Oh, to have been one of those lucky people to have heard this miracle live, in the theater, in all of her great roles. This is the greatest singing.

One of Ponselle's great recordings! The tone is rich, rock-solid, and well modulated, the legato pure, the incidental ornamentation skillfully executed, the singing warm, sensitive, and expressive. She is a dramatic soprano who, in Italian opera, has never been surpassed, if equaled. Thanks for sharing, Tim.

I always tried to find a Columbia disc of Ponselle, but so far I never made it except her recording with her sister Carmilla, singing 'Comin' Through the Rye'. Many thanks for posting this - good sound for Acoustic Columbia, too!
