@myfordranger-my ex-gf left me a cage & bird worth a small fortune & I am such an asshole I complain about it. Get in there grab that beak & kiss it, they bite less that way. Macaws are great but you gotta be an animal person they need Attn. & training! Find a bird person to try to find your bird a more suitable home sounds like neither of you are happy.
Did you polish this birdy's beak? How shiny black it is! LOVES IT...
@myfordranger-I am sorry but you NEVER keep a Macaw in a sealed room but right in the hub of the action. Mice come in for the food? Keep it in rubbermaid sealed containers & try sweeping under the cage a couple times a week. Get a fucking kitten, my bird has two cats with claws & they all adore one another...no mice. Get some live rodent bait traps. The bird needs attention sounds like your ignoring it. Yes they are messy but come on.
these birds are very loud! high mantenance!. i have a blue and gold that my ex girlfriend kind of left me so i keep it all these yrs. but now that im getting older i cant stand the noise! they just dont shut up. messy, mice come in the house for there food and my house is a nitemare sometimes when i start to clean. they dont like noise! unless your a true bird lover i wouldnt keep one unless the bird is far away in another closed seal proof room. take it from me my bird just doesnt shut up.;
yes i im soo sure i will i want mine to b just like lipton im so excited te baby i picked is so gental and sweet but its alot of money but hopefully we'll make it
are you ever afraid lipton will ever break your finger im getting a baby blue gold for christmas ive been waiting for one since i was 3 years old haha how much was lipton
Lipton was about 1,000 when we got him. They are alot like puppies in that they use their moouths (beaks) on everything including fingers, wrists, ears, so it is up to you to set the limits on what pressure is acceptable. He needs his beak like you need your fingers to do most of your tasks. I am able to put my hand in all 5 of our macaws beakswith no broken bones to this day! : ) YOU WILL LOVE BEING OWNED BY A MACAW!!!
love your baby and enjoy every minute my baby died and I can still cant get over it he passed away 3 years ago he could sing roll over say whatever spanish bad words called me mama i miss him Bless You and Your baby macaw wish you the best
My grandma used to have a macaw it was a nice bird. then my great grandma used to have one too that was foul mouthed and swore in different languages. all and all they are beautiful birds
wow Lipton's cute. I have five parakeets and two lovebirds. And I'm getting my scarlet macaw this week. This is really exciting. :) Heyy, how much do I have to spend monthly on her? Please let me know. :P
Welcome to the wonderful world of Macaws!!! I am so excited for you! If I were you I would budget for at least 150 a month. If you dont spend it then at least you will have some left over to put aside for emergency vet care etc. Post videos of your baby and let me know if you need any more advice! Good luck to your both!
Great bird! Our B&G is named Nakita and she's wonderful. Word to the wise, though, turn off or remove your ceiling fans if you value your bird(s). Trust me, it's a disaster waiting to happen.
They are expensive but that is just the tip of the iceberg. Cages cost as much as they do, and close to 600 a month in toys and food. Not to mention regular vet checks. So much like having a child it is scary! (Not the cage part LOL). If you are passionate enough about them, then it is well worth it!
I am sorry my post was not clear. I spend about 600 per month for the whole flock, not just Lipton (although I am sure he would love that!) I am guessing about 75/month per flock member when I make the toys and close to 150/month when I am buying all toys... As far as African Grey's I dont know much about them because I am allergic to their dust (along with the cockatoos and tiels). I can put you in touch with someone if you would like...
Thanks for the compliment. There are 7 members to our flock including 5 macaws and 2 eclectus. The fact that you are even worried about having enough experience leads me to believe your heart is in the right place. In my opinion having enough TIME, LOVE, and COMMITTMENT is more important than experience, especially if you can read and have a good support network of bird people who can help along the way! : ) .
I have been reading up on it. And it seems there is alot to know. Like even the fumes of non stick cookware can be fatal. Is that true? Wow!
It is a big commitment, I have heard that some macaw's have lived to be over 100 years old. African Grey's live to be 50. You have to respect the seriousness of a commitment like that.
Large Parrots are very fun pleasing pets, but they require A LOT of time and attention. Greys can live to be even older than 50, they are quite possibly one of most amazing parrots out there though. Yes, teflon in pots and pans will kill your birds. If you leave your windows open and have serious ventiation, it can be avoided, but is still a risk. It's better to buy stainless steel and not have to worry. Good luck.

Oh OK... How many do you have?
Your birds are beautiful.
I have owned nothing more than a parakeet, and I am wondering if i even have enough "bird experience" to even get a bigger bird.
