Ana's a nice person. It makes people feel nice to get nice people stuff. Yeah, there's attraction involved, but more than that, him getting her the shoes is his way of complimenting her.
Besides, if the shoes get shown on the show, then the viewer feels like he's interacted with the show. He's done something that influenced the programming in a positive manner.
But the guy in the mall was hoping against hope to get some play. She should have refunded the shoes and gave back the money.
