We had one drill instructor that made all of us recruits clean the head with scrub brushes and hot water while he poured ammonia all over the floor ! that was the last we saw of him. I am glad and proud to always hold the title of being a U.S.Marine. The boot camp part in this movie is funny as heck !

Never been in the military so I have no idea as to exact rules/regulations, though at least back during the Vietnam era (Company C time/era) there were Corporals who were DI's, or more to the point helped drill the troops, might be quibbling on what they were called, maybe not DI's, but they did train troops back then.

First of all thank you for this clip. I went to Parris Island in 1981. That DI was loud and clear. That accent was nothing. His message overshadowed anything else. He was a Marine first and foremost. If you could upload the other scene later on in the movie when he picked up Fazio by the balls and threw him out of formation. That was classic because he introduces a parable from that incident.

Theres a part in the movie when the recruits receive their orders.Fazio got orders for sea-duty but the company clerk comes by with change of orders.0300,then Fazio asks "does that mean Viet -Nam"Sgt Loyce replies "God damn right that means Viet-Nam.0300 is basic infantry,0300 is the United States Marine Corps num-nuts,now get on the fucking bus".

No shit! in 82 there was a Sgt at recieving. Sgt Montoblan. We called him Sgt Mentalblock behind his back because he was freaking nuts! The DI in this movie reminds me of him..lol

It's a shame a lot of Full Metal Jacket lovers haven't even heard of this/seen this film! It's great.
The Boot Camp part of this film isn't quite as funny as Full Metal Jacket - although its more realistic - but the Vietnam part of this film is 100x better.
Gotta love R. Lee Ermey though.

I agree, the director actually found him in the phillipines fishing with his phillipino wife, getting drunk. Saw his tattoos, found out he was a vet and former DI, and asked to be an actor in the film, the rest is History!

Yep.....however his role as Sgt. Loyce in The Boys of Company C was a lot different than Sgt. Hartman in Full Metal Jacket.
As Loyce, he had some good one-liners but was more serious,less sarcastic and actually a fair,decent man.....but still strict.
As Hartman, he was funnier but a total bastard.
