  • not a bad film but spartans didnt fight like this (more compact and disciplined) they would have lost on the first morning like that but good fun film anyway

  • spartan fucking campers

  • i used to fight like this, then took an arrow to the knee.

  • LEEROOOOOOOOOOY!!! JENKIIIIIIIIIINS!!!

  • This movie makes me thinks "Greeks, god damn they were badass to kick Persia's ass" and then I go watch Troy and I think "God damn, those Greeks are pricks!".

I have one thing I'd love to see. Leonidas v.s. Achilles.

  • @Coolwhitey leonidas fo sho

  • in high school i accidentally hit a teammate with a javelin during track practice. it wasn't through the heart or anything but i was blessed with the name leo for the rest of the year haha

  • seeing all these comments about u faggs saying that persia wasn't great

we are all persians (aka iranians) but the ones saying shit againts us are 90% not even greek .... c'mon man

with very much respect to the director of watchmen and suckerpunch

this movie is offensive to our culture while u cared about making the money outta lies that people love to see and believe .....and yes the movies action scenes are of the hook so fuck all u haters of reality ...

  • Only thing I HATE about this movie??

THE WHOLE THING LOOKS LIKE IT'S IN SEPHIA!!!!!

    Other than that, it's awesome!!!

  • 5 things wrong about this scene

    (1).the're wearing no armor

(2). they have anthen shields instead of spartan shields

    (3). broke formation

(4). leonidus threw his dori spear. the dori spear is the spartans primary weapon they would never discard it unless its broken or if their in close quarters combat.

(5). the furs on top of the helmet is foward instead of sideways

  • @McNachos64 ur gay

  • @MW3expertz just pointing out the things hollywood did wrong

  • @McNachos64 interesting

  • @kcirdrab yes very

  • @McNachos64 Wow, thank you so much for sharing. Can you elaborate? Do you have time? I feel like my appreciation of the film could be enhanced by more of your self-congratulatory bullshit.

This is a film. Watching this film and saying "oh, that's not accurate" is like reading Tacitus or Dio Cassius and saying "this history is bullshit, there's not enough action or violence". The concerns are discrete and unrelated. Fucking troll morons.

  • @McNachos64 i thought it was only roman generals/leaders that had the imperial ittalic helmet??

  • @McNachos64 and? its still an epic movie

  • @McNachos64 But it makes a kick a** movie though...lol

  • @McNachos64 but your still called McNachos.....

  • @DolanStudios ha i dont think that matters bra!

  • @McNachos64 lol

  • @McNachos64 I don't think any of that matters... GTFO

  • @McNachos64 its a movie,we will never know how spartans look like in the pass

  • @McNachos64 - Spartans fought in the nude, the shields have "L" in them for Laconia and that was a Spartan city!

  • @McNachos64 really do you do that with every movie like it fucking matter what they fucking look like

  • @VongolaXGeneration woah language young man/woman. i liked how this movie showed a perfect example of the thermopalye pass. overall this movie waz good. i just pointed out the things hollywood did wrong

  • @McNachos64 yeah but when does hollywood ever do things right

  • @VongolaXGeneration ha rigght;) lol

  • @McNachos64 So? How bout you go make a multimillion dollar movie, hire all the actors, and try to make this battle "historically accurate" which is extremely difficult, Mr "EvEryThiNG hAS tO b HisTorICalLY cORrEct Or eLSE iT bLOwS"

I dislike people who are always negative toward movies like Troy, 300, Titanic etc.

  • @iamthebomb17 who sais i was being negative i like this movie

  • @McNachos64 they based it off of the comic book NOT history

  • @WunderWaffleman it still hapend in history not accuratley but it happend

  • @McNachos64 also they are missing the thousands of athens soldiers that ran away. then the spartans fought

  • @Ps3scaryNinja right forgot that part

  • @McNachos64 -_- NERD! RUIN IT FOR EVERYONE WILL YA!

  • @KyUuBiIgOnEfErAl ha aww why does everyone call me that lmao!!

  • @KyUuBiIgOnEfErAl hes not ruining it hes just saying how it was in real life, and therefore teaching us all new things.

  • @McNachos64 5 things right about this scene

Its awesome, its awesome, its awesome, its fucking awesome, i love it. :D

  • @casinozx thoes are opinions my friend:p

  • Ω ξειν, αγγέλειν Λακεδαιμονίοις... ... ότι τήδε κείμεθα, τοις κείνων ρήμασι πειθόμενοι Ξένε, ανάγγειλε στους Λακεδαιμονίους πως εδώ κειτόμαστε, πιστοί στο θέλημά τους" "Go tell the Spartans stranger passing by, that here obeiding to their laws we lie" The epigram in tribute of the Peloponnesian hoplites in Thermopylae
  • The Lord's Angel killed 187,000 Assyrian soldiers in the Defense of His Nation Israel.

Jesus is Lord and God! 1 John 5:19-20

    Modern Son of Thunder!!!

  • this is HOLLYWOOD FIGHTING. Hoplites shields during this time period didn't work without a man beside them. you couldn't use it for yourself. They did this to force the group to stay in unit ( phalanx). also they didn't have swords, only small daggers. Finally the king would be in the back for sure. The vets were always in the back shouting orders, the recruits in the middle so they couldn't run and the frontline had the 3-5 year semi-experienced group under 30 usually.

  • Man these persians are taking archilles technique

    jump and strike the neck

    losers

  • @lehxp001 That is why the spartans are beating them...

  • @ipods36 agreed

  • actually the Spartans killings may have been exaggerated but it is very possible. most of their battle s as seen in the movie were in extremely strategic areas which always gave them an overwhelming advantage as usually during the battle the Persians could only send 5 men at a time at them and obviously at that number the Spartans easily were able to use phalanx to kill them

  • WHO CARES obout history! just look ;D how cool it is. history bla bla bla.. we newer know how it was then

  • @XxXOlegaSXxX Of course we know how it was then, that's not a myth, it's a historical event. The battle is described by Herodotus, the first historian in human history. The film changes some things, that's also true.

And of course I think the convertation is interesting, we can both watch and enjoy the film AND talk about history. History is not bla bla bla for everybody...

  • PERSIAN THE UGLIEST HORE COUNTRY IN THE WORLD 1 SPARTAN TAKE OUT 10 PERSIAN HORE YOU ARE MANY BUT HAVE NO WARRIOR GREECE ARE FEW BUT HAVE MANY WARRIOR. SO GO FUCK YOUSELF

  • YOU SAY SPARTANS FEAR A PERSIAN SAY THAT IN FRONT OF WE AND YOU WISH YOU NEVER WAS BORN WANT TO KILL A GREEK SPARTAN CUT HIS HEAD OF HIS HANDS OF LEGS OF HIN YOUNG OUT HE NEVER GIVE UP SO GO FUCK YOURSELF . YOU CAN TALK MUSH SHIIT BEHIND THE COMPUTER BUT IN REAL WORLD.........................

  • Fucking idiots dont talk shiit about greece or you can geta fuck out from this site. if that ugly betrayder havent betrayed greece the perian could never come in in greece. spartans are the best wariuor that even lived if you dont now idiots. proud to be greek few greeks stod against many sagapo greece(L)

  • this is kick ass

  • piece of crap. Persia is the one and only....what Sparta feared us for about 7000 years and Persia was unstoppable. Sparta only came to name 6500 years later. ANd besides they wuda got owned if Spartans came to Persia....remember that we went to Sparta with barely any food for many days

    PERSIA RULE!

  • @HUMOON1

You can talk and shout from your soap box all you want....but it's a historical fact that Persia never could defeat Greece (a bunch of city states that couldn't get along with eachother). It's also a historical fact that once they were united Persia was defeated by Greece. Persia was a empire that got too big for it's shoes and ended up failing (much like all empires throughout history).

  • @Axel1617

yh as i was saying we were untouchablke for like 3000 years...oh yes sparta only 500 years. Go back to basic maths, 3000 is bigger than 500 isnt it?

  • @HUMOON1 Before we start math, I suggest you work on getting at least a D- on your spelling and grammar.

  • @Axel1617 Greece has been defeated several times by Persia. It wasn't until the Greek cities confederated together that Persia was defeated. It took almost another 100 years for Greece to become strong enough to threaten Persia's existence.

  • @Axel1617 Yea. Thats why the Greeks were epic (especially the spartans)

  • @HUMOON1 LOOOOL how pathetic

  • @HUMOON1 alright its one month old but u confuse me! U say that the persians are apparently much better then the spartans rite? Well then the persians shouldve been able to hold their own so the fact is spartans held off the persians and greece conquered them

  • @HUMOON1 Doesn't matter how long they existed.

    Doesn't matter how the fought.

Doesn't matter what would've happened if they fought in a different place.

Point is, The Persian Empire doesn't exist anymore.

  • 0:52 was probably the coolest he looks so negligent to the guy he just took out with his shield

  • wow quality fails

  • one question! where leonides keeps his sword ?! :)) after he throw the spear it takes the sword

  • @razva81 his sword is on his left side, if you look closely you can see behind his left leg

  • Definately one of the best Testosterone scenes! The best is when he owns the guy with his shield and knocks his ass down! Beast!

  • 93 persians.

  • he probably killed about 20 people there

  • spartans are crazy

  • 0:50 Nigga, pleae

  • is there goona be a movie after this one

  • @mr393420 why would it he dies at the end

  • @syphon135 but at the end of the movie theres another army coming to fight the russians so there might a movi3 th3r3 im gewd at spp3lin arnt i

  • @mr393420 lol russians?

  • @samuriguy909 no exactly russians but i forgot the name for the other people so i called them russians sorry if i offended any one

  • @mr393420 they are against the persian empire

  • because its history the orical at delphi said sparta would lose a king or burn

  • I suppose you mean Thebans, not Thesbians? Thesbians is a literary term for actors. Has any one actually read a history book or do you just Google everything? So now you are experts? The Spartans were brutal people, but honorable in their own way, and that is what was needed at that moment in time, people who are fierce, brutal and ready to die.

They did indeed kill babies they deemed unfit, but then much of the world has done that as well.

  • At 0:26 how come both guys fell even though only one got hit? O.O

  • not much of this makes sense, but its visually stunning and eye catching, and very entertaining in a strange sort of a way

  • look at that he cut off his leg 0:47

  • ImaginedWriter Thebes were able to do that because of Alkiviades who convinced Spartans to change their way of life and fight again with the Athinians. He made them cut currency and built ships.Thebes wouldn't have a chance if they didn't change their ways. And after Persian war and 29 year war with the Athinians Sparta wasn't the same. This is why Macedonians also became powerfull. The strange thing was that they said ok with them and not with Thebes.I think because Thebes helped Xerxes.

  • @LakedemonP u cant make excuses for the decline of Sparta, it's better to burn away than fade, so remember the spartans as awesome but everyone falls, look at the macedonians and the english in the hundred years war i mean Crecy, Poitier, Agincourt and Vernuel, the english prevailed despite Frances numerical advantage and better equiped more established army England prevailed time and again largely because of the longbow and of course good tactics. Then Joan of Arc comes everytign went wrong

  • those battles happened during third persian crusade. It was the last chance of Persia to conquer Greece but they failed. But this wasnt the only important battle.Remember the battle of Marathon which changed the history of Greece and of Europe. If the Greeks wouldn't defeat Persians during the whole 3 crusades probably the history of Europe would be very different...Many countries and nations probably wouldn't exist.Scary i know but true

  • also the final battle lasted 3 hours. 30mins into it i think the king died then a hand full of guys draged his body into a conner and defended it for a few hours.

  • pwned at 0:00-1:13

  • There is a monument to their sacrifice and it reads

"Go tell the Spartans, thou who passest by,

That here, obedient to their laws, we lie."

  • At 0:53 it be like running into a cement wall. Haha, how unfortunate for that persian.

  • 0:36 BITCH SLAP!

  • I like when he cuts off that one guys leg. 0.0

  • pwned at 0:53

  • love that at 0:50

  • ya its written in one script that there were 7000 athenians along with the greek front there and other script says there were 10000 ;

    and the most fiercest and bloodiest fight of the entire stand off was for the dead body of king Leonadus - ; persians snatching it and greeks recovering it back then again persians took the body like wise;

  • I think greek have most interesting history in whole world. I adore those brave spartans who standed against great beast.

  • well at thermopiles were 300 spartans alongside along 800 thesprotians and hold their spot against 400000 or even more persians about 2 or 3 days but by no chance they were like the film.the fact is that they werethe best army at that time cause to theis superior training and advanced military techologhy compare to persians but they were dramatically outnumbered and therefore they lost with or without ephialtes intervention.and they were conquered by philipus and his son alexander afterhim

  • @galateagr Gerard Butler does look buff in his bare chest and all but you are right. The Spartans were encased in Bronze armor (weighing about 70 pounds) that gave them a big edge against the largely lighty or non armored Persians.

  • @obstcr1984 who cares it they were insanely outnumbered there was 23, 800 greeks against 3, 700, 000 persians.

  • the spartans as history tells were at the head of this combined army..the army was able to hold off persian attacks for nearly 3-4 days before the traitor named Ephialtes revealed to the Persians another passage around the pass.seeing the enevitable threat of this army being surrounded and destroyed leonidas orders the army to break up andfor the other city state soldiers to go back to there cities and to defend there own cities..leonidas following spartan law stays to block there retreat

  • Sparta though was not one of the states who gave macedon there loyalty but as the spartans and macedonians did not have any quarells with each other they didnt have to worry about each other being a threat(geographic proximity of the two factions also made warring hard)...2) The 300 spartans DID NOT defend the pass in the movie as it is shown...The main pass in which the mmovie 300 depicts the spartans holding was actually held by the 300 men alongside 10,000 other greek city state soldiers..

  • ok guys thought i might clear some things out 1) Phillip of Macedon DID NOT conquer greece..He visited it many times with his son Alexander who was actually taught by a Greek and thus the Greek city states (NOT EMPIRE as the greeks were not unified) gave there alligence Phillip as they also feared the rising military power Macedon had become..(phillip was preparing for an invasion of Persia..he did not live and as such his son Alexander took the army he had created and invaded the Persian empire

  • @ShowYourWorking "And Alexander of Macedon didn't even need to contend with them because his father had conquered all of Greece before he was even born! " Pardon? Utter Shite! If that was so i'm guessing Demosthenes' Phillipics were just pointless Tourettes based Rants!

  • Sparta ftw

  • this movie is epic bad-assitude in HD form..amen to swords, spears and bad attitudes!

  • That's gona leave a bruise in the morning...

  • For your info, Spartans were Dorians like Argives. But Dorians were a sub-tribe of the western Greek branch hailing from western Macedonia. The proto-tribe is called Makednii and gave the Aetolians and Macedonians and from Macedonians a part descended and gave the Dorians.

Apart speaking the same greek dialect, Macedonians and (pre-Lycourgos) Spartans had pretty much the same archaic Dorian organisation. In Peloponesian war, Spartans and Macedonians were allies.

  • Greece did not exist as a country back then. It was more of a notion. Macedonians did not "conquer" any "Greece". They beat 3 main enemies of theirs, the cities of Chalkidiki, the state of Thebes and the state of Athens. On the rest they prevailed politically.

They tried to unite Greeks under 1 flag, same as Thebans, Spartans and Athenians had tried in the past but Greeks back then could not be united as for them the notion of "nation" and "state" were different.

  • Why did they break phalanx?

  • "After the phalanx has achieved it's goal, the main priority of a Spartan warrior is to unleash hell against his enemies"

  • @GeamProducts rofl i love how u say "..unleash hell against his enemies"

  • @simoncase it was 300 spartans aganist all the persians the persians were on both sides... and it wasnt as strong i guess :P they shouldnt have though :(

  • @simoncase they had to cause there were so many persians runnin in different directions at the same time

plus the point of the phalanx is to confuse the enemy by standing together and do the same thing over and over and then break apart and attack the different soldiers coming at you... the spartans did it, the romans did it, hell it was the best military defense idea since they came up with the idea of shields

  • @simoncase because they are awesome :)

  • @simoncase THIS IS HOW GREEKS FUCKS!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @simoncase you know how these movie guys are!!!they want to make it as best as they can :PPPP

  • Persia was ruled by a council of old wise men and not some 8 foot tall circ de soleil reject.

  • Comment removed

  • persians got ownd by the strong spartans

  • And were conquered by the romans 500 years later

  • @LegoGuy87 No kidding, I wonder how long it took you to figure that out.

  • @LegoGuy87 your face gets owned by my dick

  • 0:45 to 0:50 is my favorte part of this scene.

    awsome vid

    5/5

  • spartans they well be defeated later by macedonians and greeks be added for the roman province by roman empire.

  • @Gab1n0III

r u friggin retarded the spartans conquered macedonia after a 7 year war nd sparta is greek city state

  • you frigging retard, the Macedonians conquered all of Greece.

  • @WholeTruth you retarded stupid learn history shit how stupid is FYROM HEHEHEHEEHHEHEE

  • @WholeTruth ...WholeTruth didn't post this. Time to delete this userid I guess.

  • dude 52 seconds it epic

  • persia is usa in this irony.

  • @sunshineflag why say that men?

  • @sunshineflag you have no idea how right you are.

  • History is writan by the victors so the facts will always be questioned, This film has the best battle scenes i'v seen. Leave the history to the pro's and love the film!

  • I think the part about the Spartans commenting about the large volleys of arrows was an actual quote from a Spartan commander who basically said that the Persian archers were helping them by giving them shade to fight in.

They had a strange culture, but they were one that valued prowess and courage in battle as much as the vikings.

  • I personally like the spartans better, the vikings were just brutal warriors who had a good way of manuvering and catching it's enemies of guard. The spartans actually have a strategy and move like a good fighting unit, but thats just my opinionn :)

  • And invading cities and raping the women.

    THE MORE YOU KNOOOOOOW

  • a spartan: next *another persison* died spart-*spear impailed him

  • the spartans were about 300 not a thousand and they were enough to kill xerxes army but the efialtis b i tch had to get the persians in an open space where the 300 had no chance .... im greek and this is a fact ( efialtis wasnt a monstrous human . the director made him like that cause he wanted to show obviously how evil and corrupted he became . )

  • I don´t read all comments but there was much more than 300 spartans.^^

Every Spartan has 2-3 ([in german: Heloten] They called themselves "homoioi" (equals)

So there was over thousend warriors of sparta.

  • Just because a spartan had 2-3 equals doesn't mean there were more than 900 spartans at thermopylae, and not every spartan came from sparta to the battle.

  • There were 300 spartans but around 1700 other greeks aswell..

  • yes it was only 300 spartans

  • There were only 300 SPARTANS. At the time the entirety of Greece was in alliance with eachother to fend off the Persian Empire.

Alongside were members of the Athenian Army and some others from Corinth, Thebes, and other poli in Greece at the time.

  • there are graves for only 300 spartans

  • yeah because there were only 300 spartans that died there. The spartans sent everyone else back to reinforce Athens' forces.

  • the 300 spartans were alone at the hot gates battle the spartans hated athens they would never reinforce athens other greeks fought other battles with the spartans but they fought in differnt groups not aside eachother

  • Where are you even getting your information from? Do you even know why Xerxes wanted to invade Greece??

  • xerxes wanted to take what greece had and add it to his empire my info comes from reality

  • lol if fu think about it power in numbers really doesnt apply here :P

  • 0:50 pwned!!!!

  • not th3 best, but very very very impressive!

  • spartans were some of the finest soilders on earth, if it werent for them incest breeding themselves due to lack of science knowledge (lol), they woulda still be great soilders to this day!

  • @udlock9 Spartans weren't well educated and were not the finest. They were good but there was better

  • too bad it wasnt actually 300 spartans

  • wait there was "300" the ma15 movie

and there was a movie caleld "300 spartans" right?

  • um actually it was its on my college history book.

  • Well, grow a dick ITS A MOVIE.

  • Um ok. Someone feels insulted, let me guess it must be a little kid. Wow great going, i bet that's how your parents talk to you huh ? Maybe they need to head on back to school and tuck you back in your mom's belly and and learn some education and manners. O and since i know you are going to comment back, good luck on that. FOOL!!!!!

  • 0.52-0.54

Amazing upper body strength from Leonidis!! :=)

  • ? ?

  • the part when he throws the spear..

I wish instead of the guy he killed being far away he was running at him so when he got owned by the spear up close he got pushed back by the force of his throw.

    mmmm

  • Ya, I agree with u, it would have alot better.

  • killionaire!

  • ya definatly

  • one of those guys got stabbed in the nuts

  • the first man who was hit by the spear was pawned by the spartans and got FIRST BLOOOOOOOOD!!!!!

  • MOMOMOMOMOMMONSTER KILL KILL

  • lol all i think about ween i watch this is

    duoble kill

    killing spree

    running riot

    killtacler

    extermination

  • KILLIONARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Perfection!

  • hahahaha me too.... in fact thats why i was watching it. i had remembered thinking about it and wanted to see just how good of a killing spree it was XD

and i see all the medals in the corner too.... beat down.... sniped... sword spree... XD

  • they really are the world's finest solgiers

  • solgiers ?

  • they really did not fight in this "solo way"

  • ya, youre right. they actually just faught in lines because the way they are fighting now, they would have been slaughtered because of the crowds of persians.

  • @1035573 the Thebans, under Epamidinodas, broke Sparta before Philip II (Alexander's father had subdued the city-states before Alex was born) even came into the area.

In addition to the shock of losing/being embarassed, after the the rest of the world saw that superior generalship was more important than a tight hoplite phalanx, Sparta was finished as a major power. So neither Alexander nor Rome had to work hard to conquer them.

  • @1035573 Alexander the great crushed sparta immediately
