Well, the virtual boy had a Plumbish mario game though it was mostly a Mario Bros remake using the 3d gimic and throwing shells.

Then again in the Gameboy advance game Super Mario Bros Superstar Saga there is a segement where Mario and Luigi have to fix pipes and shit, while fighting classic Mario Bros enemies like they were Cloud Strife. But awesome :D lol jk

Actually the blocks refered in that part (2:55 3:20) are actualy the "?" blocks, the ones that gave you coins of power ups, not the one you can break; and apart of block the habitant of Mushroom kingdome were transformed in weeds, and other odd objects, and that is the reason why the clouds and the hills have eyes, at least in the first game, I suppose that part was omitted in subsequent games but the eyes were keep for humor.
