I think much of the public were influenced by bad press over this album and it kinda stuck like a bad smell. Still, these are the elements of our 'consumer' system and fans get told what they should think of the latest fashions by mainly bias and 'propaganda'.I mean how did Hitler get normal people to follow and execute his ideals before they were snapped outta their trance!!!(?) Same with this album and HEVYONEZ97 is on right track. But label bosses coulda marketed it better as a counter attack
I saw Las Palabras De Amor. on a juke box this week, hadn't heard it for years. My favourite track.. every body said WHAT until they heard it. Could visualise the album cover but not the name of it. Thank you YouTube. Best album ever. Best band, sadly missed in all the dire stuff of today...... or maybe just showing my age!
my god..what have i been missing? THIS IS THE VERY FIRST TIME i hear any song besides under pressure from this album..but i love every song! specially back chat!
The fisrt time I listened to this album I said what happened to Queen in that period (I wasnt born Im 14) it really suck but then I listened to it a couple of times and I said what happened to me when I said that this album IS SO GREAT, if you like another one bites the dust you like this record
no matter how you look at it, "hot space" was a damn good lp when it came out...it just reflected what was sounding poular on the radio at the time...and plus, the label bosses wanted to capitalize on what the guys acheived with the r&b/funk sound of "another one bites the dust"....so yeah, there was a little pressure put on by the label heads...can't blame queen for trying...me, i bought my copy of this in the fall of '83 when i was in 6th grade, and yes, it's still sounds great!!
I'm sorry, but I FUCKING LOVE this album! The songs are FANTASTIC! Look at the list of songs FFS!
Back Chat, Dancer, Body Language, Calling All Girls, Put Out The Fire, Las Palabras de Amor, Cool Cat, and Under Pressure (which is a song I don't even like that much).
I can listen to these songs all day, UP is great just for the bass alone! I'd rather hear Back Chat than Under Pressure any day to be honest.
It's like Freddie said on the Live DVD: " People get so excited, it's just a bloody album. " Not being a hardcore Queen fan I thought this was a good record. Real fans are a picky bunch.
It's not so much that Queen fans didn't like Hot Space it was more that it was so different than what they were expecting. Having had a background with really only the success of Another One Bites the Dust to preclude Hot Space it came completely from left field and caught the predominantly 'Rock' oriented Queen fans by 'Dance' surprise.
i agree with most of the guys commented your medley. I love Hot Space, you just have to approach to that in a different way you're used to approach a Queen album! Live versions of Back chat and Stayin' power (let's say the Rock Mix) sounded awesome (i think they're on the Queen On Fire album)....5 stars of course!!!!
I was fifteen when this came out. Had been a Queen fan since I was five! Absolutely loved it! Different, daring and a perfect antidote to all the terrible music that was out in the mid eighties!!!
Hot Space is a good album but it could have been a fantasticaly briliant album if only Staying Power and Back Chat had been recorded as rock songs rather than in a dance/funk style. Queen played briliant live versions of those songs on the Live At The Bowl dvd.
This album will always be a classic in my heart. Think i was about 16 when it came out. I was faintly familiar with older Queen music, but the record store in my Detroit neighborhood didn't have much selection in rock music. Hot Space was the only thing on the shelf. Thus, my first real exposure to a Queen record in it's entirety was at a time of huge transition for them. Yeah, it was different. And that's why i LOVED it!
The album hurt Queen like the album "Adore" hurt the Smashing Pumpkins. Later Roger Taylor insisted to be the driving force on the Queen Album "The Works" that gave us "Radio ga Ga" etc.
I am not saying you are wrong - I am just saying I don't believe you. Hot Space was a different kind of project but I absolutely love this album. It gave Queen fans a chance to see them do something different and I am sure it says on the album that they haven't abandoned their normal style. As for "The Works" - I am not convinced that any Queen member could insist on anything and get away with it - This was truly a group with 4 equal members,
I have the album also on 8-track. I was a in my late teens at the time Hot Space came out and I am a Queen fan and have most of their albums on ion LP. Hot Space was a sales flop for Queen, I remember it well.
by the time this album came out queen was on its way out it

Got this album as a birthday gift for my mother. Couldn't believe she had actually forgotten it. She had the record, so I got the CD.

Ich finde Hot Space ist das schlechteste Album von Queen nach Flash Gordon
Freddie kling in Dancer wie Michael Jackson
Der beste Song aus den Album ist aber UNDER PRESSURE
