It's done within the confines of a Yamaha phase-modulation chip—still quite impressive, as everything's chip-based and done without sampling a la Sony SNES chip. The tune really lends itself to the spaced-out sound of these Yamaha chips. Great work on one of my favorite tunes, NARG!
Yes, it uses a similar FM chip, but that's it. There's no DAC for sampling. There's no PSG for square tones or noise. I'm sick and tired of seeing these put together as if they are one and the same when in fact they're not.
But yeah, I said it's "more like" for a reason. I'm not technically savvy enough to know all the components in this piece of music so I only made the simple distinction between Genesis/MD-styled music and 8-bit music for a fellow Youtuber.
I know you are passionate about this sort of thing (i.e. Sonic Retro, your channel here) so I understand your frustration...but you're kinda jumping the gun here. Relaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaax. =D
Don't you think you should do a VRC6 cover of MEGALEG?

Holy crap. I would think an 8-bit version of this would be impossible to make right, but you did it

@stevoisiak Actually, it's more like a Sega Genesis version of the song, but it's impressive nonetheless.
Great job!!

@DalekSam but as for a lay person, saying it's Genesis styled is close enough.
I do know about the differences between the chips but I don't find it's such a huge difference to be annoyed and sick.
now, when they compare stuff as PSG/SCC to NES 2A03 is just infuriating.

@DalekSam It's more authentic then midi replacing with the Ultimate MD soundfont, at best.

@DalekSam That pic always makes me crack up.
