I would agree with you that Johan Cruijff has an air of arrogance, but in the case of Marco Van Basten I feel maybe you are misunderstanding his self-assured nature.Cruijff likes to have things his way and to tell those around him what to do, but Van Basten is not a puppet. He is confident enough to make his own mistakes and follow his own way. anyone would look up to and respect someone who had an early influence over one's life and development, but I feel that your assessment is overly harsh.
Marco van Basten is ZEN. I saw a picture of him during an international soccer match and he had his eyes closed like he was meditating. he is supercalm its unbelieveble and the press doesnt screw him. (strange for a coach of the national team)
Ok, so my Dutch is a bit rusty, but from what I could pick up, this was a very nice, casual type interview. Question, what was he saying about his eyes? I couldn't comprehend that part of the interview?.
The commentators were saying that in the photo his eyes are very different from one another and he jokingly replies it is because he has a split personality. In rooting out what he means by this Van Basten then says that one side shows a logical, rational sisde and the other expresses his emotional, feeling side. They then go on to say how his eyes have become a little bit more alike as he has aged. He replies by saying that it is because he has learned alot.
The psychological answer that Van Basten gave is nonsense. It showed he doesn't really get the brain-talent theories.
Futher, I think that the dept interviews of Wilfried de Jong are kind of fake. They don't reveal much more info that the avarege interviews do. Not much 'dept' therefore.
