Seeing Rush actually play this live twice on the Time Machine Tour was nothing short of a religious experience. Just sat 3rd row in front of Geddy at a soldout MAdison Square Garden and they brought the house down all night, but the crowd went especially nuts when they did The Camera Eye!!!
They butcher the fuck out of Rush tunes starting with the lame ass vocals, the off beat drumming and the over played guitar. The bass lines are the only thing that make sense and they don't have that Geddy snap. Why try?
@alwaysopen Yes, so why do you expect cats to like dog food? Since DT is DT and not Rush, do you flame (oops meant criticize) DT for not playing Rush songs like Rush does?
oh my fucking god, another "Clone"..boomp boomp wacka wacka boomp wack wack smash smash...god i had to push cigarette butts in my ears, fucking terrible, yeah yeah yeah...another bozo wasting his talent to someone else's recording..gee fucking whiz, there is only one Neil Peart, serious dude, start you own band and record your own style, not trying to copy someone else's drumming, you might as well be masturbating with a cheeze grater, cuz if it's not your own music, no one gives a shit.
@nobodysfool454 - I wish I had the time or resources to JUST cover Rush songs as a part of me making a living and entertaining folks. I would greatly enjoy it and would hope that the fans did too. Would you rather have DT cover Elton John or Don Ho? Maybe Liberace? I'll listen to the Rush cover. I've heard many criticisms of Portnoy's drumming. Who cares. Is he happy playing? Are others happy to listen and be inspired to go play? At least it is music - music by RUSH!! Yeah!!!!
@nosamcuminhand1 Wow calm down. Dream Theater obviously has their own music which is probably far out of Peart's ability to play (I love Peart I'm not trying to bring him down). But Dream Theater has played a lot of covers to their favorite bands so don't hate.
dream theater has hundreds of their own songs. i was at this very concert and they played a full show of their originals.
besides whats wrong with a band covering another song? did rush NEVER EVER cover a single song in tribute in their career? plus, as much as peart was an influence to portnoy, anyone who isn't a rush fanboy realizes that portnoy has a much greater skill than peart does. sorry man.
@chaveznieves first of all chill cuz i was messing, and 2nd of all portnoy couldnt put togeher half as good of rhythmical and complex shit as neil peart does
whether the music that he writes is better than peart or not is just an opinion and is neither right nor wrong. mike plays very (if not more complex) beats that peart does. but thats just part of the style. portnoy could not play in rush. and peart could not play in dream theater (even though mikes gone right now...although i think he'll come back in a couple years) because they are, simply put, different drummers: both legendary for what they do
For such crappy video, how did this guy get great sound!? Aside from the crowd yelling "Yea!!!!" which i actually don't mind. DT probably only band in the world able to pull off RUSH this well (maybe P. Tree & Opeth).
musically a great cover- I'm surpised that the vocals were not better- several missed key notes however, I would have loved to have seen this performed live!
I ´m from Madrid-Spain, and I saw here a Dream Theater concert on Scenes from a memory tour, and they played By Tor and Snowdog song ,was amazing and great cover, between petrucci and Rudess Battlee...was incredible..I`m a Rush fan since 1980, and DT too, since 1st. album.
Very Kool ! I suggest James learn the lyrics next time. All in all a great tribute !!

HAHAHAHAHA!
To play (bass, keyboards and vocals) what "GOD" Lee does have 3 alone is the "Dream Theater" to do.
The singer struggles to sing like the Geddy.
Rush Rush is the rest is the rest.
James Labrie just ruined The Camera Eye!

It doesn't surprise me that they would do this.. Neil is one of Mike's biggest influences

@kissfan864 If you're any kind of musician Neil should be one of your biggest influences.

DT should cover their own tunes - period.
