  • Anyone notice this is the same music that plays in the background of seal, my vision?

  • Did the soundtrack win any Oscar?

  • i have never been loved i am still a virgin but right now i feel gods love

  • @infinitelimitation remember one thing - chance favours the prepared mind

  • im listening to this in one ear by the window

its 5 o clock in the morning so quiet i can see the sun in the distance slowly rising and the birds are singing

  • I saw an automobile once when I was a kid, but now they're everywhere.

  • I learned this song on piano. It literally gives me chills every time I finish playing, moving piece

  • I just sobbed like a child.

  • Singer Seal used this same piano tune for his song "My Vision", although his version is faster and has disco beats in the background. I'll always prefer this version since it feels so sincere.

  • @kinenai

Yeah it's a progressive dance tune with good vocals, but this instrumental is more heart felt. If you like dance music check it out, but no haters. I have spent the last hour trying to remember all of this. lol

    Jakatta Feat Seal My Vision

  • I am 19 years old. Anyway me and one of my best mates love listening to this tune. It really helps myself and my mate relax through a troubled time or stressful day. What a magnificent song. I think every young man should listen to this to find inner peace. If you can't see beauty, at least you can listen to it :)

  • Simply wonderful sounds....

  • Suicides are always a huge catharsis. When normal people are driven so much to go against their natural instinct and kill themselves, it just conveys what kind of setting drove them so desperate that they had the sad travesty of taking their own lives. Although it was fictional, it shows the livelihoods and deaths of many who share similar stories as Brooks. I hope, as Andy liked to do, that they all find happiness, whatever they choose to do in the end.

  • this moment in the film really did move me, its so emotional. this song explains it all.

  • He should of killed his manager instead and got arrested again instead of using the rope.

  • Its sad seeing a man that does not understand the world he was forced to return to. The scene where he fed the birds in the park waiting for Jake to return really moved me.

  • I saw the movie so many times, this is my favorite soundtrack, it's so moving, like WOW <3 makes me feel so sad :(

  • When Brooks killed himself it broke my heart. They should give people entering the world again some support group or something. They are like children.

  • this is a real sad song, but theres another sad one, its called "Graveyard of Fireflies theme" its sounds powerful and really sad, almost makes you cry, you should listen to it.

  • This track is on God's Ipod.

  • Everything around you doesn't make a sense anymore

The music is touching your heart

    Time stops for 5:13 minutes

  • makes a man cry

  • I'm watching this again tonight, fuck it.

  • Thomas Newman knows what pain is.

  • Tchiko was Here...I lost My Only True Love...Could wait 100 years For her...Youtube is not the same for me now...Never love someone like this...

  • I was here like a boss!

  • brooks was here

     so was red...

  • A piece of music can't be destroyed once it's been circulated. New iterations don't make originals go away. No need to get frustrated with people trying to experience music in diff way.

  • this sounds similar to the green mile soundtrack by thomas newman agian

  • Steve was here..

    England.

  • i turned this all the way up on my stereo, closed my eyes and listened. tears were shed..

  • I can't imagine what it would be like to be taken from what you know, spend half a lifetime in the same place with the same routine and then enter a world you don't know anymore, being scared and lost. Poor Brooks.

  • My Favorite composer ever.

  • Each piano note hits me like a someone is crushing my heart..

  • Forget " The Godfather " ( I know - Cue the hissing, booing, insults, etc. ), " Shawshank " is very possibly the BEST movie ever made. At least in the Top Ten. The score is organic to the movie. Therefore, its score is the best or one of the best of any movie, IMHO.

  • It's a beautiful piece but everytime I hear it I ponder hanging myself like Brooks did.

  • @ 0:33 the piano hits my broken heart, melts it into a solid mass, I awake from a nightmare

@ 1:01 thinking about how life was

@ 1:24 about how it is

@ 1:58 how it will be in times yet to come

    @ 2:50 I remember how I am

@ 4:20 I am the unknown person who stays in the background...

  • @MrRoeljanssen @ 4:20 me too.

  • @MrRoeljanssen Awesome mate :) ... But how can something be Melted into a solid mass? ;)

  • @Cheesestring546 you know like something melts, and cools of, like iron ore melts and forms a solid...bar or something x'D

  • @MrRoeljanssen Wat heb jij in vredesnaam gerookt?

  • @luuko656 jezus man >.< boeie

  • @MrRoeljanssen zucht.

  • @luuko656 hahaha ja eh :P

  • @luuko656 Hollander, neem ik aan?

  • @EndlessRain50 je moeder

  • @MrRoeljanssen settle down

  • All I can think of is that really sad, but nicely written line james whitmore has at the end of this scene...

"I don't like it here. I'm tired of feeling afraid all the time. I've decided...not to stay."

  • Come and see my cover on my channel :)

  • This piece is pure bliss. It's like porn for my musical brain.

  • man I can't get this outta my head, such a fine piece, haunting, chilling, I like it

  • I am smoking a cigarette for the memory of Brooks......

Get busy livin or get busy dieing.

  • Does anybody noticed that Seal did a deviation of this music once? In the album Seal IV...

But this has nothing to do with it. This one is pure emotion. I was listening to Alkalyi2s interpretation, and then I wanted to click on one or two another videos... but I could not do it before it was finished. I really couldn't, my finger just would not press the touch.

    See? THIS is music.

  • @Seventaiji DUDE!!! I watched this movie last night for the first time, and when I heard this song I freaked out cus I KNEW I'd heard that piano progression before... Then I found my dusty old Seal album and skimmed through the songs and sure enough... Well, you just confirmed I'm not crazy lol.

Still, I agree, this song is the original, and much much better. :D

  • @llamahunter0 Glad to hear it, homie ;)

  • Jake :(

  • When I need to cry I listen to this <3

  • this part in the movie always brings a tear to my eye

  • great video man thanks for sharing

  • Such a simple song, yet so powerful in the film. One of the greatest materpieces of film as we know it.

  • "Maybe I'll buy a gun and rob the Food Way, and maybe shoot the manager as a bonus"

  • Brooks Will Be Missed. R.I.P. Brooks

  • Comment removed

  • It was only a story but after so may days in prison old man Brooks hangs himself when he is a free man. No reason to live in a changed but free world.

Which music should fit this story and feeling?

I quess Thomas Newman had a song for it and this one is the one.... Perfectly done. How sad and how good....

  • Life is but a fleeting moment in time. First there is joy but you only know this later in life when you live with pain, and then, time passes quickly while you watch your body deteriorate and you live a life of quiet desperation waiting for death to strike the final blow. Brooks wrote his own final chapter.

  • Gosh, I always get the urge to cry every time this part in the movie rolls around... And im never one to cry during movies...

  • @plutoniumtangent same for me, this part of the movie makes me well up n all and i never get upset at movie, i think shawshank redemption and the green mile are the only once really

  • am i the only person who likes dis song/movie who isnt posh

  • @jessebrade for me this is the best moooovie ever and after

    it always makes me happy

  • The song is actually titled Compass and Guns. It was probably one of my favorite scores of any movie, ever.

  • @NewMadrid01 Compass and guns was added after 'Brooks Was Here'. In the film we see Red on bail from prison and as he walks past a gun shop, he noticed there are also compasses. He buys a compass to help him fine the North wall in Buxton. Compass and Guns is the same as Brooks Was Here but with a harmonica peice at the end. Of course, relations to when Andy gave Red the harmonica, after he mentioned he played it as a younger man.

  • Where can I buy this song specifically?

  • You better get your own army pal!

  • @MrMattshadows

    joe pesci in casino right?

  • haha sure is. Awesome film

  • Evertime I hear this song it makes me forget all my troubles in life. I feel as free as Brook's bird "Jake"

  • Morgan Freeman's narrative was huge in this movie especially during this chapter. People will sometimes claim that narratives take you out of a movie, but I find the opposite. This was one of my all time favorites.

  • I agree however it was Brooks that was narrating over this piece of music which I found more moving because of his more senile voice.

  • @jenguind

Yeah - I guess I was thinking about the sequence at the end where Red got Brooks' room and they showed the initials while he was narrating.

  • @MoCatt I think it has a lot to do with his voice..i love it

  • @bighungary29 Yes. There is something very calming about Freeman's voice.

  • everytime i hear this song it makes me burst into tears, such a great piece

  • my first time in mid town Manhattan i walked along the streets listening to Newmans work, i got lost a few times but it was better than going to where i was supposed to go

  • goosebumps goosebumps goosebumps

  • Fantastic song.

  • Reminds me of the Road to Perdition soundtrack.

  • Same composer, Thomas Newman.

  • @MoCatt Thomas Newman composed the score for that movie as well, i believe.

  • i have a bunch of Newmans work on my ipod... sometimes when i am out and about, i play it on the headphones.... it gives everything you see so much more meaning and emotional feeling.. its cool lol

  • @nosoupforyou75 sweeet

  • @nosoupforyou75 This is so true. I feel incredibly guilty that there is a lot of Newman missing from my most recent ipod sync. *Goes to change that*

  • @nosoupforyou75 thats how i feel about TOOL

  • This and the Song So Was Red and two great piece's of film music ever,

  • sad

  • I love this movie and this song but its sad because it reminds me of how my dad died when i was 13. =(

  • rip , we all have something to be sad about , but remember fear can hold you prisoner , hope can set you free

  • guys i saw green mile last night , they just fall in the same category , even forest gump .

    epics

  • I always cry to this part.

  • this part of the film is made by this, brilliant film no 1 of all time imo no competition

  • Shut up alex you sound drunk.

  • Agreed with the no.1 thing.. This movie has everything there can be in a movie, makes you feel happy, sad.. Sometimes it's comic aswell. Genius, this song makes me sad though. It's still a great piece. Shawshank's one of those things that'll live for a long while yet.

  • I just love the freedom with this ... he has no beat or rythm to answer to he just plugs it out at his pace and the rest has to follow him ... love it

  • Thomas Newman's piano pieces are all so incredibly touching. Sad, but completely addictive. Once I put them on I have to listen to them again right away.

  • BROOKS WAS HERE...Beautiful music,beautiful film.

    Fabrizio from Rome.

  • RIP Brooks...

    Words don't describe...

  • RIP? he's a movie character

  • hes dead mate

    died this year in feb

    RIP Brooks

    what a film !!

  • oh the actor. gotcha

  • Phenomenal. The one word that sums up this piece. It just hits me in the heart, evokes a sense of hope yet still sounding somewhat dismal. I will forever hold Sawshank as one of my personal favorite movies of all time.

Masterpiece. That's all there is to it.

  • james whitmore was such a great actor. he will be missed. this is one of the most touching and emotional movies ever. everyone can relate to feeling alone. whether it be real, like prison, or if its inanimate. its moving. and if you have hope and determination, you can overcome anything. i dont care who you are or where you come from. this movie will touch you in ways you would never expect.

  • Beautifully captures the essence of loneliness with both grace and simplicity.

  • The Shawshank Redemption, there is no movie quite like it, the movie's ability to put your own life situation into the scene of the movie is remarkable. I mean yes, you don't need to be a genius to work out that a prison can come in any forms, not necessarily having to be an inatimate object. Because in the movie Shawshank prison is personifed, and there's something majestic about that prison althoguh i can't quite figure out what it is. I love most movies that are by Morgan Freeman

  • Rest in peace James Whitmore, you will always be remembered.

  • i just found out now he died , he was great in the movie

  • I am so sad that James Whitmore died :'(

  • Is this where Jakatta got the music for their song with Seal : My Vision????

  • Adam was here

    -newcoolnarutard1

  • Living with fear is disguisting.

Brooks Hadlen knew that very well.

    Rest in Peace Brooks

  • Josip was here

  • 'The world went and got itself in a big damn hurry'

    the absolute truth

  • an amazing, beautiful and inspirational composition by Newman his style of music is incredible. In parts so sad but in other parts so uplifting and comforting, bittersweet

  • RIP Brooks even if it was a film still made me cry

  • yes if you didn't cry or didn't have even a slight urge to cry you didn't get it then.

  • Brooks wasn't here :(

  • Bernie Madoff was here.

  • Nick Sburg was here

  • So was Neonman

  • Chaffy GLITZ was ,no doubt, here homies!!!

  • Sounds so similar to Thomas Newmans Any Other Name from American Beauty...

    Listen to them both...

  • Soliton was here.

  • my favourite film ever... i think seal ruined it 4 me tho. coz i heard my vision first, and that was all i could think about when i saw SR!! if u havnt seen the film, dont listen to my vision first!!! =)

  • Emotionally paced piece. Although far more percussive, you can see origins of American Beauty emanating from this.

  • Beautiful!

  • Seal use this music in- MY vision

  • The simple stuff is whats usually the best.

  • totally right!

  • 100% agree

  • death February 6, 2009 he was also in planet of the apes..

  • A great piece of music, from a wonderful film. It truly evokes the sadness felt by Brooks.

  • This timeless song goes straight to your heart and enriches your soul. It makes me look at life from a calmer perspective for a second. I can't explain it really, it just moves me..

  • i know exactly what you mean. i just lost my brother who was my best friend and lisaten to this song to remember. you said it perfectly!!!

  • calm music like this brings you to reality, while fast paced music with lots of crazy lyrics takes you away from reality.

  • James whitmore retired in 2007 and died just two years later.you know him,as brooks hatlen

    R.I.P

  • this song is so sad but cool one of the best movies ever

  • its beautiful how the music can touch the soul just as the movie itself can

  • thomas newman is the god of soundtracks!

  • AGREED!!

  • this movie touched my soul like no other ever did...............

  • The only word for this movie is: Amazing

  • well said bigjim ,,,,,,,,,brookes was great ,,,and what a film dammmmm

  • RIP Mr. Whitmore. Thank you for your protrayal of Brooks.

  • breathtaking masterpiece...

  • such a great movie my personal favourite

  • Thomas newman knows his stuff. Love this.

  • Again this is more beautiful than anything that I have ever listened too. It reminds me of life being an ocean.

  • I really love this composition and its funny to think that people argue during this life representing theme.

  • wot the hell is wrong with u! i just asked a simple question ass hole.

  • what is the name of this song? and who its by? i cant find it anywhere...

  • ''brooks was here...by thomas newman''....its so amazing!!!
