There was only one-Dorothy Love Coates-every since I was a little girl this voice had the anointing and I felt it. When she would sing you could feel her relaying a message about God's goodness.
@MizLadyPreacher I agree. Make no mistake about it, Sis. Dorothy Love Coates had The SPIRIT of GOD dwelling within. She is gone on to Glory, but her Anointing lives on in her Singing and Songwriting and is still ministering to whosoever will, to come to GOD through HIS SON JESUS and to hold on no matter what. She brought the Heat, that HOLY GHOST FIRE and that kind can never be put out. Love Dorothy Love Coates and I'm glad to see these video posts of her and The GOSPEL Harmonettes : )
Straight Rocking it! Today's gospel musicians can't duplicate this feel; most of them are too busy trying to be heard rather than make the song groove...
@RavenlucJanie you not the only one The gospel music back then actually was meant to praise God. This crap they got out now is for their own personal gain and forture and fame. God is not to be mocked. They better be careful cause they are not messing with some any old God.
Dorothy Love! There is only one Dorothy Love coats. I grw up watching her ministry. Got a chance to meet her before her demise. Beautiful person and wonderful lady. I love DOrothy Love Coats!
it look like she standing on the piano, lol. dorothy had way preach in her songs & this video makes me wonder is there any davis sisters video in color
Church music or gospel music. The gospel is the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus! Gospel music is that which includes Jesus as foundation and story.
*If this song makes sing, do a litte dance, bob your head, clap you hands, tap your feet---PLEASE don't forget to rate. Let people know we still love this music!!*
Um speachless!!!! She is helping me right now though she's gone on to be with the Lord. Oh to live a life that helps people even after you are gone! WoW!!!
I have been on this sight for 5 nights, Dorothy Love Coates is my idle, along with Mahaliah Jackson. This song blesses me so much spirit, Holy ghost shouting, my my what a message comming from these women of god. Blessyou for her music!!!!!!!
This is the first time listening the her. This lady had a powerful voice and great charisma. Honestly I never heard of this lady before today. Now I'm a fan of her music.
This is the most unique (or unusual) soprano voice I've ever heard. If I'm not mistaken, that's Barbaragene Reid. In the 60s, she didn't sing like that. Check out the videos of "You must be Born again" and "He's always o n time"
Anyway I love it how DLC put's her signature ramblin' on at 1:22.
I had the prvilege of meeting Ms. Love during and after a concert in Atlanta at Wheat Street Baptist Church and she was a lovely person and all I can say is that her live performances are "off the scale"- it just doesn't compare to her recordings and videos ~~ the Spirit was in full force and she literally flew all over the church etc et al -- I've never seen such before anywhere - she had It.
Wow, all the wonderful comments about the GREAT Dorthy Love Coate and the Gospel Harmonetts. I can certainly recall those times of hearing her tear up the place with her power and energy. I had the opportunity at the age of 13 to back her up on organ. She made me feel like I was special and loved. This was a program with The CMB Gospel Singer - Alexander City, Alabama- Laurel High School auditorium 1967. Dorthy Love's music will live forever!!!!
This is powerful going through, coming through, the victory is mine music. It will stand the test of time. Thank God for the message and the messengers. What an annoited blessing!
My God!! Praise Him Dorothy!! Can't nobody match to them ole gospel legends. We need to get back to the ole time way. That's that keeping power of God.
You ask where the old-school church went? It went out the window when "money" became the driving force instead of allowing God's spirit to move the heart. The Gospel song writers of old wrote from the heart with true life-experiences. They weren't worried about hit records as much as they wanted to inspire and lead others to the Lord. Their music itself was a "ministry." They didn't live for entertainment at concerts. Their motive was to praise the Lord and bring us to Him.
Evangelist Dorothy Love Coates was one of a kind. She was a great woman of God. She and those Harmonettes, just like the Davis Sisters, would come into a church and tear the place up; just wipe out everybody. I saw this group many times in Chicago, back in the day. This song was written by her during the Civil Rights Marches. She said at one time this was her way of letting the oppressors now that we were holding on to our faith. The woman was something else. I rejoice every time I hear her.
I love this performance Why? I ts a real scenerio of what the people of God experience on a daily basis.Pressing on through life remaining faithful unto God.
Will someone PLEASE post more Dorothy Love Coates on You Tube? She is conviction, deliverance and joy personified. She is also a MAJOR force in American popular music . Without her records on Specialty, there is no Little Richard or Pentecostal thread in rock and roll. Still she herself never crossed over.
Mahalia still is my ALL time favorite and NO ONE can replace her but THIS GIRL HERE - She is definitely next in line. I have always heard this song in church and I must say, they did QUITE WELL but its good to she the original artist. Thank you, Great Posting!
It's a great joy to see where gospel music evolved from such pioneers as Dorothy, who endured many hardships trying to spread the Word in song in their day.
Della reese and Mahaila jackson. used to be my favourite gospel singers before i heard this voice... i enjoy her voice soooo much i forget to dance... her voice sends a tense shiver of enjoyment up my spine....
The blessed thing about it that years later, the Mississippi Mass Choir remakes this with "Mama" Mosie Burks doing the lead on their rendition of Holding On And I Won't Let Go My Faith
PRAISE THE LORD, AFTER ALMOST 1 FULL YEAR I FOUND. THIS SONG HAS BEEN GOING AROUND IN MY BRAIN FOR QUITE A WHILE NOW. TOWN528, Thank the Lord He touched your heart in order for you to put this song here. The BEST rendition I've heard of this song "ever", now if you can get me the 'original' version of 'You Must Come In At The Door', you've have made the rest of my year. Thanks once again and God bless.
This is a true testimony to where my spirit is today!! God knew that this song performed I believed in the 50s or 60s, I was going to need to hear this 9/14/2008. How could you not hold on to your faith??
A believe when the person who wrote this song wrote it... at the time was going through some things and just really wanted to tell some people off!!! But they didn't want to loose there religion so they decided to tell Them off in Jesus name!!! lol
I LOVE Dorothy Love Coates & The Gospel Harmonettes! This is HOLY GHOST-FILLED, ANOINTED "real" gospel music. She's always been one of my all-time GREAT GOSPEL singers. Her sopranos are GREAT in this song and others by her. They bring a unique element to her gospel.
Even though it sounds like the harmony is off when they sang like this back in the day, I love it! It feel REAL! Like the singers mean it and it is coming from a sincere place!
You are SO right! These pioneers taught our family to sing Gospel. Everybody can't sing it right. They'd open their mouths...blow your hair off...and sit down like nuthin...and do it night after night! OOOOOOWEEEEE!
Yeah! You know service/musicals/the industry, have become a little like robots...meaning there is nothing new...and so often people just sing to sing, and not really testify or minister...so "Hollywood"...LOL. But I am just waiting for the day when people my age get serious, and church gets back to the "way they use to do". LOL. Wonder if that will happen. :o)
I were gospel singer/ministers. They ministered with the songs. I learned a lot from Nancy Harmon when I traveled with her. She is an incredible Gospel Singer/Evangelist. Plays the organ and sings like a powerhouse...never breaks a sweat! The rest of us young people were worn out and she would still be going strong in those meetings. Taught us to be individuals and not "cookie cutter" singers. You so right.
Yup! Its funny, because if you watch the other generations, as they preform now a days...they can sing a 12 minute song and keep it going...like Dorinda Clark Cole she will and CAN sing for 30 minutes if you let her and then still give you 5 more songs! But todays singers...they give you a track and three, 3 minutes songs and be done. LOL. But you know, my gerenation is soooo gifted, can't wait till we all live a little more and put some livin' in the music!!!!!
I meant to say "They were gospel singers/ministers..." So true... These new kids coming up a nothing to mess with. I play the organ and piano, but I wouldn't touch those workstation keyboards for NUTHIN! Gimme a Hammond and a Leslie and I'm fine. I'm too old to learn the buttons and knobs! LOL Be Blessed!
It will happen.........let it begin with us, if we're still singing, let's pray on one accord for God to bring HIS real GOSPEL songs back! So, that saints can really get healed, and set free!! The church is hosting a lot of sickness and a release is needed. Mercy Lord! We must pray.
there will never be another her or them, that kind of power of God manifest on earth is very rare these days! there is yet hope! shirley ceasar, albetina walker, cece winans praise God!!!!
As belgian, I thought I would never see the face of Dot! I met Tony Heilbut in New-York and had the chance to meet Marion Williams, Frances Steadman, Bessie Griffin, James Cleveland and mother Smith, but Marguerite Yourcenar (french author) told me to go in this particular church to meet Dot and the harmonettes..too late...
More magnificent than words can describe! I am a true Dorothty Love Coates fan! An amazing soldier for the Lord! Her voice is so compelling. She preaches and sings... literally!
Too bad they were working with a track because they started getting out of sync. This is one of my favorites of the Harmonettes, but You've Been Good To Me is my all time favorite! I wish they had it on video. That song brings down the power!
Yes, she passed away a few years ago in Birmingham,AL...home to others such as Inez Andrews, Katie Sankey and the world reknown Birmingham Community Mass Choir
she reminds me of Mahlia Jackson

As belgian, I thought I would never see the face of Dot! I met Tony Heilbut in New-York and had the chance to meet Marion Williams, Frances Steadman, Bessie Griffin, James Cleveland and mother Smith, but Marguerite Yourcenar (french author) told me to go in this particular church to meet Dot and the harmonettes..too late...

Too bad they were working with a track because they started getting out of sync. This is one of my favorites of the Harmonettes, but You've Been Good To Me is my all time favorite! I wish they had it on video. That song brings down the power!

You should hear them on 'Let The Power of The Holy Ghost (Fall On Me)'...
