youd be better off burning just burning pure-used cooking oil.... that would just create CO2, which is also a greenhouse gas... but isnt nearly as damaging as nitrogen oxides.
the problem I have with burning leaves is leaves are high in nitrogen... and burning them can lead to high levels of nitrogen oxides in the atmosphere...
You can burn anything in a multi-fuel stove, corn, olive pits, peach pits, cherry pits and even dog food as long as the moisture content is less than 14%.I am more interested in the pellet mill.I could really use one of those to save some money.
Hello. When you burn these leaves how often do you have to empty the ash bin. Also do you have any problems with the pellets and the smell? I mean if they sit around and start to decompose. After you make the pellets do you let them dry out before you put them in the stove. Thanks
Pellet stoves don't seem to have near as much flame or heat, as what I get with my 5100 Quadrafire ,and burning big logs. That might work ok heating a big room ,or a small house.
@nicenonya3 I bet this stove is big enough to heat over 2000 SF. The stove in the video has a pretty substantial flame and is putting out considerable heat.
I had a Breckwell pellet stove years ago and loved it, but moved and didn't take it with me. It had a large ash well at he bottom of it which I used to clean out once a week. It ran almost day and night except when it had to be cleaned out. Do you have a similar ash bin setup on your stove? Large capacity? Do the leaves have an odor much different than the wood pellets? Do the leaf pellets cause problems with any of the temperature sensors in the stove? And last.. does the glass fog up quicker?
Actually, since it is a forced air system there is very little radiant heat emitted from the sides, and top. In fact, one can place their hand on any of the surfaces. It will be very "warm" but not hot enough to make you pull your hand away :)

which is an extremely powerful greenhouse gas.

@lodcomm Did you modify the burn pot?

So how long would it take you to make a ton of leaf pellets?
drainey642 2 years ago
Hi,
Leaf material is very soft.. this 150mm mill at full speed can press out 300 lb /hr. So approximately 6 to 8 hours.

Cool, is it safe enough to pump stars?
ventsi 2 years ago
@ventsi I dont know it seems like it has alot of metal grindiners and such, but I dunno.

Hi Vents,
Unfortunately there is too much metal-to-metal contact to attempt to put a pyro composition into it!
