well your both correct and not, its pre muay thai, its the war art from which the sport of muay thai was derived. so in a sense it had no rules, it is a war art, anything goes, but its not muay thai without rules, thats like saying jujitsu is judo without rules, its incorrect, like saying your parents take after you, you take after your parents, not the other way, hope that helps

arnis is weapons, but the Thais have their weapons as well, look into Krabi Krabong and Mai Sok. But yes its the most effective when it comes to strikes and clinches
