Yes, you're absolutely right. Joey and Chandler have a sort of connection which Chandler doesn't have with Monica. First off, he doesn't fit with her, and second, the series lost some of its charm when he moved out - even though he only moved a few metres. I hate to say it, but J and C kinda slipped away from each other after that, just a bit. :(
