  • Davian Clarke left it too late, he was absolutely flying home. Was always a very good relay runner.

  • The fact that they won this without Michael Johnson is ridiculous.

  • @hoyadestroya85 The fact that they won wih yet another drug cheat is worse.

  • Davian Clarke on anchor for Jamaica ran a great race ,k c , everyday Davian

  • The gold was originally won by the US team but they were retrospectively disqualified in 2009 after Antonio Pettigrew admitted to drug use.

  • @MrBlackguy28 Precisely. Cheating wanker Americans ruined 4 people's lifelong goals by doping. It is utterly disgusting how many American cheats ruin the lives of proper hard working athletes. Can you imagine training for 25 years and to be beaten by an inferior cheating cunt like Pettigrew? What a horrible thingh to happen.

  • If only the current Jamaican 400m men runners were as determine as the jamaicans in this video. Great race. The 400m runners today are lazy. Only hope they will get better soon.

  • Wow, three teams in 2:56!! That's competitive spirit!

  • Rest in Peace Pettigrew you will be missed. A great 400 meter runner and just overall wonderful person.

  • Wow, the Jamican finished strong to grab third.....what an exciting race.

  • Great race, well done to the Brits.

It's a shame that Pettigrew spoiled it for his team mates.

Tyree Washington ran a great leg.

  • I forgot how close this race was

  • Too bad the women's 4x400m is not posted:(

    Does anybody have this race?

  • R.I.P. Antonio Pettigrew

  • @jbrumundsmith my coach R.I.P

  • great leg by balch

  • 1:16 HAHA CUT OFF

  • great example of why you need a strong first leg, set up all three teams for the rest of the race

  • Aiight man why the hell is Michael Johnson commentating and not running in this relay?? He was faster than all of these guys at that time.

  • @EntrepreneurLoveJr I was thinking the same... first i was wondering why was he not in the list and then I thought: wait, is that his voice?!... I wasn't 100% sure until i saw your comment:)

  • @EntrepreneurLoveJr wasn't he injured or something?... still, good race anyway:)

  • @bububububak He would have had to have been because if he wasnt then in 1997 he would have been in this race no doubt. Was this around the same time he raced Donovan Bailey in that 150m?

  • @EntrepreneurLoveJr Yes, that's right, he raced DB in june 97 and this was in august... they later found out he had some fluid in his leg and it even became shorter or so...

  • @bububububak well that didnt stop him from breaking the world record in the 400m in 1999 nor did it stop him in 2000 winning another gold in the 400m so ill take that shorter leg haha

  • if an athlete is found to be cheating then they should have all their medals took from them and sponsorship money also. they would have no money or medals to show the grandchildren.

  • @idontsignin i agree with the medals but not with contract money, cause they are probably on a contract which means they get paid regardless, but i reckon they should keep appearance money as they are being paid that as an entertainer not an athlete as such

  • @mrcatohead but the money that they get is sort of tainted, they get that money on the basis that they are clean, alot of track and field organisers wont invite know drugs cheats to events

  • jrussell73: I have seeeeeeen that he is sooooo slow lol i know they were all on drugs

  • MORE DRUGS!!!!!!

  • Fucking cheating American cunts. It doesn't matter that the result got overturned 13 years later. The onlyt pleasure for a sportsman is that magic moment of victory. How many Americans (Gatlin, Lewis, Pettigrew, Butch Reynolds, White, Jones, Watts (both of them), mitchell, smith, hunter, etc etc have ruined people's dreams by being cheating pricks? And for years the US t&f authorities covered it up ala Carl Lewis. Utterly disgraceful. Thank fuck Bolt saved the sport the americans almost ruined.

  • Hey, I am an American and I have just as much disdain for them than anyone else. Actually I have more disdain for them because they are a national embarrassment.

Having said that, Americans still has deep and talented field of sprinters and I don't expect that will change anytime soon.

Americans ruined the sport? Bullshit. Don't know if you were born yesterday (sounds like you were) but the biggest cheating occurred during the Cold War.

  • I hear you greg but the difference is that now the athletes are individuals and yes under some influence by their coatch but not by a whole state or country. Sad thing that drugs are in the sport and sad for the athles that take them - some may die early.

  • @johnnyjohnboy1980 There is a more than just a small bit of jealousy and bitterness in your comments. Chill out.

  • BRITS have been given the gold for this race, Pettigrew admitted he cheated and now they changed the result

  • What a race, though!

  • Finally, i can say that my old training partner, Iwan, is a World Champion. Superb unassisted race. NO TO CHEATS!!

  • Thatz a proper race.

    Nuff Respect GB!!

    1

  • Gold too Britain :):)

  • Tyree washington went to my school!!! i met him. he is pretty cool.

  • u went to valley view hs

  • Pettigrew has been banned and Poland gets the medals :):) in WC and others !!!

  • given that pettigrew has been banned? will britain recieve gold medals for this race?

  • they must !

  • read in the latest edition of athletics weekly that GB have indeed been promoted to gold since Pettigrews addmission of cheating. Jerome Young has also been striped of his Paris individual gold and Washington promoted.

  • if i remeber correctly richardson was also juiced

  • Richardson was acquitted

  • where there's smoke

  • Yes!

  • What a great race that has now been ruined by Pettigrews drugs admission.

  • I met Tyree this weekend and all I can say is he is definately a person who carries himself well. Cool as can be. Glad to say I met him........

  • I feel sorry for the bastard below who called the US a "Nation of cunts."

That's some ignorant stuff right there.

Labeling an entire nation because you think one of their athletes took some drugs.

    Please.

  • you are correct. i am british and i totally agree with you, to those people i ask have you ever made a mistake, nobody is perfect and in all honesty i dont think they have ever done track and field athletics. people go into the sport for themselves nobody else

  • Just take your damn silver or bronze. You are a 2nd or 3rd rate country. Worse yet you are from a country that would celebrate coming 2nd place.

And if you believe that American athletes are the only ones who have ever taken banned substances then I am sure you are much dumber than I can imagine you look.

Drugs or none. You still can't beat the US relay teams unless there is a DQ.

    Pussy.

  • I know this is old mate, but in Athens I believe GBR sat atop that podium. Fair race. or was it.......

Gatlin was on drugs & he cocked up Coby Millers changeover. USA Team with a drug cheat in the squad couldn't beat GBR.

LONG LIVE GARDENER CAMPBELL DEVONISH & LEWIS-FRANCIS!

Again, sorry for dragging this up, as it is old!

  • Yes, it is old.

But you are right, there were a fair amount of cheats on that team and I offer no excuses for them.

Do I think they were the only cheats or that cheating is unique to the American only like I have heard so many people imply? Well I was not born yesterday so I know that the Americans are not the only cheaters.

I will assume that 2008 was a clean race on all side and the USA won again. We Americans do take the 4x400m seriously & we hope to win again in 2012.

  • So far no failed tests so hope it stands. It was a storming race & they deserved it.

Hopefully we'll have a stronger team out in London & we can have another race like this one.

  • well that might be possible. Great Britain will have the home track advantage. And I who knows if Jeremy Wariner or LaShawn Merritt will still be running at that time or if they will be runny as nearly as fast.

But of course there is always lots of young 400 Meter talent in the US for both men and women.

We will just have to wait and see and we won't get a good idea on it until the 2011 World Track and Field Championship.

  • @gregwi562 you cant have a home track advantage if you havnt run on that track before which is what will be the case

  • The US is not the only country with cheats but it has by far the most in the sprinting events. Look at the crime sheet, it's uttterly fucking disgusting. I remember Kellie white winning everything, getting disqualified then all the medals went to the next American....who also failed all the drugs test and so it went to the 3rd place athlete. Great way to ruin sport you twats.

  • @johnnyjohnboy1980 GIVE ME A DRUG ANYDAY!!!!

  • It was good call dragging this one up!

"Great Britain's 4x400m relay team from the 1997 World Championships have finally been awarded gold - 13 years after being beaten by a US team led by drug-cheat Antonio Pettigrew."

  • best 4x400m i have ever seen 5 out of 5

  • You should watch the 4x400m from world championships 1991, tokyo

  • Jamaica should be the last to speak.

Anyway, get ready to receive your silver medals.

    Second place is for losers.

  • GET OUTTA HERE USA WITH YO DOPED UP LEGS...pathetic

  • WOW half the USA team were blood dopers in this. Cheaters!!! Pettigrew and Young = DOPES!

  • Stop hating on the USA. We beat you before, and we will beat you in 2008.

I know it sucks to be 2nd or 3rd best. But that is what makes us the USA and you the rest of the world.

No get ready to accept your silver and bronze medals you underachievers.

  • we're no hating the US but the junkie cheats who are robbing athletes of their golds. It just so happens in this case the cheats are from the US. 1997 4*400 WC now = Great Britain.

  • I have no respect for Great Britain in that event. Most of the talent comes from Jamaica.

And the US will still beat you in Beijing in the 4x400 and barring some sort of dropped baton incident the same will hold true in the 4x100.

So maybe you might get a bronze medal. Maybe.

  • it's not hating the US. It's hating any nation that cheats it's way to glory and knowing that still has the bollox to celebrate it. That's what people are hating.

  • So for all the Britons and Jamaicans, etc...who have also taken banned substances over the years..you are willing to overlook that. The US Amateur Athletics Federation and other American authorities have brought about the confessions of those who have cheated in the past. I am sure if your country were as forthcoming they could also do the same. But I am sure they lack the integrity and fortitude to do the same thing and uncover your country's own cheaters.

  • But it still does not matter. The USA will still beat you in both relays in Beijing.

  • yes. They probably will .Team junkie normally does. Yes ,other countries have cheats but you won't find me coming on here rubbing other peoples faces in it because Linford Christie ruled the world for two years over the 100m. Fredericks and Cason should get his golds from 92 and 93 like the GB relay boys from this relay. pettigrew has addmitted cheating and therfore to celebrate this victory is now nothing more than a sham.

  • On another subject have you noticed how slow Shawn Crawford is now to 4 years ago now that he's not trained by Trevor Graham anymore...lol

  • Yeah, you know what you're talking about. Crawford ran a 19.79 back in 2004 and now he's slowed all the way down to 19.86. Jeez, what a scrub. Get a clue.

  • What did he do in the four years between??? Especially after his coach was caught up in Balco. He's not done any 9.8's since the olympics either. Sorry mud sticks and I don't have any faith in Crawfords career. His association with Graham destroyed that.

  • @jbrumundsmith Craword was Gatlins training partner and trained by Trevor Graham!! I'd take his achievements with a pinch of salt !!!!

  • to be honest have you ever cheated at something or if not you then 1 of your family. i am not condoning cheats but at the end of the day people that go into sports do it for themselves nobody else

  • cheating drug taking Americans on this occasion. Should have medals taken away as did the 4x100m british team when Chambers was found guilty. GB gold, Jamaica silver.

  • Is there ANY relay Medal the USA deserve to keep!??Every year another American drug cheat is busted and they are stripped of their relay medals.

Pettigrew has admitted to being doped here and years after...which means they will lose this gold, The 1999 WCH Gold, the 2000 Olympic gold (which included drug cheats Calvin and Alvin harrison, Pettigrew and druggie Jerome Young who ran in the heats! 4! Druggies, and Pettigrew ran in th 2001 wch team too. Cheats!

  • has anyone got the women's race? i'd love to see grit breuer's turbo boost!!

  • Now that was a great race. Watch out for Jeremy Wariner & co. this year!

  • Jamie Baulch did almost exactly the same thing he did in Atlanta.

  • Baulch's leg here in 97 was much better than 96. Although he lost the lead here down the home straight he actually made massive ground over the lap. He gave Mark Richardson half a chance. If Richardson hadn't ran the top bend in nearly lane 2 he may have had more of a chance.

  • I guess that's just his style. Do you know what his split was in this race? I wonder if he's still competing, although that's probably unlikely.

  • If memory serves me right it was 44.1 - 44.2. All 4 GB splits were fast as they set a GB and Euro record which I don't think a GB quartet will get close 2 for a very long time.

  • GB record was set in 96 olympics. 5 100ths of a second faster, and with the same 4 runners.

  • The damage was done by Pettigrew who ran 43.2 to Blacks 44.2. I also agree if Richardson had sat behind Washington then moved out in the straight he may have had a better chance. He must have put 3 or 4 yards on his race by running wide on the top bend. Certainly the most exciting 4*4 I can remember and nice to see 2 countries living with the states unlike these days.

  • Baulch ran 44.19 in 96 and 44.08 in 97.He made up 8 tenths on Jones on the 3rd leg.

  • GB gave the US a run 4 their money in 96 and 97 but we just don't have their strength in depth and once one of GB's 4 boys got injured or ill it was game over. Credit to Jamaica 4 getting up there too.
