Listen, morons. I have to put up with fat women taking class at the studio where I study ballet, and I find it "udderly" revolting. If the studio weren't so desperate for income (or afraid of discrimination lawsuits), the instructors would be more selective as to whom they admit. To see a fat slob post a ballet video on youtube makes me want to vomit.
As I noted in my earlier post, there are other forms of athletic activity that medium-to-heavy people can engage in, other than ballet.

"Normally" shaped girls should not do ballet. There are plenty of other sports available to them, e.g., field hockey. Just like "normally" shaped guys shouldn't do sumo wrestling. Sorry ladies, but if you're not toothpick-thin, you simply do not belong on stage in a tutu.

As a dancer, a trained one, a real one, with a real carreer on the field, owner a of a major dance company in Mexico and 3 studios at age 25, I studied in Mexico, USA, France and London
I learned in the good way that art is more than bodies, specially ballet, and unlike you (for what I can see thanks to your language) I had amazing parents that gave me a great deal of integrity for me and all that surround me, and also provided me with the best education I could get; the rest was my job. aeturnusdancer - take some time from your busy day studying ballet to study how to write proper English. If you prefer Spanglish as a language, then you are most cordially welcome to move back to Morelia. I'm sure there are lots of chubby Mexicans there who would love to have you open a ballet studio specifically targeting fat people.
Here in America we value being lean and fit. Have you ever seen a video of choreography by Balanchine where the dancers looked like mariachi band members?
I'm the girl dancing in this video. You're all right in many ways. This video is messy and Im not toothpick thin. I'd also like to point out the fact that this video is almost 3 yrs old. We put this up simply to get some feedback for choreography. This was done for an amateur ballet company and for me, ballet was a passion. It was not something i pursued as I knew I was not the typical ballerina in both shape and technique. All I ask is that critics check out our actual performance.
It's very nice. That being said, the only thing I think would make it better is if you took your time to do movements. Think of almost being late. Like in the beginning, when you bow to your partner, delay the movement- it makes it look more royal? regal? along those lines for royalty. and right after that, with your develope. do each step with a purpose-it makes it more powerful.
i thought it was lovely.. to the people who are saying shes "overweight" or "fat", go find something better to do. when i look at her i see developing muscle, NOT fat, which is more than any of the anorexic ballerinas can say. what makes you guys forget that this is just a practice, not the final performance? its obviously a rehearsal. i thought it was great.
I do not know this dancer. She is not "fat." Generally, this is what women look like; they have breasts and hips. This young woman displays these features typical of the female of the species.
Why not Youtube the Paris Opera dancers? Not to imply or suggest a comparison, but the PO dancers all look like humans and are the finest dancers and artists on the planet.
Lovely pas - I thought you were both great. Not all of the choreography is (what I would recognise as) traditional - did you work it out for yourselves or did someone make it for you? It works really well for you. Seriously, ignore the bitchy comments on here - they're from the kind of people who give dancers a seriously bad, uptight, up-their-own-arse, image problem. The soul of dance gets sucked out by these robots. Keep doing what you're doing, for the right reason - the love of it.
Oh and also, I personally think this janitor guy, if he really is a professional dancer, should not be one. Dancers who take it as a profession do so because they love to dance and they can appreciate the heart that EACH dancer puts into their work. Petty remarks and a competitive attitude display low self-esteem. Nobody really cares if you are better than the rest of us, at least we dance because we enjoy it, not because we want to be the top dog and rub it in people's faces.
you arent fat by any means. male dancers should know how to lift any dancer, as this one does, and female dancers should know how to be partnered and jump for their cavalier, as you do.
I do think turnout and flexibility need work but there's a very good technical aspect to the pas.
Nicely done. it could use a tiny bit more work but other than that I thought that you two work very well together. She's not fat all. You must be crazy just to even think that. Nicely done.
Wow, you ALL need to get a life. Do you think me or anyone else in this world cares about what YOU think we should improve on or how well we look in a STUDIO REHEARSAL?..not at all. But I encourage all of you, know-it-all pre-teen divas that will not ever have a professional dance career, to post some of your own dance videos, I promise the entire world wont laugh at your pathetic attempts at dance. come on now...video responses
Sorry hunny..shes not the right size for the boy..period. It looks painful and I hope that boy has med insurance b/c hes going to need it if he keeps on partnering with her.
Dont you think some of you are being super rude? She may not be "skinny" but she sure isnt fat. I thought that it was an ok dance, but it does need some work.
Where to start...Weight is an obvious issue, but so is technique. It wouldn't be so bad if she knew how work with her body. I see turned in legs, half pointed feet, and bent knees...
Hate to burst a dream but I would suggest college over a future dance career
She is not fat, by any means. There is a word, though that used to be used. I'm not sure if it is used anymore, though. It's called HEALTHY. And that's what she is. Have you ever heard of it?
Oh my goodness...I can't believe that someone would say she is overweight. Perhaps that wasn't the right word for it...maybe healthy would better suit her. They were both great, and I think we should stop judging people by looking at their size...talent is much, much more important.
the first problem is not tecnique or weight...the problem is HEART.If you don't use it,this pas de deux loose all its charm, and all your clean turns haven't any meaning.
very well done. i was worried at first cause you guys looked a little mismatched but you work together almost perfectly. keep it up. and that girl is not too big, companies don't think like that anymore, they look at what you can do especially in contemporary ballet.
I agree with you cizzzam. A lot of these people go around passing judgment on everyone's technique when they have nothing to show for themselves. Ignore any harsh comments and keep up the good work, both of you! =)
And regarding any weight comments... Kudos to her for being a healthy dancer.
hahahah these comments relly make me laugh...the one about the choreo sucking hahahahaha youtube any other nutcracker pas..notice somthing...yeah there the same..and a side note...really annoying how ppl are such great critics when they dont even have a single video of themselves for us to critique..i wonder why that is???
If any of this offends anyone then you will never survive in the dance world. Back to the dance....too flitty....not enough tradition and very girly...esp coming from the boy. Other than that..its ok. Keep going to class and girl....unless you are going to double major in something other than dance you must get smaller and stronger period.
im not a huge fan of the choreography, repetition makes this dance loose its power. its not bad, im sure that i could never make up anything like that so keep on goin
I didn't mean to be rude at all. I have the very same problem. I need to lose some weight. A skinny ballerina looks much more graceful and the movements are more powerful and stand out more on a skinny ballerina.
Well I disagree in this case. If you saw the show, you wouldn't think that. She was amazing and had so much more passion for the dance then just another stereotypical ballerina.
I know personally that if a girl is alittle bigger then I wont lift her. Its not ment to be. Ballet Pas is suppose to be graceful and weightless and effortless...not weightlifting.

I hope that you feel ashamed for the things you have said and in the
future will rethink your every move. If this paragraph here be a glimpse of who you are, I
think you ought to head back to the drawing board . The one quality that people will
forever admire in another is kindness, not hatred, not vulgarity, not rudeness, not how
outgoing you are, not bluntness, no the one timeless trait most desirable in another is kindness.
000stephanie000 2 years ago
Do you
remember how it made you feel? Remember that feeling, and ask yourself why on earth
you would choose to inflict this on another person, who you dont even know. This girl
did not once make fun of you, yes to put a video of yourself on you tube puts yourself in a
vulnerable situation, but no matter who you are professional ballerina or not, you have
absolutely no right to bring down another human being for being brave enough to try
something different.
000stephanie000 2 years ago
I do not know who you think you are, but as a human
being you are not respecting on a whole life as a general statement. That is pretty bad,
and I hope you are in fact still young and have time to recuperate from your embarrassing
mishaps such as this, before life passes you by. Remember the time when you were young
and everyone laughed at you, when your self esteem was so low and people kept trying to
put you down, remember when you cried because you thought no one liked you,?
000stephanie000 2 years ago
Dear Mr. Jamesthobaker
I do not know who you are, so i will try very hard not to pass too harsh a
judgement on your character, but i find your personal critique upon this dancer to be quite
offensive, along with unintelligent, and in the end embarrassingfor you. You are quite
lucky you are able to hide behind your computer screen and make judgements upon other
people without actually showing your face, very brave of you, a true statement of your
obviously kind hearted character.
