So, I've got a D7000 with MB-d11, 70-200, 50 1.4, 35 1.8, sb600. Soon to get a 24-70 or wide angle zoom. Is the retrospective 30 a good choice for this equipment? or is it gonna be too big?
Hey Jared, I have a retrospective 20, and I was wondering if it was viable to store my camera with the lens hood attached on the 24-70 in the normal orientation, facing down (with the camera attached). I was pretty indecisive on this because I'm worried about wearing the focus mechanism if i put all the weight on the moving part of the lens (when the hood is reversed), versus all of the weight on the hood instead. What's your take? You use a D3s, which is way heavier than my D7000 + grip. Thanks
i just got my ThinkTank Retrospective 30 in pinestone and dam its so good!!!! done the good'old froknows sniff test and the verdict is a sexy smell haha
"It slid into here very well" and "It was very difficult to get the lens in and out" - it seems Jared's using sexual references to appeal to a wider audience :) LOL!
@Scottdude21 imho both of the bags are great for different use. the glass taxi is great for travelling or trekking, where you have to carry your equipment a long time and move a lot, so the backpack doesn't get in the way. for shootings i.e. weddings and stuff like that it is easier to work out of a shoulderbag because you reach your equipment better without putting the bag down and have faster access to it. like jared uses to say: there isn't the one bag to rule them all ;)
@arabinow great question, if I will be changing lenses and switching to other lenses in the hebrew trinity i will leave it in the camera. If I will be using only the 70-200 i will put it in the collar. The reason for this is i dont want to unhook in order to switch lenses. I do have extra fastnr's which i can keep on the 70-200 and the body but i prefer keeping on the body only when shooting. Il switch to the mount if i am walking with the lens or letting it hang there.
hey Jared my mom got me a d5000 kit 18-55 (for xmas which she hid terribly) but i cant pick whether to get a 70-200 or a fish eye which would you say to get first and i am getting a 50mm prime from my uncle
How is the bottom material, would you put the bag down in sand, grass, wet pavement? Does the rain cover wrap around the bottom as well or just from the top
@thelstdragn It will weigh your shoulder down with what I have in it. I love shooting out of this bag but after 6 hours of walking and carrying it will get a little annoying.
Excellent review Jared! I love your stuff. I hate reviews that just give you the specs that you can read off a website. I want to know how it works in real situations. Excellent Man. Thanks a bunch! I've learned lots from you and truly appreciate it.
Jared, I love your vids! Anyways love the reviews. Besides the bag, I too hope to one day own those must have 3 lenses. But for now, I'm gonna have to stick with what I can afford - DX Lenses. Keep those videos coming please.
Jared, you sir have a screw loose, but I like that about you. Great review. I plan on going to pick-up an R-20 or R-30 today. Just for comparison sake.... what bag have you been using for the last 13 years? I have been working out of a Domke F-2 since the late 80's and this is the first bag that I see could replace it.
@quint57 I have been using the tamrac pro 612, the original one that was made in the USA. Nice bag to work out of but nice to have another option that is easier to take on the road as it breaks down to fit into my luggage.

Jared when you use your Rs-7 Strap and the 70-200 together do you mount the strap to the tripod collar or do you just mount it to your camera?

@bngphotos I have put it in sand on the beach its still soft but its material than padding than equipment so i think its fine.

How comfortable is this bag? How long can you carry it on you (moderate/fully loaded) before it starts to hurt?
