Wonderful! I was there in Nov. 2010, and this was fantastic to see the subtle changes that have taken place in the last 80 years. From my understanding the temples were built in the Hindu faith, but transitioned easily to Buddhist with the change of thought of the people of the region. I was so spiritually moved during my time there, and still wear some of the "blessings" that were tied on my wrist by the elders that prayed over me (the ones that haven't fallen of yet:) Cant wait to come back.

The fact is that Mouhot himself mentions in his journals that his contemporary, Father Bouillevaux, had reported that he and other western explorers and missionaries had already visited Angkor Wat and the other Khmer temples at least five years before Mouhot decided to visit the sites himself.

Khmer Kings built Khmer temples dedicated to Hindu or Buddha depending on the Khmer Kings believes. Buddhism came to Khmer people before Hinduism and the war between the Khmer Funan and the Khmer Chenla because of Buddhism and Hinduism.

What an excellent video! Although, we now know a little more about the temples. The faces of Bayon aren't Siva, they are now thought to be the face of King Jayavarman VII under whose reign it was built. The faces are also supposed to reflect compassionate aspect of the Buddha - a pretty good way to align yourself with good karma if you're a ruler I say.

bayon was made during the reign of jayarman VII, and is regarded as the turning point of khmer art from hindu to buddhist, many hindu elements carried over.the dispute about the bayon faces is more so about deciding between the boddhisattva lokeshvara, buddha, and jayarvarman himself....many believe its the combination of all those aspects
