The box set I got in the mail today from Amazon does not look like that on the inside, the discs are overlapping each other and have a different design. Also, I don't believe mine came with liner notes. =/
It comes with all the same episodes, though, I've been told.
While this was a nice collection (considering no reruns on GSN since 2000) a REAL Best of DVD set would be nice. That won't truly happen since Barker won't clear his appearances on episodes that feature Holly Hallstrom.
We are literally likely to get a REAL Best of DVD set over Barker's dead body.
The reason Episode #1 was not included was that a fur coat was the first 1-bid, and Bob wants no animal eps on air, or out of the vault ever again. You'd have to be an oldie (like myself) to appreciate the nostalgia of the early '70's. Games were debuted in the set, and weird rules that no longer apply ($100 to stay under $7 in Grocery Game, and the colorful wheel, and the original "Big Wheel" with no 5 or 15 green spaces). Fremantle did drop the ball on not showing more game debuts.
Im glad I am seeing the reviews because I picked this DVD box up at Best Buy yesterday and I pondered the $29.95 price if it was worth it. I wanted more late 80's early 90's with Rod. The box does say "The early days..." so that was a hint it wasn't what I expected. Glad I didn't buy it.
No disrespect was meant toward Rod Roddy... instead, it was Bob's wishes to leave out any and all of Holly Hallstrom. Even Dian Parkinson was featured on two episodes, and she's the one that alleged the sexual harrassment. I would say there is one "memorable" Barker episode on Disc 3: the first 60-minute show.
I have to agree. They seemed to leave alot of historic episodes out of this collection and focused too much on the end by including the entire last week of Bob's run (like nobody was taping or DVRing those anyway). I can see including the final episode with Bob. Naturally many historic episodes can't be included because they (GASP!) include furs on them. We need an entire set of the Bill Cullen episodes though.
How 'bout a set containing nothing but Bill Cullen episodes from the early '60s with all the original Lever Brothers commercials left intact? That'd be great!
I heard that they have plans to release volume 2 sometime in the fall of this year. it could just be a rumor, though. I haven't found anything on the web.
They got to. Late '70's set, an '80's set, and a '90's set. They can't go wrong, especially with the younger Price fans, and us old people who want to relive the past (Hurdles was the best game ever). There's a few plays of that game here on YouTube.
I completely agree. They need to release one with the hears 1972-1979 (Holly eps. included), a set with 1980-1989 (Holly eps. included), a set with 1990-1999 (Holly eps. included), and also a set with some 200's eps. (including ones with sub announcers like Randy West and Burton Richardson. I think that would be a wonderful idea.
I'd buy them! Too bad you'll never get eps which have animal-related prizes, yet what always got me was, if he was against animal cruelty, why they continued to give away leather products from Zinman(sp?) Furs? There's one instance where the DVD has an ep like that (First bonifide hour-long show, as normal format. It was also the ep which the "Big Wheel" made it's debut, and is still spun this very day, albeit the numbers looking like NASCAR fonts now).
The DVD should've had - the 25th Anniversary show - 4,000th, 5,000th and 6,000th episode - 30th anniversary season premiere episode - The infamous Yolanda episode - Vanna White Episode - Several pricing games premiere episodes such as Plinko, Penny Ante etc. - Rod Roddy's first Episode - More episodes with Double Showcase bids - Episodes with bloopers, mishaps and injuries - Bob Barker first gray hair episode. Those are the episodes I would've like to see.
I bought the DVD set to and was hopeing to see more from 1992-2002. NO ROD RODDY, that was a bummer. I do hope that the Price is Right is losing ratings and goes off so they can put the past shows on seasons for DVD.
I've heard and read some people saying that there will not be any episodes featuring one of my favorite "beauties" since childhood, whose name was Holly Hallstrom. I hope that's not true.

But....
I swear I saw at least one fur coat as a prize in other episodes, so I'm thinking that's a myth?
I could not agree with you more about the show selection. What really upsets me is I don't understand how you can call the DVD set the "Best of Price is Right" but you leave out the Rod Roddy era all together. I hope another DVD is on its way and gives Rod the credit he is due.

I picked it up new and still sealed for $8 at Half Price Books.

Where the hell is Holly?? I hope Mr Barker didnt have a hand in excluding her. If he did, its very small of him.
brettsomers 3 years ago
I don't think he would have excluded her out of spite, rather might have been a stipulation of the legal case she won against him.

You know, I just now realized that no episodes have Holly. If you hadn't of mentioned that, I would never have noticed at all!

I'm guessing Bob Barker is a real 'Holly Hallstrom-HATER!!! I think that's his problem!! He really hates Holly Hallstrom!

Price's ratings are falling. And CBS and Fremantle want to fix the problem.
