I love this! The ideas and musicality are stellar! I just wish the sound was better. Does anybody know where I could order a DVD of this - preferrably something that has been properly mixed and mastered? This recording doesn't do them justice.
@Ambary2Shy I have to agree...i bet the musicians let out a groan of exasperating boredom when the drums kicked in....it made me yawn a "electronicaorchestralcrossover" zzzzz
Very cool Tim. You're such an inspirational dude. You first video on Reaktor got me to buy the thing, so I guess NI picked the right guy to interview. I love Reaktor's sound, I just wish I had the time to learn how to make my own instruments/effects.
What an awesome collaboration. Tim I am immediately wondering if you have ever listened to The Books before? If not, you will absolutely love the album, "The Lemon of Pink". It's the most subtle combination of in depth edits and the natural nuances of organic instrumentation I've ever heard. I think it would be a great influence on your future collaborations and compositions. Anyways, this is an awesome collaboration. Keep pioneering fine sir ;)
this would go better with a more grainy, down tempo beat, or no beat at all, preserving the spirit that this music was written in but still utilizing electronic techniques.
optimally, electronic music enhances the traditions of old, the last bit from 3:09 to 3:25 is a good example of this.
for those interested in this type of thing, check out brian eno's album discreet music. he and a friend got tapes of pachelbel's cannon and remixed it by playing the tapes back in an instrumental way.
We can unfortunately only a fraction of what listening to beautiful music that once was. For those who do not know it is a piece by "Jean-Féry Rebel "Les Caracteres de la Danse". Well, "Each to his"
I'm no conservative. I like new stuff... I just don't like new things that are utter SHIT. Besides, this isn't really that new. These are two independant ideas that have been rudely mashed together. It's a hybrid of some sort, but it's certainly nothing groundbreaking. It's just ugly.
i think this is an awesome idea, but most of the time the string players just sat there doing nothing. kinda makes it all lose energy

Why... would anyone want to do that. You're taking a complex flavor of music and integrating rape-your-ears techno into it.
DRUM MACHINES DON'T HAVE SOULS.

and yet sometimes i think they have bigger imaginations than classical musicians.
caaliin 2 years ago
You're right about that.
But that's because classical musicians are paid just to sit there and read what's written down on the page.
Classical composers on the other hand have amazing imaginations. This video shows very little imagination.
Dynamic range. That douchebag on the drums has no concept of it. He's just there to rape your ears with his triple-forte snare beats.

neither violins or any other instruments.
that's why they're called instruments they´re meant for humans to play.
I bet that that all conservative musicians said that same thing when the electric guitar apeared and along came blues and musical revolution
