a short film. I wonder what Martin will do with it.

About 2 minutes in: Interesting cinematography there, but I don't really feel like it's building to anything . . .

About 3 minutes in: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUGH OH GOD OH GOD WHAT THE HELL IS THIS OH GOD THE BLOOD OH GOD!!!!!!!!!

After watching: Well, that was . . . interesting. BUT NEVER AGAIN.

  • FUCK IT, WE'RE DOING FIVE BLADES

  • the point of that was..?

  • I like this a lot! Everyone has to start somewhere, even the greats like Scorsese. Original films they did and raw footage such as this is such a motivation for me! Very happy I got to finally see this. Thanks!

  • This happens to me every time I shave. That's normal, right?

  • my 7th grade English teacher used this film to introduce "Dark Comedy"...mid-70's. It still haunts me! LOL

  • Hey Martie... can I buy some pot from you?

  • 3 people cut themselves shaving

  • Best Christian movie ever

  • we really need to see him take off his shirt 3 times from 3 different angles

  • @frother lol

  • A classic short! We used to have special assemblies in high school for this film. I didn't remember that is was by Scorsese, though.

  • This should be called the big SHIT!

  • This should be called the big SHIT!

  • превед михалыч!

  • Take it off.

    Take it ALL off!

  • Not very good, but thanks for giving me the opportunity of seeing it. We already see some Scorsese stylistic feature.

  • You saw my six minute film about a guy shaving!?

  • no ya twat

  • I'm gonna say at 3:56 is Scorsese's nod to Hitchcock.

  • I realise this film was a comment by Scorsese on the war of Vietnam - you have an entire world and you are wasting it - but is this at all meant to be black comedy? I've heard people say this, but how is it? Is it the fact he goes beyond the shaving cream into the skin?

  • Anyone know what kind of camera Scorsese used here? Just curious

  • That would hurt like a BITCH!!!

  • well theres your problem......

  • watching this the first time i was confused cas i had no idea wut it was about but after reading da posts catching the meaning and rewatching it this is so beautifuly made Scorsese is a geniuse

  • Is it true that this was considered a surreal protest against the war in Vietnam?

  • @ArthurBitter

Well, the alternative title to this is Viet '67. Thus, many people interpret this as a representation of the US's self mutilation in the Vietnam War.

  • If that is all you are seeing then it is you who are depraved, you sick fuck. Scorsese is an artist and a gentleman which is more than can be said for such sad little puritantical warped excuses for humans such as you. You don't even deserve an opinion. Very sad.

  • Why are you attacking him. You in fact don't know everything there is to know. Chill out. Stop being bitter

  • goyimking - You must be a Michael Bay fan.

  • I'll let grow my beard from this point

  • it's good; i like it - even if it wasn't scorsese and just a random film.

i like stuff like this, taking an everyday action and subverting it into something else. even if you look at it simply on face value it still has something to it. that's why it's clever - it has layers.

  • It is Scorcese.

  • i know it is.

my point was that that's not the reason i think it's good - people have suggested in comments that this is only acclaimed because of who made it. but that's not the case.

  • its a jazz standard called "i cant get started"

  • can someone please tell me what compostion scorsese used in this bizarre brilliant short movie???

  • That was weird! Kind of funny acually tbh, I was expecting it to be really disgusting from what I'd heard about it.

  • lol, look at these deconstructionist losers on here yammering about this. Do you guys REALY enjoy this bullshit?

  • We certainly don't enjoy YOUR bullshit.

  • this is a reference to the Vietnam war,

he keeps cutting his face shaving,

even though he didnt need to shave at all,

just like what america did in the vietnam war.

    scorsese is a genius.

  • Well he isn't very good at shaving is he

  • Reminds me of the time I used a Wilkinsons 'Wilko' own brand disposable razor- they were 28p for a pack of ten!

  • i thought that was gona be a lot worse than it actually was. i guess it was pretty bad for '67

  • This would never have happened with the Mach 3 Turbo Power Phantom Ultra Lite™.

  • lol.

  • @goombanomics thats only what the advertisements want you to think

  • oh Marty.

I just love the way he's always able to compose brutal violence and catchy music into beautiful poetry.

  • That's the day the seventies began !

  • INSANE!!

  • In simplest words. This is what got Marty noticed, This is based on average young american boys self mutilation in the vietnam war!

  • brilliant

  • What the hell 0_o

  • Holy crap.

  • ouch

  • yeayhh hayyeah yeah yah blah blah. film class i saw this there yeah ayyeah yah blah.

  • I hate it when this happens

  • this is obviously a metaphor for the vietnam war. we thought we were going in and cleaning up. we ended up really hurt but we didn't do a thing about it. we just kept going, completely aloof to what was going on.

  • Someone paid attention in film theory.

  • Not true. Marty said it was a satire to all of the shaving commercials that advertised a "close shave" it's in the Scorsese on Scorsese DVD.

  • Check out "Key to Reserva"!

  • Right! Search for a Noxzema-Clip of 1961, look, and LAUGH!!!!!

The 2nd meaning might also do well, but the first time I saw it I enjoyed it very much just the way it was: nasty black humour of the highest quality!!

  • Considering that its alternate title is "Viet '67," I would say this is an accurate claim.

  • you obviously read that. because obviously scorsese said it was a parody of the shave commercials that say they get so close. obviously.

  • satire, rather. obviously.

  • and obviously, if you read the comments, im obviously not the only one who thinks that, because obviously the original name was Viet' 67. So obviously i used context clues to obviously say what i obviously though about it

  • i obviously didnt read that because i was wrong. so obviously you should shut up and not accuse me of "obviously" taking claim for credit. Youre obviously sitting in your mothers basement playing dungeons and dragons while you try to "obviously" accuse people for stealing when Obviously that was just my perception.

  • lmfaoooo obviously....lmfaoooo

  • Some damn good shaving!
