This is the best violin video lesson I have seen. There are lot of people who can play the violin. But only very few can teach or communicate effectively to others and you are one among them. I appreciate your generosity in posting this lesson in the web and I would really like to thankyou for posting this video.
Hats off to you.... Superb explanation of all the basics... I loved the fine points that you've explained so clearly... I hope to see more and more videos from you on violin...

I reside in Hyderabad and my landline telephone number is 040-27054232 & Mobile No. 9908822992.. My ID is msakella2002 either on Yahoo Messenger or Skype. In general, I shall come online around 7 am or 8 pm daily to be accessible to the aspirants. I want to know the details and listen to your Violin-play. For this you can come online along with webcam and show me your Violin-play. Then only I can assess you and do something. amsharma
While the notes are shaken being in the same place in the western playing of Violin the notes in the Indian playing of Violin not only shake but also heavily oscillate along with other notes. Unless both ends of the instrument are firmly fixed Indian Violinist cannot play this kind of heavy oscillations. While the western music is played only on the notes the Indian music is played not only on the notes but also between the notes. That is the main difference. amsharma
@nameUnavailab1e i adopted this style, Lets call it the Carnatic grip :-)
an octave is an octave, india divided it in 22 steps, while the west uses 12 steps.
This is what Msakella i believe tries to tell, the tones/notes to be played in the Carnatic/Indian music are more diverse than can be notated in a 12 notes/tones system. The human neck alone cannot carry the heavily sliding glisando's that need to be played therefore the support. Rishi is Keeper of Culture, i thank you from Netherlands ;-)
Hello dear, Thank you for your kind appreceiation. I did not create any such VCD for sale. However, if you are so keen in having such a VCD with all the Varna-demos, I have to search for all the old video-files of them and bring out a DVD for your purpose. But, I feel it is more easier to you to download all these video-files from Youtube and burn a VCD on your own and have it. amsharma
@msakella Truly Sir u R a Keeper of Culture. I've seen some Carnatic violin clips but never noticed the tuner mod, is it your invention?, or common practise? i built a fiddle, hollowed out a beam of wood, rigged it up and strung it, a nice and quiet yet warm indoors violin it became.Ideal for travel to :-D needs a bit more shaving at the head.

What instrument was used before the western violin reached Carnatia?
Hello, dear! Thank you for your kind appreciation and I feel glad to know that my service to the cause of music is properly utilised by the aspirants like you. amsharma
This is an Amazing Video for Indian classical Violinists, I have learned various technique aspects from Guru Akella Mallikaarjuna Sharma and I feel he has brought about the most significant change in my hands, especially the "Left hand on the finger board" among all of my peers and teachers. When I watch him play, I understand what is the most elegant way to play Violin and play it "Softly and with feelings"

is your violin sa-pa-sa-pa?
avadhoot221266 1 year ago
@avadhoot221266 was noted spam:-/, i un-note that, my western eyes recognize avadhoot asks about the tuning in the indian note names.
c,d,e,f,g,a,b / sol la ti do re mi / sa - re - ga - ma are the same things by other names.
Similar to many other things on a global scale :-P.
the Q of avad = is the violin tuned C G c g? , Good question i'd say. Maybe the answer is in another vid, or maybe it is given ;-)
