  • The thrill and the hurting go hand in hand.

  • That smell reminds me....

  • Its criminal that this song was not voted by fans in the classic rock prog magazine this month top 25 Kate songs....No 1 in my books !

  • Ditto MrRIchielew!!! I want to meet Kate on the other side....and write music with her..

  • like a lot of her material, always brings a lump too my throat.such a fantastic talent.i hope i can hear kates music in my next life.

  • I Love you Still Mitch Hager always have always will...

  • This song is so tragically beautiful and one of Kate's best. Its so honest, raw and emotional and the feeling of resignation makes it seem all the sadder. The Trio Bulgarka just devastate you. The music is so layered and its really quite deep because there are lots of things going on here - loss, despair, yearning, resignation ....as it would be when you still love someone who may or may not have moved on. Heartbreaking. This and the DC version are perfect.

  • great artist and so unique, inspiration for such a carrier ! definitly fan

  • she wrote this song thinking about me

  • tori amos copied her? im sad

  • kate bush is amazing!!!!! love this song, and the directors cut version.

  • I walked in these shoes and the sentiments are so true, the thrill is worth the pain.

  • Somewhere from around the time of Hounds of Love onwards, Kate Bush used a new device and created these devastatingly beautiful soundscapes that seemed to tug the heart in to a new level with a bass guitar (example 2.29-2.30).Another example is Watching You Without Me or An Architect's Dream. These songs are not just the 'lifestyle' songs of some female singers that I could name. They are a direct telescopic view to what it is like to be that most precious of gifts to the world, a caring genius.

  • @Picnic ('... a new level with a bass guitar (example 2.29-2.30) ...')

Ever since she took complete creative control with The Dreaming she has always used fretless bass a lot, often played by Del Palmer, here played by jazz musician Eberhard Weber. He is also on Houdini from The Dreaming and Sunset from Aerial.

  • Heartbreaking song.

  • This is one of my favorite songs ever. It's beautifully painful.

  • What an astoundingly sophisticated artist. I'm in awe of how deftly she captured the profound, conflicting emotions here... and this isn't even one of the 'bigger' gems of her catalogue. Talent to burn.

  • What a fantastic composer, artist and person she is. The Bulgaria Women's Voices Choir is awful as usual. Always loved and still dancing this one. Just beautiful.

  • I actually prefer "Director's Cut" over this, it's too dense in arrangements. Trio Bulgarka is overused.

  • Listening to the new version & I prefer it to TSW version - love both, though really loving "Directors Cut". Hope is being enjoyed everywhere. :-)

  • @TheLionheart1012 I do like the new version of this song better. But many of the others fall flat, some of my favorite parts of Song of Solomon and Lilly are gone. The new This Womans Work" is interesting.

  • @serene23 Thanks for the comment...After a few weeks listening time...I'm taking DC as "live"versions of past trax and not really holding them up for comparison, IMO thats where many Kate fans have stumbled, by considering the trax and wishing a comparison to be made... ALL Kate trax are unique and special and I'll never faulter by not playing them...

  • One of my very favorite songs of hers <3 I LOVE ALL of her music. I am so happy to hear she is putting out a new album! I never thought she would. She even said in the article that she MIGHT would think about doing a tour again...I fainted! How am I going to get to England?!

  • One dislike rating, which is someone's right, but beyond my comprehension.

  • i cant sleep there are so many great songs . : )

  • @rainbowsalads are you a new Kate fan? I sooo remember discovering her music. What a magical time in my life!

  • @Maralyssa nope, not new , i just had a wildly long kate listening session. : )

  • this song is so sad and beautiful

  • @StewAnglais this song has so much meaning for me. I swear he was my soulmate but he did not feel the same way. He introduced me to Kate and it was such a lovely time in my life. Every time I hear this song I think of him <3

  • @Maralyssa I know those moments.

  • "Her songs are poems", indeed.

    She is the biggest inspiration!

  • @BonnBerlinerIII You bist eine Berliner (yes a real donut) and are the one who belongs in ein kindergarten, simple deutscher mann and who is this UKRod character? I admit I was ElberiverLardarse und Vogelsgang, sure, but not that old rolling stone fanatic, I do have some taste, Mandy!! lol

  • @BonnBerlinerIII Kate Bush, a lovely singer and composer, I agree. Yes, but surely she is just another 'freckled island monkey', a 'chav from a council estate', Bonn, as you have described all English women on other channels? Get it right, mate! Which way are you swinging now? LOL @ the German hypocrite!!

  • Her songs are poems.

And poems are not always easy to understand.

  • This touches me deeply as I have been in this sad dreamy situation, where he could never be mine. Still moves me, even though I'm now very happily married!

  • Reminds me of a dull Sunday aftrenoon walk in the countryside, in a stale period in my marriage before we had kids. I remember how all the scenery and smells were wonderful ,but how our relationship was not so. A beautiful song though, one of my favourites along with Womans work and Dream of sheep.

  • very sexy

  • my favorite song...

  • ctd,,, Field burning is used to clear land of existing crop residue and to kill weeds and weed seeds in preparation for the next crop. This 'destruction' is part of the creative process. So the scene poignantly emphasises her barrenness.

Her frustration, longing, love and anger make her feel that he is happy without her... A sad but beautiful song...

  • @ceeerrl Wow I wonder if that's right. I know she bases a lot of her songs on books. I just took it at face value. She looked back and saw that he was fine without her, so the kiss no longer fooled her.

Anyway, as you say, beautiful song.

  • I think this song deals with the pain of a woman's infertility, about her being unable to conceive the "life that might have been"; and this is very difficult for her and the relationship to handle... The "thrill and the hurting" of giving birth will never be hers... It can never be... And this reality clashes with the dream, making the relationship too difficult for either of them.

  • spot on

  • one of her best

  • I .LOOOOOOOOVE THIS SONG !

  • This is my Favourtie Kate bush song...

  • So beautiful, unrequited love and the acceptance of it without bitterness. Or trying to talk oneself out of heartache. It's all for the best. Scorched earth, can't go back.

Or maybe it's about farming, who knows

  • I want you as the dream,

    Not the reality.

    such a beautiful realistic line

  • god she's great. playfulness without irony - the perfect combination (obviously less playfulness in this song...)

  • She IS working on a new album - should be close to the end - can't say how I know - just trust me!!

  • I adore this woman.

  • I suppose she's always composing and recording, but as long suffering Kate fans we know that does not necessarily mean she is going to release an album any time soon.

  • Is she really busy with a new album!?

    That would be Great!

I hope it comes out soon ;)!

  • My favourite song of Kate's ! It just takes me back to my childhood, the burning fields of gorse in the evening sky, the someone I wanted to tell how I felt but knew I never could......

    Beautiful....

  • Exactly, all my friends havn't got a clue aboutr music, they like jay-z and all that crap, I can't name one song in the top 40 at the moment because I don't care about that crap, we might as well be living in a different world, yet i know more about music than anyone in my school, PINK FLOYD, KATE BUSH, LED ZEPPELIN, THE BEATLES, STEELY DAN, THE WHO, EARLY GENESIS, THE DOORS AND LYNYRYD SKYNYRD ETC are what you need.

  • Another place I'm hearing Kate from time to time is internet radio. Certain Soma FM channels play her from time to time.

And so they should as she has influenced so many.

  • One of favourite songs by Kate. Again, right on the mark - amazing lyrics.

  • A lovely song.

  • btw, KATE IS GREAT!

  • Why don't I hear more of this kind of music on the radio!?

    I mean, It's Great!

  • beautiful song...gives me goosebumps...kate is lovely...

  • I just can`t stop listen to this song. And I think she`s awesome artist...

  • kate is and always will be the best as far as im concerned..... with this and every song shes done and ever will do

  • and this is where i want to be this is what i need but i know this will never be mine.....so sad because most of us find somethin g that will never be ours

  • Genius Bas. Genius Choir. Genius Woman.

  • This song perfectly encapsulates a certain painful time in my life that actually happened 10 years before it came out.

  • The song is so freaking perfect. The vid too

  • what a sweet lovely woman that is

  • Exquisite.

  • "The Thrill & The Hurting" ooooooooh!!!!!!!!! LOVE

  • 'They're setting fire to the cornfields as you're taking me home'

Kate, who always sang about love as joy, starts singing about love as pain.

    Heartbreaking, but brilliant.

And how does anyone get that timbre in their voice?????

  • amaze.

is she doing an new album soon?

  • Yes, she is working on a new album now.

  • Where did you read that?

  • Del Palmer said on MySpace some time ago he was in the studio working with Kate. And that has to mean she is working on a new album.

  • Now,that would be really great news Symphonyofflowers.

  • Unless she was working with him on his new CD coming out called The Gift???

  • @Symphonyofflowers The last I heard - she was indeed working on an album. Signs are, she is getting close to completing it..don't ask how I know. Peace

  • @Symphonyofflowers This is the best thing I ever heard this month!!!

  • So beautiful. Her music is true art.

I can still remember the overwhelming feeling of awe when I heard her single on the radio for the first time. It was "Running Up That Hill."

    Thank you for posting!

  • Her Irish celtic roots shineing through here. As with many of her tracks.

  • 8,479 views of this masterpiece- pathetic- the world was never ready for her and doubt ever will be, too ahead of her time, this song was written like 20yrs ago and still they don't see, tell your friends she deserves better. Symphonyofflowers i like how you roll.

  • OMG! It is awesome to see someone on here who agrees with Kate being waaay ahead of her time! She truly was and it's sad because America has missed the boat! They will continue to until we open our minds! She is probably one of the greatest writers that has ever lived!

  • Couldn't agree more, a pure conduit between soul and sound she's 'across the bridge the burning bridge' THE greatest the one and only magical Kate a law unto herself!

  • I know I missed Kate on her last tour of the US.

  • Umm...Kate's never toured in the US nor has she toured since 1978.

  • @nydirk If she ever tours the US can I come with you to her concert and crash on your couch?

  • You're welcome! I'm glad that you like it.

  • 'Ooh the thrill and the hurting, the thrill and the hurting. I know that this will never be mine'.

The Sensual World is arguably Kate Bush's most consistently goosebump inspiring album.

  • I don't know. There has been some discussion at the Homeground forum about this. You could take a look at that.

  • how can I get to the homeground forum?

By the way, my fav KB song ever - just love this and the album so much!

  • Beautiful pix of a naturally beautiful woman and a truly magical song:)

  • This is where I want to be,

But I know that this will never be mine....

Absolutely love this song - it's beauty and sentiments have certainly helped me through some pretty bleak times in the past...

  • ..... the smell of burning fields will now mean you and here..... purely beautiful :((((

  • PS Great pic at the end!

  • there is not a bad pic of kate bush anywhere..... try to find one......

  • I would agree....did you know I was serious! The picture at the end was awesome!

  • Thank you! That picture is from the recording of the video for "The Sensual World".

  • This is definitely one of my favorite songs by Kate. I think we've all been in situations where we say "It will never be mine" and the thrill and the hurting is as real as anything.....

  • Yes. And the most hurting thing is always "looking back over my shoulder at you happy without me".

  • Amen!

  • Thank you. This is one of the most beautiful songs on "The Sesnual World" so I really wanted to do a video for this song.

  • Kate so tutta bella with so many masks:):):) loamo chin chin chente anni salute caio:):):)!!

  • I agree with you ppzav, stunningly beautiful album indeed. This song makes my heart long for some reason, even at 22 years old when I first heard it, it took me there. She is a singular artist, such an intensely unique woman..love her.

  • Thanks for posting this one - it's one of my favorites...

  • Superb video love it.

  • one of the most best songs she's ever written...the whole album was (is) stunningly beautiful

  • This is so beautiful, great song my friend!

    Fantastic pictures of Kate!

How you find so many photos, your amazing!!

    Well done!!

  • Thank you! Well, I search hard to find pictures. I check every Kate site I can find to see if they have any pictures I don't have. Sometimes I'm lucky and sometimes I'm not.
