When I was a child I was taken to the first friend of my Dad's to get stereo and I had to sit in a cupboard in a corner to get the benefit of not "an orchestra actually playing in the sitting room" but to get the sound of a train coming out of a tunnel.
Brilliantly observed. Even in these cynical times the golden ears brigade are still conned into buying "directional" speaker cables and gold-plated mains plugs!

....and yes, people are still swayed by technical bull- i found optical leads with gold connectors in a high street store recently- I kid you not!!

Yes, a friend of mine once had "all the kit". "Topographic Oceans" still sounded a load of rubbish though!
