  • Fantastique!

  • Good... His voice fits so perfectly! This is just an unbelievably beautiful testimony to human fineness.

  • This is AMAZING! How could anyone dislike it?

  • sorry, only Neil Young can sing this.

  • I never would've thought Thom Yorke would sound good singing Neil Young...

    I was wrong.

  • i found this the other day by chance and i only just remeber saying that.

  • just happened to flip to the radio station caught the last min or so

of this tonight riding home - ha i was just trying to tune in the weather

it sounded like ny i mean the 'feel' of the voc but an octave too high

    who was this guy?

i had to listen to 2 more songs until the dj announced the songs played

the 'good night' to end it seals it

i got home to search on 'after the gold rush & tom'

only'd had gotten the singer's first name

what a gem t/y for the tube

  • Thom has got the feel of Neil Young, his voice suits Neil's songs so well. Listen to this and it's obvious it;s a labour of love.

  • jesus, i could have been fooled into thinking this was Uncle Neil himself. Excellent cover.

  • simply awesome...now only if Neil would cover Fake Plastic Trees !

  • wooooww!!! so beautiful =D!!!

  • Love the picture of Yorke with is collars popped like a balla.

  • Thom Yorke is way past cool.

  • Who loves 1:33 as much as i do? perfect imperfect

  • @madtoonage he sings off key, is that good?

  • @tulllguy for me? yes, yes it is. honest music

  • holy gods! i somehow have never heard one of my favorite modern artist playing a cover of one of my favortie classic artists best songs..... i am utterly speechless at the sheer beauty of Thoms delivery.... this is on repeat until i pass out

  • " and I felt like getting high" best line ever

  • Good as it gets...

  • Wow!

  • In an interview TomYork said that this cover was played on the very piano Neil Young wrote the song on. How cool is that?

  • @Alun53 He mentions that at the start of this video. Certainly does make it that much more special anyway

  • sweet melody...

  • so weet....

  • Love love love love!

  • To listen in the car:

    listentoyoutube.co m/download.p hp ? video=7fAz54YWw6I

  • Great cover

  • Great cover of a great song.

  • Thom Yorke actually transposed the song down two steps :). Perfect key though, sounds great. But it gives you and idea of Neil Young's ability to take those high notes.

  • very good cover not neil but very good

  • makes me appreciate each artist (Neil Young and Thom Yorke/Radiohead) more than I already had. Beautifully done cover.

  • Hella dignity.

  • 1:30 - random photo change

  • Hmm I saw a picture of Thom singing with Tenacious D, supposedly from a Bridge School Benefit. Can anyone tell me more about when that might have happened?

  • I don;'t normally get drunk but i am wasted tonight and this is fucking amazing most importand person that i'm not related to in the world to me forever and forever!

  • @Mcshitlove word!

  • Alla älskar Neil

  • reminds me of the in rainbows b sides

  • @alexgillespie1 actually now that you mention it, last flowers is pretty similar to this (at least singing style)

  • Sublime and mystical.

    Roy8554

  • Neil Young is damn super legit,

Thom Yorke is super fuckin' legit

  • He should just rerecord this whole album. I'd love it - Yorke and Young are both amazing. My mum, however, would think it was a travesty! PS is there a link to a download?

  • so...i'm seeing a lot of comments about "radiohead should have covered it more like radiohead"

    HONESTLY

radiohead isn't there! this is thom yorke, and him alone. he's probably the best contemporary musician, let him have his liberty.

  • Thom Yorke and Eddie Vedder are really the only two people who should ever bother covering Neil Young, both for different reasons.

  • wowza

  • i wish there was a video of this. along with his cover of "tell me why"

  • Wow, that was amazing. I generaly hate when somebody covers Neil (usualy it's crap), but this is really something

  • @koalajones88 although aware of the possible danger in deadly singing technique, it almosts give's this struggling down to earth quality , or not, whatever im just a wet towel.

  • Wonderfully beautiful

  • Comment removed

  • this makes me love thom yorke even more

  • soul to soul logic

  • yes............yes. cool. very cool.

  • I haven't got the slightest idea who Thom Yorke is, but he has done an absolutely beautiful version of this song.

  • @Rick4LB Thom Yorke is lead singer, and front man to Radiohead, he also has solo work with a supergroup consisting of Flea (bassist from Red Hot Chili Peppers), producer Nigel Godrich, Joey Waronker (Done things for R.E.M. Smashing Pumpkins, Beck, etc.), and Mario Refosco

  • @Rick4LB RADIOHEAD

  • WOW! Great cover!

  • cool magic

  • ive been a big radiohead fan for some time , and i just started listening to neil young, and i was looking for songs by him and i found this, its absolutely amazing.

  • This is the greatest thing I've ever heard. If you disagree with me you're a horrible person.

  • He nailed it. That was beautiful.

  • I am grateful to have watched this live. What a great weekend that was! Seems so long ago now.

  • Check out my cover of this song on my page-peace

  • Simply beautiful too, hell anyone who can sing Neil youngs songs, hats off to them♥

  • Neil Young is a visionary and I count myself among his followers. Hell, I grew up in the same city as he did (Winnipeg). Yes, they were different life experiences, but if you know what living on the Prairies is like then you'll understand what it means to be at the centre of everything, but in the middle of nowhere at the same time.

  • As a huge fan of Neil Young since the early 70s, all I have to say is.... Brilliant!

  • am seeing Thom at the big chill in august this summer. Cant wait, wud b nice if he plays this, but tbh anything he plays will be a high point in my life!!

  • love it, respect...

  • Awesome! I don't think anybody could cover it as well as Thom did, he has that certain quirkeyness in his voice much like Neil does which is especially noticible on this song.

  • this is really amazing

  • wow.. he's voice is perfect! Almost Young

  • i think they are both great and we should not try to compare them two. they are both light.

  • his voice is perfectly fragile and gentle enough for this to be one beautiful cover.

  • Thom Yorke and Neil Young have realy similar voices if you ask me :)

  • I am 56 y/o and have seen Neil do this many times in concert. Just like I have been lucky enough to see people like Jackson Browne, Springsteen, Dylan, SRV, Allmans, Zep, Mark Knopfler, Merle Haggard------the list goes on. I always look at it as a tribute when the "young" cover the "old" ------the spirit of the music lives on

  • Neil Young was sitting right behind him when he played this, and Young let him use the very piano that the song was written on. There's no rules playing covers and when the original artist gives you the blessing to play (Thom asked him that day if it was alright), you can play it however you wish.

  • my life is now totally complete

  • My favourite band covering my favourit artist

  • Did they actually change anything? It sounds exactly like the original, and that's not a good thing. Covers should sound different. Covers aso shouldn't be of classics like this because as much as I appreciate the homage, covers of classics always sounds cheap.

  • I actually find it irritating when people take to many liberties when playing someone elses song, i wouldn't be to thrilled about it, like an insult to my music, u don't think it was good enough so u have to change it, Thom Yorke definitely did it justice, very respectful.

  • I think that somebody wants to cover your song is compliment enough. When you cover a song, it's not to better it, it's to recreate it to honour the song because you love it. I mean, I don't dislike this cover because I love the original and this sounds just like it. I think it'd be a lot more interesting if they altered it a bit more to sound more like Radiohead.

  • Still a great song!

  • thom yorke's one of the few musicians who could have pulled this cover off so perfectly

  • @grasd2

I agree 100%. I've heard a few covers and they're terrible because of how they sing it, but Thom actually pulls it off.

  • @grasd2

    I bet Vedder could too.

No doubt this is a good cover too.

  • @MichaelBallack91 No, Vedder couldn't come close. Are you joking?

  • @Jinsai

are you joking? vedder's done so many covers, look up The Beatles Hide Your Love Away, any Bob Dylan song, The Who, the guy can do ANYTHING justice...think before you type, have you ever heard a vedder cover?

He's a hell of an artist dude, I like him better than Thom Yorke and Radiohead (though I like him too). He's going to be remembered as one of our time's most influential people. Not to the extent Dylan or Zeppelin is...maybe more of a The Who kind of popularity.

  • awesome

  • Thom love Neil Young- one musical genius pays homage to another -

love it- love it - love it-

  • Hate to say it man, but this is Neil Young, and as far as Rock N' Roll is concerned, he is "the Prophet." If you, or anyone else, can't except his music for its poetic genius, looking deeper into meaning then most, and just enjoying it for what it is, then that's just sad = [

  • an amazing find. thank you

  • haha awesome : )

  • @CtheWH Can't believe no-one has responded to this. What a silly comment. Great singer from a great band. If you think he's tone deaf, it's a certainty that it's you with the hearing problem.

  • honestly didnt think anyone could do ole shakey justice on this one,but hey, this is a cracking cover

  • I couldnt agree more,he did a nice job.

  • hav 2 say not bad, not bad at all. almost sounds like a very young neil young

  • It's an almost uncanny resemblance. Though it seems that Neil had a higher range (though it could be something Thom is doing on purpose[it's more pronounced in other covers he has done])

  • wow this is amazing. i never knew it existed

  • all in a dream all in a dream.

  • holy shit!

  • I like this cover. Two of the greatest voices of all time.

  • where can i get this audio!?

  • well, he doesnt look exactly 'crisp' hahaha

  • Well his voice is the right pitch for singing Neil Young (unfortunately not the case for most of us!)

  • anytime tom yorke covers any song he seem to do it justice......because his a genius!

  • Comment removed

  • mas gallos y desafinadas XD XD XD

pero creo q eso le da un toke mistico a la cancion (:

  • I'm not particularly a fan of Thom Yorke's but this is a good cover. I have heard a cover of this song that I liked better, by a local female singer, but this is both good and respectful, if anything for me it stays a little too close to the original.

  • Everything that you have said in this statement is wrong. EVERYTHING.

  • not terrible, not the best either.

  • thom yorke's pitch translates really well for neil young, two of my favorites ever

  • Thats a cover bro. Yorke spoke with Young the night before at his farm and mentioned doing the song the following night. If anything he´s nervous playing a song he adores and really didnt want to mess it up. Which he didnt. It´s brilliant

  • Agree that it´s really good but it also shows just how great Neil Young is cause it´s not even close to him.

  • i've never heard this song covered...holy crap this is good...almost as good as mr. young himself...and that's saying something. go thom!

  • new age neil

  • does not TOUCH neil young, but kudos to a good band for covering one of the best songs ever written...

  • I have a new appreciation for Niel Young.

  • My God, he's good. He sounds just like Young...

  • Gorgeous.

  • what if thom yorke and neil young made an album together. it would be taking the eraser and mixing together a neil album. bloddy brilliant

  • Holy shit. This has to be done. That would be the greatest thing I ever heard. Honestly, you're brilliant for thinking of this.

  • great vocal cover, but piano, not so much!

  • They've the same voice...

  • yeah, no better cover than this

  • brought a tear to my glass eye, it did :D

  • There probably couldn't be a better cover of this song.

  • Orgasmically good cover.

  • the sream at 1:59 is brilliant. its like it was planned.....we will never forget you neil diamond!! ( heavy sarcasm!)

  • hahaha!

  • glad someone is covering and doing mr young a justice. its not how it is sung... its the sentiment.

  • I love Thom Yorke !

  • awesome song just like thom ...:)

  • Perfect.

  • i love the both of you!!

  • Neil Young was present during this rendition, was he not?

  • Radiohead! Neil Young!

    Radiohead and Neil Young!!!

  • TOTALLY, MAN!

  • 100%

  • Great song...really puts an ethereal touch to the song hearing Thom Yorke's voice

  • wow , greatest songwriter of the past 20 years sings music from the greatest songwriter of the 70s..........ty i did know this exsisted

  • warcheften,

If you think Thom Yorke sounds like "a dying rat", and presuming you mean in comparison to Neil Young...you might want to contemplate why Neil Young invited him to the Bridge School Benefit.

I always find it amusing when an unmusical fan talks shit on a musician, when meanwhile the musician they're a fan of, completely disagrees with them.

Thom Yorke is one of if not thee most luminary artists in his generation of rock n roll. Neil Young knows that. Too bad you don't.

  • i totally agree. the trolls are getting so old on this website. this is a perfect cover to a beautiful song.

  • what a powerful song. what an amazing body of work. thanx for this. nihilisticly shakey

  • this song just slows everything down don't it?

  • artie snorts heroin

  • how does one snort heroin?

  • artie buys it in delaware and snorts it with a straw or rolled up 100 dollar bill. usually a straw, though

  • crush it up and snort it. To inject it they cook it down to a liquid, it always comes as powder.

  • Neil Young & Radiohead..It's like dream....

  • wow, this is brilliant.

couldn't ask for a better tribute.

  • bottom line. You can fuck off.

  • this makes me cry.

fucking amazing. Neil Young is one of my favourite artists, and I love Radiohead to death.

  • love neil, love thom more, only he should be aloud to cover shit like this!!!!!

  • totally agree!

  • Christ will all of you snobs get over yourselves. Obviously Neil Young is a legend but there is nothing wrong with noting the immense talent of Thom Yorke. I understand music preference is purely subjective but Radiohead deserve respect and that is not at all a knock on Neil Young's talent but is simply a recognition of Thom Yorke's genius. There is plenty of room in this world for talent, just relax and try to appreciate all of it.

  • lol. exactly.

  • It is clear a great tribute, and the crowd understand it like that when cheering after the getting high line.

  • ...Neil Young Forever..

  • Everyone stop player hating. This is just a touching tribute to Neil Young from a man who is almost as talented.
