The absolute best part of high school was music! The band, the choir, special music groups, musicals. Truth be told, it's the only part of high school I've ever really missed. Where would we be without music?
its not that the stage version is better than the movie (which is true but thats besides the point), it's just that the movie in general is terrible. they cant sing and it's too corny. and technically, the movie is also bad. sorrry.
my high school is going to perform a chorus line and all of our plays have at LEAST a 3/4 of a full audience. I like both the movie and stage versions. They are both great and both have good actors and singers..
I saw this movie the night it opened in my town. Ever since I've seen stage productions whenever possible, and guess what? Bull, this movie was the hottest thing going. stage productions are great, but no one would know this play existed if not for this movie. How many Americans have access or interest in something as "artsy-fartsy" as musicals on stage. Be honest, and not quite as snobbish.
Wait... seriously? The musical "A Chorus Line" was running for almost ten years before the movie was made. It's the fourth-longest-running musical of all time. Saying that "no one would know (it) existed" without the movie is just ludicrous. It's constantly being performed in regional theatres and is still a pop culture phenomenon, referenced all the time. One thing that is generally agreed upon, however, is that the movie version pales in comparison to the stage version. THAT is definitely true
your attitude is exactly what I'm talking about. 99.9 % of Americans are lucky if they have seen a high school play. In our country the movie theater rules, not the stage. Lose the snobbish attitude that t he stage rules. It is where it's at, but unfortunately only for a limited audiance, regardless of what you would like to believe.!! There are many ways to apreciate art, not just the stage, or some fancy museum, etc. The movie industry has much to offer to those with open minds!!
Where are you getting your statistic re: 99.9% of Americans not seeing live theatre? You're simply wrong about that... live theatre is alive and well. I'm certainly appreciative of the cinema and the wonders of film. I'm just pointing out that in THIS particular case, considering THIS particular film versus the stage version, the film pales in comparison on many levels. The stage does indeed rule in this case. Maybe YOU should lose the defensive attitude regarding films.
This is getting tedious. I am not defending film, there is nothing to defend. No matter how well live theatre is doing, I still contend that the average individual in this country is not likely to have seen a stage production, other than perhaps a high school production, any time in their lifetime. Good theatre can be hard to find even in the best of venues. So, let's agree, Broadway rules.
But I still love the lushly produced movie!! I know--I'm a philistine, what can I say?
Actually, most schools go on a trip to New York in like...eighth grade and sometimes also in high school to New York to see a Broadway play. I'm sorry that you feel left out because every other school district in the world besides yours gets to go see live theatre (which I actually participate in by the way-and TRUST me, people come). Oh, and I live in West Virginia. Yea, with the hicks in the boondocks and WE'VE all seen live theatre. So I think perhaps your eyes have been shielded.
she actually played a role in 1980 west side story.. she was rosalia who is the girl that anita musically argues with in the "America" scene. She may have understudied anita though
why did you cut out the part went to church praying santa maria etc etc etc? I like that part :( anyway that girl is really good. She's the perfect Diana Morales. Even if I've never heard any other persong sing this song before but she's perfect :))

her voice is kinda annoying, like she squeaks sometimes, like when she says, "this man is NOTHING!" she squeaks on nothing...... it's kinda weird....
