Hey, Mike, do you think that I could use both systems at the same time? Like, could I set up two SB800s on my TT5s, set up my T5D-R with the PX receiver, and mount my SB900 on my TT1 and put the PX transmitter on top of the flash? Then use the PW system to control the manual output of the nikon flashes while using the RP system to fire the Q-flash in TTL mode? What do you think?
I really appreciate the review of these systems! I was torn between the two systems, but no more!
I was wondering if any tests were done to see if the range of the radio popper system is effected when the master flash is pointed up to bounce the light off of a ceiling. Wondering if the antenna being position horizontally effects performance.
I have Pocket Wizards and am a little frustrated. I can setup in my studio and test having everything work, then going on location only to have them totally fail. I hope to be able to try out the RadioPopper. Thanks for the review.
Thanks guys now I know after watching all 8 videos what the testing was for. Can I use the RP on my camera without having to buy another flash? Do they have one that just mounts on the hot shoe?
@matthias79 - Mike has personally worked with the RP staff. I don't know that he does it for pay. I think RP found a great photographer who would help them develop a fine product. Mike found a company that listened to photographers. As he stated, and is obvious, he is showing results. The evidence is pretty clear. If you shoot outside, and need some range, I think this test speaks for itself. Mike also invites you to test them for yourself. What did you see in his test that showed any bias?
The MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 trigger the flash at up to 1/8000 seconds. Is the RadioPopper capable of high speed sync, and what is the general maximum (I allow that it varies somewhat from a camera/flash to camera/flash)?
A comment by someone else (I think it was the 1st or 2nd video) is significant for the PW: The large metal lens and hood could be blocking the signal, when the receiver is near-center screen -- an uncommon situation. What's more, Radio Popper surely knows that, and would have advised TriCoast, if the goal was an objective comparison. Instead, they put a link to the video on their website, to promote their own sales.
Also, I notice that PW has other models, with tall transmitters & antenna.
Perfect analysis of the two systems. Thanks. Best part is around 5:03 in Part 5. Maybe I need to get a life, but I bust a gut laughing at the guys in the background. Love it!
this review is great, it is long but that's what you need to prove your tests. If you didnt spend the time showing people how you are testing.. they'll just accuse you of cheating.
I just wish you spent some time testing in real life situation instead of shooting directly at the flash and triggering units.
I watched all eight videos all the way through. Excellent information. I plan on subscribing in hopes you'll do more videos like this.
Reluctantly I will agree with everyone else who has commented about the length. You do need to edit down the information. But since you offered the information for free, I'm not complaining too much.
we need the high speed test with the alienbees and whitelighting in DAYLIGHT to prove that they work with the jrxs as said. Also I agree WAY TO LONG video!
Thank you. This was awesome. Very informative. No need to apologize, the evidence spoke for itself, those new RP mounts look slick. It was nice to hear about what the future might hold as well. I am interested to see how the Nikon PW system preforms compared to the Canon. Maybe a future test?

No mention made of the optional AC3 controller.
No mention of hypersync. This guy talks a lot, but know very little.

This YouTube Video Distance demo with PocketWizard Mini and Flex shows
very different (and favourable) results ........with a different camera.
Maybe you have a faulty PW system ?

I do like RP over pocket wizards but wouldn't you say this is would be a bias review since you work for RP?

Seriously, thanks for these videos, but they are WAY too long.

Agree, I just skipped straight to this part.

Good info just cut it all down to like 10 mins. 10 mins to find out that pocket wizard goes 35 feet.
