'Fevered and irrational'. A slightly misogynistic remark from Lord Gilmour there? Still quite an amusing observation. In many ways Thatcher was, and to some degree still is despite her age, a remarkable person in attitude and demenour. You have to give her the props for being tenacious in argument and with a messianic belief in herself that I envy. She necessary for a time, but I believe she would be better thought of if she hadn't won past 1985. At least by us southerners any road.
I think it odd that Ministers who despised her, chose to sit in her Cabinet in the 1st place. It's one thing to talk about about ideals etc, but totally another when it comes to perks and one's own self importance which Cabinet office brings.
the people who forced this wicked and detestable woman out of office , did the country a huge favour , i do admire her resolve in standing up to the ira - not giving in to them like that bastard major + blair - and for being her own person , but the poll tax was an abomination , which forced many of our poor into despair.
only a wicked - spiteful goverment + pm would launch such an awful tax on the population of the uk.
Undoubtedly our best PM since WSC. Her intelligence, her resolve, her indefatigability, her undying love for the British national interest was unsurpassed in modern politics. Look at what she achieved after the dire 1970s - economic strength, lower taxes, an end to strikes, victory against the argentine junta, the defeat of communism, and the EU rebate, to name just some. Shame on those traitors who stabbed her in the back.
I know there's much about Thatchers years IN power, but I know little about the general attitude towards the conservatives, or indeed Mrs Thatcher herself before she became Prime Minister.
Good work for getting these up. It's my grandad, Philip Tibenham, who did the narrative/voice over. He is not around anymore so its nice to hear his voice again.

@livvyxo Yes, he did a few things for the Beeb and ITV (Panorama, Horizon, etc) but its really difficult to get archives so it was lovely to hear this. He passed away when I was 18 but I can now get my son to hear him when he is older.
@mellowNdark I know many people of a minority background who supports Thatcher. My parents came to the UK from India during the 1970s, they both voted for Mrs Thatcher on EVERY SINGLE election. As for gays - Mrs Thatcher that voted for the decriminalisation of homosexuality and she was the one that defended their rights in the 1967 debate.
I'm an American so I care and we need a Mrs. Thatcher figure here (SARAH PALIN CLOSEST TO HER) in order to ge our nation together like she did for the UK as for Tony Blair Oh God what a joke that faggot was!
If Sarah Palin is truly your closest politician to Thatcher's will power, understanding and belief in freedom, I weep for the carcass that is your country. They cannot be thought of as alike in views, skill or stature.
ok i wont call u a socialist. but u r an idiot who makes statement without a shred of evidence! no wonder u dont like thatcher. she was in power because of idiots like u!
"Thatcherism" was not so great. Because of Thatcher's removal of the UK manufacturing base, we had the 1992 recession.
Thacther created the "Big Bang" in the city and turned bankers into the "masters of the Universe" that have caused THIS recession. Even now, as they have to turn to the Government to be bailed out, they treat any attempt to regulate them with threatening to leave London.
I;ve just watched the whole thing from a tape I made in 1991. Interestingly Andrew Marr's History of Modern Britain uses these episodes as a blueprint for his episode on the Great Lady

The strongest Prime Minister since Churchill. All politicians should try to be as strong as Thatcher

@englishfrenchgerman if churchill had a daughter it would have been our
iron lady of steel resolve with more balls than all of her damned backstabbing
cabinet combined

Even her own government couldn't stand her in the end, maybe the poll tax was the icing on the cake?

Thatcher to Palin. At least Thatcher knew Africa was a continent and perfected her knowledge before she spoke and discussed

It genuinely brings tear to my eye to think that will most likely NEVER have another British PM like Maggie Thatcher.
She had more drive and bigger balls than any other PM since Churchill
