  • Hi,

    How do you fain momentum?

I can turn from forwards to backwards and then from backwards to forwards and that's it. I stop.

How can I gain momentum and continue to move?

  • @aQuaLV1 You need to either skate forward or backwards or both in the process of switching directions. And it helps if you start off with a fair amount of speed before making directional changes.

  • some please help me. Bauer Supreme ONE20 or easton eq1 ??? which would be the better choice. thanks..

  • @prolite this tricks is actually called 'the grapevine'

  • @dominiqe90 "Straight Line footwork" is just a general categorical name that means any footwork that is straight. And actually, this was a tutorial request and wasn't even suppose to be part of the sport Xtreme Ice Skating. I know its' the grapevine but there's nothing I can do now. It's too late.

  • @Prolite What Skates Are You Using?

  • @bangaz808 I think I was using Reebok's at the time.

  • Never seen something like this before :D

  • @MrTimoLeto Pretty popular.

  • The part at 2:14, when i do that it kind of slows me down so i can only do the sequence like 2 or 3 times. Anyway i can prevent the slowing down?

  • @reavesdagon This technique is very foreign to the body, so there's really no exercise you do to supplement strengthening of your muscles. You must practice this ice-skating movement over and over again to gain enough strength to maintain speed.

  • @reavesdagon Im getting the same problem. Was trying it earlier but that last bit is basically making me stop. Guess i just need to practice. I noticed ur post was a month ago, hav u got the hang of it yet? lol

  • I knew the backwards to forwards part but never understood the backwards to forwards bit. Can't wait to get to the rink tomorrow and practise. But i''m on figure skates so i'll have to mind my toe pick on parts :/

  • @funkycarla8 Maybe you can do a video?

  • yo the millanman im from nz too i go to alpine ice and can do all that stuff me and my bro are 14

  • @projecthowl4 Kool.

  • the tutorial is good!

but the music is shit :p

  • @SimZurko As long as you learn.

  • @Prolite yeah :D

  • hey man i live down in new zealand... no we're not part of australia... and your good, me and a few others (13/14 years old) can do what you can do

  • @TheMillinman Kool.

  • no way i can do theat

  • these tricks amazing. I did this on my figure skates at a freestyle lesson. and got asked by almost 8 people how to . thanks man!

  • @CrochetAddict That's pretty impressive on figure skates considering the toe pick was probably in the way.

  • i stop when i do this

  • @TheMrSchwammkopf1 Need strong hip flexor muscles.

  • I have what might be a stupid question. I had tried something much simpler, turning forward to backward at speed. How much scraping should there be from the side of the skate blade. Should it be completely smooth?

And thanks for your videos, they are inspirational.

  • Scraping doesn't matter, as long as you're on balance.

  • thx dan.. i like your sport.. by the way im the one who asked you how to land 360 spin on facebook.

  • Thanks.

  • hay dan ;

    I can master the trick.

and i have found my fout

  • nice. congrats.

  • hay I forget to stay i going to the ice on this saterday.

So i gonna make a video of my problem.

  • After I see your video, I will help. I'd rather not guess.

  • okay i will uploaded soon

  • hey Dan,

i have already triede this trick but there 's a problem : i turn like a lefty but (like you), i 'm a righty. so i think i turn wrong.

And i triede to do it on the other side but is wierd.

have you any tips for me??

by the way my english is not so good srru

  • Please be more descriptive in explaining your problem.

  • see I 'am right and as i do the trick and by the first turn(to go backwards) I turn like a lefty with the problem that my right food is in front. And i already triede than with my left food to turn but is very wierd. so i hope this is more descriptive.

I think i must turn to the otherside.

  • I can make it =)

  • I think the problem is that i turn oncorrectly. Because i turn like you because i am a righty. And is very wierd to turn like a right.

I hope it a little bit descriptiver .

  • You know what.. I still didn't get the turn tho.. After puttin legs behind each other then the v.. after that, nothing.. Idk how to turn and complete it lol

  • Shift hips.

  • Nah Dan, your teaching is great! But maybe cus I really don't know how to shift hips well xD But today done it but when I come to the part where I need to do that thign with the toes.. It didn't work, I think that I need to watch it sowly to figure the secret in it :P Done it until the toe part, any tips please? :) Cus I really wana do it. Thanks alot Dan.

    Best Regards,

    Hisham.

  • I left a tip but not sure if it went through. I make this comment shorter. Use your hip muscles to force your toes together. Position your arms exactly as you would position your feet, and use your arms to simulate the foot movement.

  • thank you very much for this great tutorial! i searched long time for such one. now i tried it and - it really work´s! ;-)) just a few details still should be improved, i think... ;) (look my video-answer) nice greetings from germany!

  • thank you very much for this great tutorial! i was searching long time for such one. now i´ve tried it and - it work´s! just a few details still should be improved, i think... ;)

  • Can this be done on figure skates?

Or is it hockey-skates-only type of footwork?

  • Yes this can be done in figure skates.

  • Hey

I still didn't get how to do the rotation after crossing my legs.. Any tips?

    Thanks.

    Hisham.

  • Bring toes together and finish rotation with toes together. Let toes fall a part back into original positioning.

  • is there a how to on the grapevine? I am very interested in learning it.

  • No. I am sorry. There is no trick in Xtreme Ice Skating called grapevine.

  • its same like from forward, almost like mohawk transition to backward but the feet doesnt leave the ice. am i right? and its same like drunken sailor moves. well, i mean the element. correct me if im wrong

  • Correct on mohawk, but the Drunken' Sailor Element requires rear foot to be lifted rather than staying to the ice. You could however add your own Drunken' Sailor movements into this mix. After all, it's not part of testing yet and this footwork still has no name. So who knows. Surprise me.

  • Duuuude... great tutorial but the bits where you're actually doing it the camera hardly shows your feet! Very frustrating to watch.

  • My newer tutorials are much better.

  • thanks :) im getting better

i was wondering if you would do a tutorial for inward hockey stop

  • what is that?

  • i struggle with the 2nd rotation part

    any tips ?

  • Pull heels outward. Keep toes facing inward. Resist force of your feet coming a part as much as possible. Use muscles on outside of legs to keep toes together.

  • i love the look on peoples faces wen i do that at my job : )

  • hey dan i need a little help...i have crossover to my right but not to the left also i have it backwards too but not to the left..have any tips for me?

  • When I had this problem, I used one side to teach the other. Do it step by step.

  • hey dan i live in england and i was just wondering if there is any other people that can teach this sport apart from u

  • Hi. Our Members will be certified to teach the sport in your country in 2010. One Member is from the UK, and the other is from Wales.

  • i can do the first step, but i can get the turn to go backwards, when you get time, a turning tutorial would be honoured

  • I'll try to but I only have 4 days to cover mandatory items like the beginner and intermediary skill sets plus all the footwork, turns and jumps that goes with them.

  • omg i cant do it

dont get me rong i'm good at ice skating but i cnt do it

    wb xx :)

  • Are these meant only for hockey skates? I use figure skates.

  • You can use figure skates.

  • thanks dan i nailed it!!

  • ok good.

  • dude......ur the shit

  • hey dan m8, i play ice hockey for newcastle and england under 19's, so am a natural skater. i had a look at you tutorials a while back, and now im doing all sorts of tricks lol. il get some of my videos up, iv got some real head turners lol. if you could post up sumore videos of slow footwork etc i would be very gratefull as im tryin to put alot of footwork together and making alot of different variations. thanks alot dan, keep skating

  • can u make a video on how u do a 180 then cross skate off it, i always lose my balance, that would be sick if u did

  • It will be a while before we do more tutorials because we're working on Membership Accounts. The sport is about to enter a deeper level.

  • av got rbk 5ks and could u show me hw to pump them plzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • There's a circular pump on the side that you just push in. It's green.

  • how many times

  • maybe 20-40 times.

  • At first i'll give you 5* for each video Dan. I'm so happy about your videos 'cause they help me so much. I watched the videos 10times :D and now my drunken' sailor works :D So thank you so much and i hope you coin more tricks to show it us :)

  • wow...tat walking so nice!!!

  • I recognise that song!! It's one of animusics?

  • Just to say your a master to say the least i watched all your videos and try drunken sailor straight line footwork eagle stop and scissor stop is the ones i really want to do. don't know if i am doing straight line to slow and nearly fall over and stop same as drunken salor and tips for these stops and tricks

  • Thank you for your comments. Post up videos of any techniques you are trying. I will help when videos are posted.

  • wat is that song lol??

  • Your a great ice skater and your videos are very helpful, i think you are a great teacher to, thanks for making these videos they are making me better at ice skating, keep em coming thankyou !

  • nice video

  • hehe if u were over in the uk we could make a duo, you on ice and me on inline hockey skates :)

ive been watching all of your video's and i can do all of them on my inlines :)

  • Question mr dan Im using inline skates at the moment I have'nt been ice skating for some time ,but since i have been using inline I have improved drastically can crossover & do the basics still trying to learn backwards crossover on my weak foot/side.Anyway using your guide will I be able to transfer this onto my inlines??? Ice is way nicer then smooth concrete & more glide proof.

  • Absolutely. If you can not ice-skate during the summer, than practice on your inlines. It will compliment ice-skating.

  • when you have your blades sharpened how do you have them done? do you just use standard or owt else?

good tutorials btw mate. im subscribed now... theyre all v. helpful

  • I use quarter-inch hollow sharpening.

  • Btw, What skates are you using?

  • Reebok 9k Pumps.

  • Hey, Nice vid. Can you post a hockey stop video?

  • I will be doing a tutorial on "how to stop", soon. Maybe 2-3 weeks. "The Cobra" tutorial is coming by this weekend I am hoping.

  • Okay, Thanks a bunch. i'm learning alot from all your vids.

  • ok the straight line footwork sorry its what all the people at my ice rink call it

  • Not skating for a while is OK. Your passion will bring you back to the rink. I apologize for being ambiguous about Straight-line Footwork. Straight-line footwork is ANY footwork done in a straight line. ANYTHING, so long as your path is straight. Please refer to my other straight-line video tutorial.

  • hiya dan ive een tryin to lear grapevine but i just dont get it lol i can do the first part but then im lost ive been skating for bout half a year is that bad??

  • "Grapevine" is not an approved name by the Xtreme Ice Skating Organization and does not exist in the sport of Xtreme Ice Skating.

  • thanks so much for posting! this is great...hope to find more tutorials from you! Thanks again :)

  • Thanks Dan. I have this nailed, the only thing is..I lose momentum after about three rotations...any suggestions on keeping it?

  • If your technique is correct and it feels comfortable, than you are lacking muscle development. Best thing to do is keep practicing and strength will come in 6 months to a year, aprox.

  • Ah, that's it...I've only been skating for 3-4 weeks.

  • the thing is with you doing all these i need to do them the opposite way around left footed lol

  • Same techniques apply. I couldn't do it for both ways because of time restrictions.

  • elo u gotta come to solihull ice rink one day and teach me! have u got a vid on hockey stopping

    thx for the help:D

  • I have a video on the "Dime Stop".

  • oh! Of all things, this I know!!! some gal who used to be a champion rollerskater taught me that. It took me literally a few tries before I got it, then a few more to get it to speed. This is a lot of fun to do on ice.... Damn are your skates really sharp? or is the ice just really hard and britle? You have to come to San Diego and freak the figure skaters on adult coffee club sessions with your stuff!!! Suzy would like to see it too!

  • nice, i could do this anyway, but it shure took me ages to figure out the moves because of the speed of others whilst they do it, and so im sure this video will help out many people. Good Job and Good Work!

  • great vid as always mate keep making more

  • Awsome!!!!!!! will practise next weekend! wooh
