Doctors and nurses are in high demand in America so prices are higher for their skills. Someone who has no special skill is not in high demand and if the market is saturated with excess labor pay rates will be lower. But if you increase the minimum wage to a price small or big business can't afford to pay, jobs will vanish and you will have high unemployment.

Just because someone thinks they deserve a higher wages doesn't make it practicable.

Raising the minimum wage is bad for small business because most small businesses are running off of payrole to payrole and when they are forced to pay more they will have to make the diference by ether leting go of there workers and cutting back hours of others or rasing the price of there products and or service.

How can you accept service from all these workers knowing they get paid so little. Doctors, nurses are valued in hospitals but let me tell you.... nobody gets well in a hospital if somebody isnot maintaing hospital hygeine. Enery time you use a public washroom, or stay in a hotel, somebody cleaned the toilets. Imagine using places that were not cleaned. So..... WHATS IT WORTH to you????

Any economist knows that minimum wage doesn't help anybody and it doesn't matter how high it goes. Raising minimum wage simply contributes inflation, soring prices and elimination of jobs .

A raise in minimum wage seems like a means of bettering the living conditions of lower-class workers but that's not the case. The raise would lead firms to hiring less workers because the marginal cost of hiring an additional worker would be greater than its marginal benefit. This would lead to less job availability, more layoffs, and increased unemployment. Sure, there will be some individuals better off but in general, a raise in minimum wage would lead to a worse off lower class.

I'm not really sure what this video is trying to accomplish. Parading minimum wage workers stating that they would love to earn more money...DUH! Who wouldn't? An employer shouldn't be forced to pay you more to mop floors because you can't feed your family. Live within your means and get a better job!

Minimum Wage law is a criminal low. It creates poverty and unemployment for the employees. Of course,if wages will be 15$ or higher is wonderfull, but this must be the result of supply and demand, otherwise will create gap between incomes. Minimum Wage law create artificial poverty and artificial high wages!

sure, it sounds great to say that it's soooooo easy to raise the minimum wage to $10. But asking for a minimum wage is really just like Russian Roulette. some people might get a bit more money, but others will lose their jobs altogether. Is that really the best for low-wage earners?

I guess no one actually notices that when the minimum wage goes up, the cost of everything else goes up as well. Isn't it obvious that employers are not going to pay any extra out of their pocket? Get an school loan, get an education, get a better job. If one isn't available where you are, move and get budget in place. We, including myself, try to live above our means.

from a humanistic point of view, if you try your best to look for a job and you can't find it then you can go on welfare. it's more humiliating to work 40 hours a week and still be in poverty than to be on welfare! people need a living wage if they are going to work! otherwise it's soft-slavery! minimum wage should be adjusted with the cost of living and a 40 hour work week! that's the humanistic point of view!

if this is in response to my comment, this only matters to those that support the NDP and support a $10 minimum wage. it doesn't matter to everyone that supports the $10 minimum wage.

Tommy Douglas wanted health coverage for everyone in Canada and he brought it to Saskatchewaners first. he wasn't a hypocrite, he was a hero. what about the NDPer's of today? what are they?
