a little late to chime in but just for the record the second tune is not Drowsy Maggie. The first part sounds like it but the second part is completely musically unrelated. It is indeed a Clare tune as in Mrs Crotty, Patrick Kelly and Bobby Casey all of whom had slightly different versions of this tune. Yes "Reel with a Birl" is one name but it probably never really had a real ( or reel) name originally attached to it.
Hi, lolodu29 - For all I know, the first tune is "The Wind that Shakes the Barley" (O'Neill 1001 Tunes, no. 1518).
The second is a variant of "Drowsy Maggie", called the "Reel with the Birl" (according to the notes on the Mrs. Crotty CD, "birl" is a word like "twirl" - like in "give it a twirl"). It can also be found on Mary MacNamara's first CD, on Frankie Gavin & Alec Finn (where it is called "Drowsy Maggie"). Listen, if you have the chance. It is definitely better than the "tourist" version

The first reel "THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY" was made famous by Mrs Crotty from Cooraclare/Kilrush. She called it the "REEL WITH THE BERYL."
