  • isnt that sorta, i dont know, cheating

  • Voice was engineered to fit on the 1st-4th fret of most standard guitar necks.

It can not be moved around the neck, but once studied you can see that moving it is not really necessary. Four frets gives you every chording possibility. I go into more detail on the faq of the voicecapo website. All the best!

  • Hey guys, pretty nice idea. Would it be a problem to just move to for example the 2. to 5. fret?

  • props. from creative dream to reality is a great way to live.

  • Does it hold the chord without any of the fretted notes slipping out from under the note depressing pieces when bending notes higher up on the neck?

  • @bozzojoe To a point. Very fast and hard strumming does not seem to affect the depressed notes, and slight bending is not an issue. Really strong bends close to the depressed note can cause it to slip out from under the pad.

    All the best!

    Sam

  • This is interesting enough, but it is a very ugly device...

  • The song at the end sounds like Slide

  • how much is this voice capo??

  • @wftsrwe $39.99 on the VoiceCapo website.

  • @VoiceCapo thanks

  • @Wellesradio

    Read my comment below

  • "Wellesradio"

When I said cheating, I meant some beginners out there might use the capo to form chords because their fingers are to soft.

  • I like the idea, but I find it a little unfair. It's like cheats for the guitar

  • @mikeb929man1

no more than any regular capo. It just hinders the use for a third arm, that's all. I'm pretty sure that in a few years time the most accomplished and advanced guitarists will be using devices like this, just like they've embraced and pushed the limits of the instrument using all of the latest technology and effects. If this is cheating for guitarists, then a Kindle is cheating for readers.

  • @wellesradio Though you are aright that its not cheating, your kindle analogy is horrible. Finding the right notes to play around a chord takes seconds for even the most novice guitarist. Everything richie havens does tends to sound the same and gets boring. Thats what happens when you rely on open chord tunings.

Don't get me wrong, this thing is a great idea though I would make a conscious effort to not overuse it. If it didn't look like an ugly cheap piece of plastic I'd buy one.

  • @Vlaxitov

"Everything richie havens does tends to sound the same and gets boring"???

And there ends that conversation. Damn. I'm going to have a hard time believing anything you say after that.

  • @wellesradio Yeah, much of it is the same tempo and like I said before, relies on open chord tuning. So he sits on a base tone, whatever the open chord tuning is, for way too long to hold my interest most of the time. I'm not saying that he sucks or anything. It just gets repetitive to me kind of like reggae. It isn't a matter of true or false rather than just my opinion. Apparently you really like havens and consider what I've said blasphemy, sorry. Take care.

  • @Vlaxitov

    haha. (not sarcastic)

No blasphemy committed. I respect your opinion. There's music I can never get into which many people I respect hail as amazing. Taste is what it is. I just think technical ability is about 1/8 of what makes music good. Believe me, my influences as a player run the gamut from Bert Jansch, Julian Bream, Chet Atkins, to Nick Drake and Marc Ribot. (I prefer down to earth music like jazz, folk/bluegrass and classical) But all in all, I think Havens is amazing.

  • @Vlaxitov

Also, I met Havens once and read his memoir and he did more to inspire me as a musician than all of the guys I try to emulate. It's just bare bones, that's all. It's naked playing.

  • @wellesradio Oh yeah, I'd never say he doesen't have mad skills. Ability being 1/8 is almost too much credit. My influences lately have been mostly chinese and vietnamese traditional music, the stringed stuff like dan tranh pipa, guzheng, and ruan music. I'm a mediocre guitar player. I also sing and prolifically write music. I've been taking my guitar playing more seriously and improving it lately. My fingers are sore these days, lol.

  • @ChadJHachey

take a chill pill, kid. It's just a capo.

  • @ChadJHachey I don't know what you're talking about, kid. I got one of these and it's amazing. Keep your opinions to yourself. Worth every dollar.

  • @ChadJHachey I am sorry you are not happy with Voice.

I designed Voice to fit as many guitars as possibly.

Voice fits roughly 90% of the acoustic and electric guitars out there.

There is a learning curve to Voice.

I provide ample information on the web site for measuring your guitar to see if Voice will fit, as well as videos and documentation on how to get started.

Voice is only $39, and I offer a 1 month any reason return policy.

I do not get many returns, most customers love Voice.

  • What's the last song that was played?

  • @Havockkk

At the outro I am just jamming in Open C voicing, playing a few partials above the open chord.

    No particular song.

    All the best!

  • Before the C Major section at the very end, what I think you're referring to is "Slide" by The Goo Goo Dolls.

  • this device is basically a third hand

  • hmm, i came here to tell you this is the stupidest thing i've ever seen, from the picture of the ad. but..... this.... is.......... actually pretty fuckin cool. good idea. i'd never use it, but it's a good idea.

  • Thank you for inventing this. I've been wishing for such a thing for years, and I think this will make life on my band a lot easier. I no longer have to worry about carrying both my guitar AND a lapsteel or endure the nightmare of retuning on stage.

  • i get it thats very nice

  • cool

  • I wouldn't recommend for beginners.

  • @Shua060606 I am a beginner though would it be too hard????

  • @amelia99b

It doesn't look like a difficult product to use, in fact it looks quite simplistic. But for a beginner I feel this product could be a distraction and can over complicate what is already a challenge. This could be a fun toy to use once you understand the fundamentals of scales and chords. Take my advice and learn the chords and how to read chord/tab charts.

  • @Shua060606 Ok thanks alot that really helped!

  • This doesnt teach your chords people, it just hold them in place so you can fool around with this that would otherwise not even be possible.

  • its a good thing for solo acts and acoustic players

  • Seems like an excuse for people to suck or not learn

  • Eeeeep! I want!!

  • This is a nice innovation and a great tool to use in increasing your creativity. It is simply a Capo which will allow you to easily access alternate tuning to experiment on your creativity.

People have said that using a calculator was cheating. Computer=cheating. Cars=cheating. TV=cheating Electric guitar=cheating Silly isn't it!

If we were to follow that logic then we would be living in caves a step up from the animals we hunted with our bare hands. Spear=cheating!

  • wow this seems great.

  • @VoiceCapo I wasn't trying to be mean, just pointing out the flaws I see in it, just from watching this video. In my mind, this is not worth $60.00 and I am entitled to that opinion. And no, it isn't revolutionary. You can tune your string to any pitch WITHOUT the help of this capo, I'm sorry.

  • I think this capo could very well replace the rythm guitar xD This is freaking amazing, now all i need to do is learn the scales >.<

  • lets say im going to play a chord that requires you to mute a certain string. when I play alot of times I'm muting the low E with my thumb while playing chords.

  • Music isn't about skill, it's about pleasure to the ear, you could invent a device where when you strum one string, a 15 minute solo comes, who cares?? it's making music and thats all that matters

  • @Holycrap27 who cares? that kills the emotion and the expression of playing with TALENT which is obviously something you dont have if you are just knocking around technology to replace real talent

  • @Pananda i'm just saying music is music, and it can't stop you if you like a song even if it requires little effort at all.

  • hey, i play guitar also and was wondering how much does it cost?

  • It's a cool concept, but for my playing, it's definitely pointless. I'm sure someone will get use out of it though.

  • This is cheating. What about all of us that had to learn it the regular way. First Gibson releases a guitar that tunes itself, and now we have a "chord machine" that people will definitely take advantage of.

  • Definitely Not. Voice is not meant to replace learning the guitar. Voice can not be used to play chord changes. Rather, Voice allows guitarists to experiment in Open Voicings and allows a guitarists to play over a formed chord without changing the underlying tuning of the guitar. Voice is also a great learning tool for beginner and intermediate guitarists looking to bridge the gap between chords and scales and learn harmony.

  • No, it won't be able to play chord progressions, but it does hold the chord, freeing up the hands to do other things. It lets one person do the work of two on a guitar. When we hear someone playing, we think they have mad skills... until we see them on stage. Now they aren't rocking out, and goin hard. They're just using a new do-hickey. And what if the electronic idea you mentioned is eventually modified to play progressions? All the guy would have to do is strum. Like an MPC for guitars.

  • I see where you are concerned, and I agree with you to a point. I am reminded of the documentary: "It might get Loud" (Which is phenomenal by the way) When The Edge is jamming a riff then says "This is what I'm actually playing" and clicks over to a clean channel and he's just alternating 2 chords on half notes... The effects processors and wah-wah pedal in this example are helping him create the sound he wants more than the technicality of his playing.

  • There are always going to be technological advances that make creating the status quo easier, however it is because of these technological advances that new creativity can be developed. Voice is still in it's infancy. I created Voice by myself, and am doing my best to bring it out into the world. Hopefully Voice will eventually get into the hands of creative artists and teachers that will help create a new style of guitar playing. The potential of Voice has not even begun to be tapped!

  • @taylorb92 what are you so worried about? its just innovation. do you think that steve vai or jimmy hendrix or any of the greats would have any problem with using something that helps you get more out of a guitar... don't think so my friend... i do not think so.

  • @ImmaculateSludge My issue is mostly with the people that could misuse it, or take the next idea in the wrong direction. It's pretty cool, but at the same time, it opens another door for cheaters.

  • @taylorb92 i guess i don't understand how you see this as cheating. is using a standard capo cheating? is tuning your guitar differently cheating? Do you think it's cheating to use glass or metal to get different sounds out of your guitar... or what about using a loop pedal or an effect pedal?

See I don't see any of that as cheating, If we were to call that cheating then we should also call out the people who use amplifiers... because come on... no on can play that loud on their own!

  • @ImmaculateSludge All I'm saying is that if/when someone comes up with an electric version that can change chords with the press of a button, a lot of people may not have to learn more than the name of the chord. THAT's where I see it as cheating. All you'd have to do then is press a button and strum. Yeah you'd have to know the shapes of the chords now, but I'm not so sure we can say that 5 years from now when someone takes this idea and runs with it.

  • @taylorb92 The Voice Capo was made to EXPAND creativity not cheat anyone out of it.

  • @taylorb92 Are you stupid? How is this cheating? You still need to learn the notes or shape?

  • @taylorb92 this is not cheating, do you know what a capo does? Well, this is basically the same but the capo in not a straight bar, it is just a chord you choose.

  • @skamaster48 When I posted my first comment, I was talking about the electric version he said he was working on. I was talking about an electric version that you didn't need to know the chord shape. Think about it. If he created an electric version that DID require the player to know the shape, some lazy mofo would create a version where, all you'd need to know was which button to press.

  • @taylorb92

and after you've programmed the one chord, then what? You'd still need to know how to play around it. That would hardly make it different than the Gibson robot (a great instrument btw) And if you programmed it to play 100 chords at the touch of a button you'd still have to learn a new way to really make music. Knowing the shape of a chord is about one tenth of what a good guitarist needs to know. It could be a new instrument to master. Ask Richie Havens how many chord shapes he uses.

  • @taylorb92

You kidding? I can only imagine the possibilities for professional guitar players and composers. No need to lug around various guitars with multiple tunings. And it's like playing with three arms. This is awesome.

  • I can't imagine this making tablatures easier

  • Pretty cool idea

  • how much does this cost

  • Voice is $49 from the VoiceCapo website.

  • one question... can you place this capo anywhere on the fret board. like maybe frets 5-8 and play above that? or is it strictly to those first 4???

  • Voice was designed to fit the first four frets only. Due to the varied nature of guitar necks and the engineering involved, this was the only way to create a product that can be used on as many guitars as possible at an affordable price.

With the first four frets, Voice is able to hold any possible chord in standard tuning, since guitars are tuned in perfect 4ths. For more info, check out the FAQ on the VoiceCapo web page.

    All the best!

  • nice

  • man this is got to be very very useful when learning how to solo on a specific key

  • Got the voice capo a couple months ago. Real fun device when in a jammin mood but you're alone. I love it

Just a question. Do you think there will ever be Voice Capo Tabs? Improving and making my own stuff is cool but It'd be nice to have tabs of songs to play.

For example if you'd tab the songs you played from about 2:55 until 4:05. Those sounded awesome and Id love to be able to play them all and I'm not good by ear.

That would really make it awesome.

  • Will this work with a 12-string?

  • @stevethepilot Unfortunately Voice will not work with a 12 string. For details why please see the FAQ on the VoiceCapo web page. All the best!

  • ingenious.

  • Fantastic innovation from an inventive man. I'll be buying one eventually.

  • the examlples you play are very... irish?

  • dude!!! totaly digin this!! totaly gona buy this.

  • brilliant.. ordering one now

  • do they make these for ukuleles?

  • Unfortunately no.

  • Oh geez. I'm gonna want to get one now!

  • Sick invention. I would love to own one just to toy with. But I'm sure its not cheap.

  • Voice is made in America, and it's simplistic look belies the complex engineering that went into creating it. I am a one man show, and am doing everything I can to bring the price down. Voice is currently $59, with a special March promotion of an extra $10 off with the code: 'extra'.

    All the best!

  • It is good for a drone or playing in one mode, but can you play through a chord sequence? Jazz anyone?

  • You have access to the 4th, 5th, and any other degree, but you will need to learn a couple new fingerings. There is an online chord app that shows some of these fingerings on the VoiceCapo website. They are pretty simple. You can play other degrees of the chord with the underlying tone, or you can bar and play any chord above the 4th fret since you have not changed the tuning.

  • @wanekeef If all the chords would be movable, I guess you could play through a chord progression.

  • @wanekeef If all the chords would be movable, I guess you could play through a chord progression.

  • wow, that is an awesome invention.

  • that's fucking sweet

  • i play slide in standard tuning and it sounds fine. you should played one of the other songs :p

  • will it work with a 12 string?

  • Unfortunately no due to the thickness difference between the double strings. More info on the FAQ of VoiceCapo website. All the best!

  • good question. that would be twice as sick and beautiful. I'm sure someone can figure it out.

  • This is cool and all, but my third arm makes this thing essentially obsolete....

unless of course I want the power of 4 arms....I'll take one!!!

  • Hahaha priceless

  • thats kickass, and i dont even play guitar

  • how are people not understanding what this thing does?

  • Wait not fully understanding what this device does. You play a chord and what does it do from then on?

  • Voice holds the chord down for you so that your hand is free to play on top of the chord. This creates a new style of playing called Open Voicing. I go into more depth on the FAQ page of the VoiceCapo website.

    All the best!

  • it makes it easy to switch to open tuning

  • can you put the voice capo on other frets rather than just the first four frets? For instance, could you play the "c " chord shape starting from the 5th fret a-string?

  • Voice is designed to fit on the first four frets of the guitar. As you know, guitar necks get wider and the frets get closer the further up the neck you go, so it is not possible to use Voice further up the neck.

    All the best!

  • I want one

  • how much do u think i could pick up one of theese for

  • Voice is available on the voicecapo website for $59

  • Comment removed

  • But lets say you are in a drop tuning, does the capo pick that up? or is it just a robot that doesnt know anything but pre made tones?

  • Voice doesn't generate any tones on it's own, it simply functions to hold down the strings for you. It's a purely mechanical device with no electronics.

So if you were to drop tuning, and use Voice, the tones generated would be a reflection of your dropped tuning.

Eg. You drop a half-step and then form a C Chord with Voice, your open strumming will sound a C flat, with an E flat in the outer strings.

    All the best!

  • cool

  • There are so many alternate tunings out there that you'd have to have a hundred guitars for each with different tunings. I can see the promise of something like this because it's a PITA having to change tunings all the time to play along to the music I like because it seems everyone out there has to use a different friggin tuning! Alt tunings are the best kept secret in the music world of guitar, it seems way too many guitarists are ignorant that there's more than just drop d and 440 lol.

  • idk. it seems like one of those things that would fun to mess with but i wouldnt learn using this. i feel like its a crutch. i mean that in the least negative way possible.

  • I agree. Its cool and would be fun to mess around with, but its bulky and such. I dont see a musician getting on stage with it. Still, pretty cool I suppose.

  • Comment removed

  • one of the coolest things to come out since the automatic bread slicer........5*'s

  • its almost like having a third hand! lol

  • Comment removed

  • i imagine this would be great for soloing practice for beginners, it'll help them know whether or not the notes they're playing are in the right key

  • Been playing guitar for 20 years and I'm also an industrial designer. I think this thing is pretty nifty and can imagine being lost for hours playing with it. The design itself is a little lackluster and dated looking. I can see your passion, good job.

  • OR..now stick with me here...you change the tuning of your guitar

  • Please see previous posts or the FAQ of the VoiceCapo web site for the differences and advantages of Open Voicing over Open Tuning.

  • For $60.00 this is a rip off. I can just imagine the plastic thing just scratching up my Taylor. You would think they would get a better guitarist to demonstrate it as well. He says a lot of big words that he doesn't back up with any playing. And I love how they tout this as for "creative" musicians. Give me a break, buy a decent tuner with open tunings built in and tune down, it takes 3 minutes and it will sound better and you will have some bigger frets down low to work with.

  • Also meant to mention this. They say it "revolutionizes" creative potential, but the way I see it, it is an alternate way to create open tunings besides tuning down. Revolutionize implies it radically changes somethings, but whether you slap this on or decide to tune down, you still get to an open tuning, so no change really happens.

  • I was at first tempted to delete your posting, since you don't seem to offer anything constructive or positive. However I decided to leave it and point out: 1) Voice is not a large company. I created, designed, manufactured and am now marketing and selling Voice as a Sole Proprietor. 2) Voice will not scratch your guitar. 3) You made all the comments you made above without actually even trying Voice. 4) Open Voicing is revolutionary. It is 'similar' to Open Tuning, but also very different.

  • I think that this is a great idea. Obviously not something for the most gung-ho guitarist, but a nice accessory to have when playing music that's tuned wackily. Your example of "Slide" is definitely one of the tunes I'd like to play without having to re-tune my guitar every time.

Don't let purists and critics get you down. This, if successfully marketed, will probably help out a lot of people.

  • It's also nice to see a guitarist invent something that he believe will be beneficial to others.

  • Neat, but not the "first multi fret capo" that would be the varichord capo invented by Martin Thorne & Martin Furey...

  • I had never heard of the Varichord until you posted this. Pretty interesting! Looks like it was available in the UK a few years back, but no longer available. Definitely a completely different approach. I would be interested to try one out and see how well it worked.

  • this looks freaking cool

  • There is a lot of debate going on here about Open Tuning and Open Voicing (using Voice). Which I think is great. One thing to remember, though, is that Voice is a creativity tool. It is not meant to replace learning guitar, nor is it meant to replace Open Tuning. Voice can even be used in conjunction with Open Tuning, which is a realm I haven't even begun to explore. Voice has only been available for a few months, and already I've received some fantastic feedback. Thank You Everybody.

  • This would be cool to have, but it's definitely a novelty... like the Ebow, it's cool, but has limited use and really isn't worth the cost, IMO.

  • Lol for the noobs!

If i need more notes I just use the other five fingers.

  • But on second thought, being able to change tuning mid song would be pretty slick.

  • what you could do for free is just tune you guitar into a c

  • @MrDERICBECKER

    Not as fast, idiot.

  • No it's not as fast. Although this is a pretty cool toy, it still doesn't have the full potential of re-tuning. This will just make people even more lazy and not bother to learn how to tune in full chords. People just love taking shortcuts. Fast and convenient leads to lazy and undisciplined. I'd rather learn some new skills than drop $100 for one of theses. Plus, retuning is a great time to joke and bullshit with your audience.

  • wow, so does that make you feel better about yourself?

  • Love That Takamine!!

  • dude im so going to buy this. it would help me out so much beings i have to record everything i come up with and play over the recording because i cant find anyone who can play it the way i do it. this would be more than perfect.

ahhhh the crazy things people come up with. and the crazy things people come up with that are very useful

  • I'm soooo buying this, and i know it'll sound good on my gear because it seems as if we have the same exact guitar, only difference is my jasmine is blue, but besides that, it could really hep me in song writing

  • Wow how lazy can we get? .. Can't anyone take the time to learn open tunings anymore? .. and to be honest once you learn open tunings.. you will realize and soon learn that this encumbers a ton..

  • have you ever played live and had multiple songs on the set with strange tunings, not profesional to tune on stage. this is cool

  • Yes actually I have. I usually rotate between three guitars and if one needs to be changed.. I'll have a friend switch off and tune for me while I'm playing.. I plan my gigs to the t, if you catch my drift.. however sometimes if it's a simple tuning like "drop d" I will use that dead space to engage and talk to my audience while I am tuning. That's usually planned however.

  • yeah very true good to talk with the sudience but make sure not to look like in idiot and ramble. but i mean if you only got 1-2 guitars i bet this is helpful. im a freelance bassist and i hate how some times i get paid to play with a house band and they tune thier guitar to like open Gmaj in the middle of a lengthy set, so i am mostly speeking from a bassists point of view lol

  • Ride on.. I'm a freelance guitarist, myself.. I am getting into recording for other artists now which is nice.. and the royalties are super if they turn and get radio play! I think I like studio work more then I do live performance but.. then again I like preforming .. so I don't know. Are there any videos of your bass work up?

  • unfortunatly not yet even though ive been tryin to remember to ask someone or bring a dang camera. but thats great that your getting studio work im tryin to get into it now... buisness is slow unfortunatly so i just got a blues band thats payin me and .......... a high school and middle school thats payin for me to play and teach thier bassists how to play their stuff but yeah where you from?

  • so im guessing the whole point of this went over your head???

    this is just alot faster

you can use this live and switch tuning in seconds

im pretty sure tunning it to a diffrent open tuning takes alot longer then 4 or 5 seconds

  • point not over my head.. You lose a ton of range with in those 4 frets being blocked off.. in tone and pitch.. granted you can do the same thing but 4 frets up.. you're not going to get the full intended range of an acoustic guitar..

  • ok

maybe you dont need the 4 fret range for what your trying to play

this is still better then highering a second guitarest

  • It's not a four fret range that I'm saying counts.. it's the tone and range and ability that's being taken away... Also dude.. some people freelance playing guitar for a living like I do.... So I say higher a second guitarist who knows what they're doing.. ;-) and learn a thing or two from them.

  • if your somone whos starting out like me somtimes you need as much money as you can get and dont want to waste money on a second guitarest when all hes gonna do is play a few chords

  • then don't cheat and sell yourself short and learn a cheap way of playing.. learn a full legit tuning and learn to the max! Expand your knowledge and not by using a simple tool to make it easy for yourself.. impress more people, but knowing your trade, and KNOWING IT WELL! ;-) cheers to you..

  • **by knowing** .. sorry not but knowing.

  • i already know how to play pretty well

ive been doing acoutic for 3 years and i do live shows alot..saying the normal payment for a show is 500$

id rather slipt it 3 ways(thats how much my band is) and buy a cheap thing like this compard to spliting it 4 ways with a second guitarest

but you can do whatever u want...i really dont care what other people say

all i care about is id uuse this live

  • Don't create a hype before a demand.. $500 bucks a gig!? Where are you playing? Do you have an agent?! Hey does your band have a music myspace or Youtube account?

  • @SuziBAcoustic

no im not making 500 a gig...that was just a example

i make a few hundred but not 500

  • what type of venues are you playing? to make at least a few hundred per gig? or is it all tips? ... are you over 21 do you play bars or what? I catch your drift you should have phrased it better.. does your band have a myspace music or whatever? I'm just curious.. to be making that amount of cash for playing shows. Do you anything besides just shredding?! Anything melodic posted besides just lead lines? I'm not trying to be an ass.. just trying to understand the music world and what sells

  • this thing is lame, if you're a real guitarist you'll just do an open tuning, but I guess experimenting with open tunings is too difficult for some people so they just use this thing to take the easy way out.

  • I just purchased mine!

  • i am sooooo buying this!!!! what chord is set at 3:26?

  • That's a really mellow sounding chord to strum, and great for some interesting finger picking.

It's an A flat major in the bottom 3 strings. (A flat, C, E flat)

There's a B flat on the G string which is the 2nd of the A flat Major scale.

an E flat on the b string which is a repeat of the 5th

and a G on the high e string which is the Major 7th of A flat.

So I think that makes an A flat Major Major 7th with an added 2nd...

  • are you able to slide it any higher on the neck?

since i have alot of aerpeggios thought of and if i could slide it up the neck it would really help so i could use my right hand to pluck instead of having to tap it and use my right and to hold the frets down

  • its actually a cool idea

  • hella stupid

  • how much would one of these things cost?

  • You can order them for $59 off the VoiceCapo website.

  • jeez i stress when i say i need this, lol

  • dude half the songs i write need this thing! i usually hae to tun my guitar to the chord of my likeing i need this!

  • pretty dumb. hendrix is rolling over in his grav

  • "There's no telling how many lives your spirit will go through, die and be reborn. Like my mind will go back in the days when I was a flying horse. Before I can remember anything, I can remember music and stars and planets. I could go to sleep and write 15 symphonies. I had very strange feelings that I was here for something and I was going to get a chance to be heard. ...

  • ... I got the guitar together 'cause that was all I had. I used to be really lonely.
