I have listened to this twice already, and both times I came to the same conclusion: the bass player was EXACTLY where he needed to be. The bass part sounded like it belonged with this song.

I hate the sound of a bass player ahead of the beat, it makes all the solo instruments sound lazy or draggy. Nothing against Jerry or Bela, but that bass player has no feel.

The fiddle player I believe is Hoot Hester. He played a lot back then on Nashville Network and Nashville Now shows. Good player. It's definitely not Mark o'Connor.
