  • bassplayer NAME?

  • @Bjorlin1 Matt Penman

  • this is isnt even good, how did i find this looking for john coltranes giant steps ]:

  • @FriedFriez it will be good eventually if you keep up the jazz repertoire. Whether you prefer it's style or not, the talent is obvious, but i can see where you'd not like it or even understand it fully (no offense intended). I'm working through new levels of classical composition myself and it definitely takes time and acclimation.

Give it a few more tries a little later on in the year - god forbid you get to enjoy that much more of what music has to offer, right?

  • there killing so hard sometimes it looks like the video is running in reverse

  • The intro hits me so hard.

  • who is the pianist?

  • @haawum Jean-Michel Pilc

  • actually he is doing a mime, i lay his drum tracks earlier that day...shhhh

  • He's really an amazing musician...but God, it looks painful to watch his technique....:/

  • @Ardent15 thats his technique actually

  • FUCK.

  • Hey! I'm the 44,444 watcher of this magnificent piece of music/video... Cheers!

  • Awesome!!!! Sounded like a musical conversation

  • i think he's the best drummer around - to have lived .... period ....

  • nothing serious... just a latin feel and the theme of giant steps... wannabee musical drummer also :-)

  • wow who let that monkey on drums

  • who are the five people who disliked this?!

  • @ayesoundmate Right?!??!?!! I was thinking that. :D

  • Talk about rhythmically out there

  • Ari no doubt is G8!!! His Xpressions drives me crazy!!! haha... looks like he's into discover of a new thing within seconds in music!!! Great!

  • I just love Hoenig's anti-technique...

    Amazing sounds, though

  • Stupefacente... veramente "bravi". I've been playing and listening to jazz for 2 years and I've never seen anything similar... incredible.

  • wow

  • He is a really good drummer .But plays so weird looks stiff .Now i know why they call him frankenstein .

  • this is madness! I love it!

going straight into my favs =D

  • wOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOw !!!!

That's all i have to say...

  • ari is one of my favorite drummers but I really wonder how much longer he'll be able to play before his technique takes a serious toll on his his arms/hands

  • I really don't believe that it will. I think much of the apparent tension is illusory. Watch his fingers and you'll see they are controlling the majority of what he does. I don't think he's putting that much of a strain on his wrists.

  • @TheLastPictureShow I completely agree. Any player of that caliber knows that the key to good technique is lots of control and the least amount of strain possible. Everyone's body is different, gotta find out what works for you. And the way Ari plays is what he found worked for him.

  • Loving the reverse songo grove at 1:10-1:13

  • 1 chorus of giant steps

  • piano player is pretty whack

  • That's a joke, right?

  • AHHHH my face has been melted off... And yeah, Matt Penman on bass. Epic

  • nice playing, but only about 11 seconds of Giant Steps lol

  • he is amazing. Some of the things he plays sound like things Bill stewart plays, and that is not meant to take away any credit from ari of course. Those same things can be traced back through time from TW and Jack Dejohnette and Roy Haynes.I saw him in NY at FAT CAT and here in london too.

  • Anyone know who is on bass?

  • Pretty sure it's Matt Penman..

  • He s scaring lol

  • omg everytime i see this video it's like he's doing a new trick, AWESOME

  • I love his approach. It's really important to have players like Ari in jazz to keep pushing the music forward and to take it to different places

  • He looks and sounds like a mad scientist. Dr. Frakenstein making a monster out of polyrhythms.

  • the man is great

  • DAMN WHAT A MONSTER!

  • I can watch this video 10x a day at least, every single day. Ari gets my vote for most incredible jazz drummer, period

  • He's definitely bad ass, but Tony Williams is already in the bag for most incredible.

  • They are both geniuses. No one is better than the other.

  • @swebnived

    Ditto

  • The linear stuff he's playing around 0:53ish onwards. Yeeeow!

  • YES, I 200% agree with that!

  • Hey - no doubt about it. Ari is amazing. No doubt about it. I can honestly say, I don't doubt it at all. Doubt? Not me. I have absolutely no doubt. Seriously, I'm completely doubtless. Doubt.

  • He's good, but he looks so uncomfortable. His style looks like the tape is in reverse. bizarre.

  • I think that Ari Honig is one of the best drummers ever...in jazz...jazz "is not only jazz"-when Ari play...great...

  • was that pilc on piano?

  • Yes

  • ari is amazing...no doubt about it

  • hmm, why would there be any doubt, didnt you listen to what he played?

  • ther's no doubt at all he is amazing, that's why i said it. do you know what "no doubt about it" means? maybe english isn't your first language. that's cool. you'll get it one day

  • I know what you said. maybe its just me but i think its weird that someone would doubt something so obvious.

  • it's just you.

  • Screw you, Apreshio.

  • ocsoundwaves was saying that there is no doubt that Ari is amazing. O_o That there is no doubt about it. You're making my head hurt.

    A) What does Apreshio mean?

    B) Why did you just say you don't understand what he said and then say the same thing...but say that you know what he said..? My head is seriously hurting.

  • @Safagan your a bit of a dick

  • @Safagan dude you're being retarded. He paid Ari a well deserved compliment. There's nothing else to it.

  • @Safagan are you seriously this dim?

  • @ocsoundwaves Cheeky!

  • Effin Sea. That's Mental.

  • @Safagan What a dumbass

  • excellent!!!
