Shock-G from DU said this in that great "How.To.Rap." book:
"Don’t try to fit in—break all the rules, the fans and listeners will appreciate you more. Doowutchyalike, writewutchyalike, and be free! Think HUGE—don’t plan to add another leaf to the tree of hip-hop, instead start your own branch. Shit, plant your own tree, even. Everybody who does, and who means it, and who sticks to it, eventually wins."
Incredible book, every classic group gives insights inside it - true knowledge.
I had a so called friend who raps like wack ass drake and i told him that isnt true hip hop and and he got mad and told me not to post those things on his facebook because he is to cool and dont want me to ruin his rep? I told him "i see guys and girls dancing" and he asked me what it means? I told him DO-WHAT-CHYA-LIKE! So he deleted me! Boo hoo! Wah Wah! Anyways he told me to promote his wackness up on youtube "MrJulysOwn" But tell him what you really think? Last name Forever First name Wack!

The coolest shit of all time was how Shock G was Humpty at the same time and honestly nobody knew that until much later on. I remember when I found out, I think I was in college and it was like the first time you found out the Easter Bunny or Santa werent real. Sex Packets was the shit, but honestly they kind of fell off towards the end of their career. This album was ridiculous though. I love the piano solo towards the end where bust out "all my goodies are gone" by Parilament.
@MrKentuckyHeadhunter I remember that shit most of the country thought they were two different people. To be honest if it wasn't for the Humpty persona they wouldn't have been as popular as they were and still are to those who came up in the 90's.
Doowutchyalike movement next time i watch this video imma have my own video to it i will never try 2 remake this song jus highly motivated by it 2011-2012+
Damn......I remember watchin' this video on MTV, back in the day. Now MTV plays Justin Bieber and Wacka Flacka.........FML. I feel bad for the new school generation
@bay2bay84 Don't kid yourself, the 80's also had New Kids on the Block, Milli Vanilli and Fine Young Cannibals too. There was crap back then and there is crap now.
@bay2bay84 I'm sure the generation before us said the same thing about this song when we were bumping it in the club and the current generation will be singing the praises of Justin B and Wacka 20 years from now and putting down whoever is hot at that time. It's the sign of the times and it's always changing. LOL
@SubconsciousGatherer ..the creativity is still around. The corporatist agenda was to deconstruct Public Enemy, Poor Righteous Teachers. This kind of hip-hop is sort of kept around with groups like New Boyz - Jerkin, and underground types like Aesop Rock, Rob Sonic,. Gangsta rap was more an agenda around empowerment and self-determination that suddenly turned outlaw, then drug dealer induced. SubconsciousGatherer, how can we recapture hip-hop?
@SuperOmnicron "how can we recapture hip-hop?" I don't know that recapturing it needs to be the goal. Quality artists will always put out quality work. Mediocre second-rate artists will always exist too. It's up to the audience to decide. There will always be those with discerning tastes for something fantastic, as well as those that just want a good beat to nod their empty heads to. My only advice is to avoid the mainstream like a plague, and stay true to your instincts and heart.
@SubconsciousGatherer ..Great answer. I avoid the mainstream at all costs, as they have merged entertainment/gossip or in some hip-hop certain "beefs" were played up in previous years to spark interest.
@Sammy213 I'm almost positive the Piano Man is Money B but if you look real quick at 3:18 where the guys dance through with the party hats on, I think that's Pac in the front.
Who is that dude with the funny sunglasses at around 3.53 to 3.54 and what is his name? Wasn't he that guy that was always with MC Hammer cheering him on in a whole bunch of his songs?
While your at it interwebs; there are 2 or 3 songs that were on the cassette release that weren't on the CD version. If someone could track one down n post it would be awesome.
I think you can get them from shockg.com for a free download, they include Sound of the Underground, Hip Hop Doll, Gutfest '89 and I believe it was called a tribute to the early days.
This is sweet but someone please post the album version of this; it's about twice as long. "'cause if you got a weak bladder, or can't climb a ladder. What were sayin' is it really doesn't matter. I need a word that sounds like adda; slipped on a peel of banana, do what ya like."
This was my jam when it came out lol
