  • very easy to follow and was happy with result :D

  • finally i found a good tutorial...that i can actually understand

  • you should do more photoshop effects!! Loved your detailed tutorial even a noobie like me can follow it so well!!

  • Nice video, really well explained - Thanks a lot.

  • I prefer a different route of photoshopping to get the effect, which I found out when I was just playing around and experimenting in photoshop, didnt get any info off other sites whatsoever, and I just found out this is how scott kelby believes dave hill does his photos:

Selectively dodge highlights and burn shadows in seperate layers, apply high pass filter and set to overlay, desaturate in adjustment layer, mask through sky so it stays blue. Unsharp mask.

Takes more time but it works a treat

  • thanx man!u really hepl me!+5!

  • TNX it help alot. ;)

  • Very nice job on this tutorial. thanks.

  • Nice job.

  • Nice tutorial thanks

  • thank you!! this is what a well explained tutorial is supposed to look like unlike the other fake tutorials on the internet.

  • You're a definite anal retentive over-explainer. That was so frustrating watching your video. Thanks for sharing, though.

  • Nothing at all like Dave Hill, but a decent tutorial about high contrast and sharpening.

  • Thanks for this!

  • Nice tutorial

It'd be easier to apply the blend mode to your duplicate layer first before applying a high pass filter so that you better know how much effect you want in your photo.

  • WOW! very nice and well explained :)

  • Well done tut — appropriately 101, while also presenting a relatively advanced tut. Particularly commendable is that you were articulate, focused, and smooth in your presentation.

  • great tutorial

  • That looks nothing like Dave Hill

  • @gloryboxmusic Neither do you!

  • @dima9944 That didn't make sense at all. hahaha LAME-O

  • ur awesome !

  • Great tutorial!!! Thanks.

  • Well, this wasn't exactly the davehill look I was looking for, but you definitely taught me some new things. You were also so polite in your tutorial.

  • yes, he is using windows as an photoshop artist-thumbs up-good choice

  • tnx dude!

  • Great tutorial!

  • Good work !

  • u make iyt look easy nice tutorial fo novice like me

  • i don't know who the hell dave hill is but imma look him up i like the effect in been tryin the shit but can't get i use HDR In Got Close To It But Imma See how This One Work

  • cooL!

  • In some video on the dave hill website you can actually see Dave is not the one doing post production on his own pictures. But it's true everything start from lighting...he mainly uses a light ring and that already helps in giving a different effect than regular flash

  • Awesome. Simple and easy =)

  • nice video man!

  • dude that is terrible... over exposed and sharpened with way to much aberration

  • I agree with Danmales and Aeromar27

This is apparently good enough for many people shooting a quick picture for their social network site with their camera phone.

If you want a less cheap looking shot and have a decent camera, have a look at the videos in my Playlist "Post"

(You can achieve this dramatic look with a combination of HDR, the right kind of shot, good back lighting and then Photomatix/Lucis art and/or Photoshop)

  • Yur totally fuckin right !!

  • Nice !!!!

  • Thanks!!!!

  • what is the best paint program for a beginner who can already draw pretty well?

  • I am no expert with this kind of stuff, but I would say Corel Painter or Corel Painter Essentials are good for what you are looking for . I got a copy of Corel Painter Essentials with my Wacom tablet and it seemed easy enough to use, and it's not too expensive.

    Hope this helps,

    Dogesrtx

  • THANKS MAN! nobody ever recomends anything, but im gona look it up

  • No problem. Glad I could help.

  • You should also add that if they want a lesser effect, you can also bring the opacity down on the final layer, bringing through more of the original image.

Also, you can dodge and burn certain areas for even more of a dave hill effect.

    Good job on the vid.

<<<<<< hes beginner on photoshop LOL

    sorry for not replayin' quikly

    anyway thanks

  • thanks bro

  • Yupp! Thanks for watching my video.

  • nice!

  • Thanks!

  • sorry dude, good try, but its far from the Dave Hill look.

i mean, he maybe uses some of this, but the secret has to be on time of taking the photograph.

  • The lighting is crucial to really pull off his effect. But no matter how much work that he puts into the lighting, the PS work is still immense.

Regardless of whether this is how Dave Hill really does this, the technique in the tutorial is still cool. Good stuff.

  • YOU ROCK !!!!!

  • Thanks!

  • great video. thanks man.

  • Thanks! and your welcome.

  • Thanks, Great tutor!!!

  • Thanks for your nice comment! I appreciate it a lot!
