WOW! This is special! Where do you find these recordings ! Finally ,I have heard a C or t o t recording that meant something to me. This woman's authority and tenderness combined with the reading she gives are exceptional . I'd like to hear D a v i d o v i c h in this .she came to Los Angeles many years ago & i thought she was unique . I can't wait for G r i n b e r g in the g minor ballade!
truecrypt, definitely you are a true artist.but i have another question. have you heard eliasberg conducting shoshtakovitch 7th symphony, live i think from 1965?it is the best interpretation in my opinion!but until now i haven't found anything else with him conducting. do you know something to tell me?
No, I didn't hear that... The best live performance Shostakovich 7th I've ever heard was conducted by Mravinsky. You may try to search Google for "Karl Eliasberg discography" - quite a bit of info there.
She (Maria Grinberg) recorded the entire cycle of the Beethoven sonatas. I know that at least one is on YouTube (I own 15 of them but they're not in the public domain so I won't post them). Do yourself a favor and listen to as many of those as you can. Her cycle puts all of the others to shame.
What a shame it was that she couldn't travel - she was wonderful.

I always thought Bernstein's Shostakovich 7 was the best.

This is a great sound combined with rhythmical solidity and true poetry!
There is something in her sense for rhythm that reminds me, she shares the same inheritance than Horowitz (perhaps it's my imagination).
