Cosell peeing in his pants after every Brown td. Cosell says nothing on Dallas drive. Hes a clown who said the Cowboys wouldn't have had the success if they played in the afc in the 70s? At that time they were 31-10 vs the afc teams over the years. What a clown. Later I heard he attended a Steelers function actually missing an NFL event.
Were the Browns the "Cardiac Kids" in 1979? I didn't think they got that nic' until that 1980s season. Not that it's a major thing, but that 1980 Browns team was fun...you'd see the score and they'd be losing 28-0 at halftime and then later on they had won 38-35 or something. They were something else.
I wish the NFL network and/or ESPN Classic would broadcast the old MNF games in their entirety starting from the 1st game (Jets & Browns). Most of us forgot who won and is still exciting to watch.
@franksfunfarm ... The NFL Network sucks. It blows blow blows...BLOWS. They did broadcast Americas Game, which was good, but mostly its just over-saturating of the current games. NFL-N doesn't give a shit about football history...when I contrast the NFL-N to the Major League Baseball-N, it's laughable. New football fans should learn the history of this great game, because I BELIEVE it was a much greater game at one time.
Remember watching this one as a kid in the seventies.... I have to say that the spectacle of MNF was due to the great, Howard Cosell..... He made you feel like the game was the center of the universe... Never be another.....
i was at this game this game, heck i was at all the games that year.....yeah, yeah, for real....i was a vendor......lol......man those were the good days....coach sam was the man...ozzie is the greatest.....boy that was some glory days for the browns...these days i do not follow sports anymore.....
I was a teenager when this game was played. I remember several articles written about Howard Cosell in which he said the Cowboys were the most overrated team on the decade and that they wouldn't even have been in the Super Bowl if they played in the AFC.
I can't never find these original Dallas blue jerseys anywhere on this planet why? Jerry Jones needs to have them made for Cowboy fans...these are the REAL throwback jerseys not the ones with the star on the sleeves. WAKE UP JERRY!....All this superstition about the blue jerseys & bad luck is all in the head. A team must win in both white & dark jerseys.......
pronkb000 is exactly right. That was Schramm's rationale for wearing white at home and the blue jersey jinx was real (losses at Cleve in late 60's,and Cards would wear white in mid 70's). In SB V, Dal was the designated home team, but the NFL ordered the home team to wear dark, so you had the weird deal that Dal and Colts both wore their road jerseys. In 2005 season, Pitt chose to wear white in SB cuz they won 3 road playoff games in white jerseys, but it was their choice
I always liked the blue jerseys the Cowboys wore in the 1970s. I can never understood why they never wear the blue unis at home back then and even today. (BTW i'm not a Cowboys fan!)
The Cowboys have never worn dark at home. Their original owner Tex Schramm wanted home fans to see the other team's colored jerseys, so he had the Cowboys always wear white. The blue shirts were considered "bad luck."
I take offense to that. This team has NO relation to the Baltimore Ravens or the current version of the Browns. Brian Sipe NEVER played for the Ravens
@InsideTheNFL1 That is correct. they are the equivalent of cousins to the Ravens and the current version of the Browns but definitely not the same team.
That shows a lot of class. The reason why a lot of Cleveland fans dislike Pittsburgh fans is they have the impression that all Pittsburgh fans are a-holes who don't understand that the Browns existed before 1999. Kudos to you for the kind words and hopefully some day the real rivalry between the Browns and Steelers will return!
I feel badly for Browns fans. I have lucked out being born and raised in Massachusetts. However, watching some of these Browns highlights, they more than deserve some great years. Great fans have always been behind them. Their time has come!!!
This was the first game I ever saw the Browns play thus the love affair began and Dallas is still my girl on the side:) thanks for this footage. Please post more of this team (75-83)
I did not know he was a place kicker there I just rememer him as punter for the saints who got famous for sending a punt so high in the superdome it hit the scoreboard
Obelisk2290, decided to look up Erxleben. He was the 11th player picked in the draft of 1979, very high for a kicker. After missing numerous field goals he was relieved of those duties...LOL. He made a 67 yd field goal at Texas and still owns the record with Steve Little of Arky. So you are basically correct, he was a punter for 10 years for the most part. He was awesome in college though.
Romo will just choke anyway. He is good at that. Congrats on beating a team that had 7 starters missing and the ones that did play had not played in 3 weeks. Wow! your so good. You should of won 65 to nothing. losers
I was in 7th grade when this game was played and remember watching it on Monday Night Football with my Dad...a great memory. Thanks for posting. Go Browns !!
Aren't the Cleveland Browns one of the few teams left in the NFL who haver never been to the Super Bowl? This game was probably their team highlight for the last 29 years.
Of the original 26 teams from the merger, only Cleveland and New Orleans have yet to get to a Super Bowl. In the expansion era, the Texans and Jags are the other teams. All other 28 teams have been to at least one Super Bowl

Screw America's team. What a B.S. title. America's team? Why? Who says? Nobody in Cleveland, that's for sure.
Great post. Cleveland had the misfortune of playing in the same division with the two best teams in the league from 1978 thru 1980, Pittsburgh & Houston. Would have made the playoffs in 78 & 79 if not for those two. The Bengals thru in a spoiler for them back then too. Started off 4-0 in 1979 and still did not make the playoffs. Dallas did not know what hit them on that night.
I was 4yrs old. Not old enough to see/remember so thanks for posting. Being a Browns fan living in Dallas I can't wait for the first game this year. Go Browns!
I was at this game when I was only 8 years old. I was a big Roger Staubach, Dallas Cowboy fan from Youngstown , Ohio. The only thing I remember from the game was my parents being pissed off in traffic going to the game and Drew Pearson throwing up right in front of me.
Yes, I remember that...Drew Pearson threw up orange gatorade on national tv. Just came gushing out. I thought I dreamed this up. Is this in the video here?
What fantastic footage. I was 8 and was allowed to stay up for the first half hour or so before I had to go to bed. I was fascinated by the fact that tbe Browns were playing on Monday night, they were at home on TV, and the Cowboys were wearing their blue jerseys (none of which I had ever seen before).
Amazing to see how times have changed. The heydey of MNF is long gone, and now you take for granted all games are on TV.
I remember this game as a Browns fan, could barely get through the school day waiting for this game. The old stadium, the great fans they can't take away those memories. Go Browns!
not a great night for my cowboys but 5 stars for putting this classic game on here man u must have had the very first vcr or beta machine lol props to u jtom COWBOYS 4 LIFE!!!
Cosell was constroversial. But the guy was awsome on MNF. The contrast between him and Meredith was so striking but it worked along with Gifford's low-key play-by-play. It made MNF an event. Michaels and Madden were very good also. But Tirico, Cornheiser, and Jaws-I Don't think so.
I wish I could see more of the 79 and 80 Browns. This video was great, I hope it stays posted. I love watching Sipe improvise that TD to Ozzie and the Thom Darden interception for another TD. Also it was cool to hear Cosell all these years later and realize that he and Meredith didn't really mesh too well. It's obvious now, I didn't pick that up when I was a kid watching...
Actually, I'm not so sure the Cowboys were much better. I'm a Steeler fan, and I remember two very hard-fought battles with the Browns that year (1979), while Dallas was not quite the same team it was in '77 or '78. Anyway, jtomrx, this is INCREDIBLE footage--you gotta post more! Thanks for this.
As he went running by the browns bench the players and coaches were laughing so hard that ozzie newsome fell on the ground. After the game a reporter asked "big daddy" why he didn't make a cut and avoid the tackle. He said he couldn't because he was going too fast.
As a browns fan I think it ended just in time. Ha Ha. I hope that the rest of the game will be posted soon. Thanks jtomrx for putting this video on. Great fun to watch. Has my alltime favorite brown clay mathews. It seemed like just about everytime clay intercepted a pass he would lateral to a teammate. He once lateralled to carl "big daddy" hairston a big defensive lineman who ran down the sidelines right in front of the browns bench for about 70 yards and almost scored a touchdown.
Browns 26 & Dallas 7, It was never really much of a game, except for Browns fans, LOL. Most of the Game (scoring) was played in the 1st-half (actually 1st qtr). The remainder of the game is basically exchanging Punts. This is all that I will probably Post of this game. Thanks & pleeeze "rate", J.
Hey! Cowboy fan here saying, hats off to the Browns in this one, but what happened at the end of the video! Looks like a TD for Dallas!? Please air Part 4, and not the Heidi Bowl. More football, please. Thanks dude.
Fuck they used to be good wtf

This was the game when Drew Pearson ran an end zone route, didn't catch

Hollywood Henderson's biography, Pearson had a weak stomach and
did this frequently in practise and games,

I was fascinated by the fact that tbe Browns were playing on Monday night, they were at home on TV, and the Cowboys were wearing their blue jerseys (none of which I had ever seen before).
Amazing to see how times have changed. The heydey of MNF is long gone, and now you take for granted all games are on TV.

That was a nice pick by Darden. This is such great footage. If you have more games like this please post them!

I wanted to see more football, so I sent you more football (video response above). More to come. Thanks. Browns fans are okay in my book.
