  • though i took up the bass 40 years ago next month, i still never liked the sound of it solo. its tone is too thick and coarse, though Mr Ibragimov manages quite well to overcome this.

IMO the bass is for continuo work in a baroque ensemble or 8 of us thundering away in a great symphony.

and i certainly do not think well of bass players who like to gate crash string quartets by playing the cello part and octave higher than written

  • @tadcastria

He's the principal bassist of the London Symphony, teaches at the best music schools in the world, and just preforms Bach's 3rd Cello Suite better on the bass than most cellists play on the cello. Leave.

  • @arondrusek not to mention its hella hard to play bass and he played it in the key most bassists play it in g major

  • I'm playing or a university jury in a week. My teacher just gave it to me two weeks ago so I've been practicing it a lot.

  • What Tuning is this in?

  • @HarvesterK47 what key u mean most bass players play in g major instead of the original c major

  • I was told over and over to listen to this and frankly it's pretty shabby playing....sorry but hero worship isn't my thing and there is only one standard for everyone....making convincing music. Also, I don't get the use of a baroque bow against a modern contrabass, but its hard to tell through all the choppy unconvincing and hyper rhythm. Anyway, using a baroque bow does not make it authentic. Truth makes it so and there isn;t any here, just a lot of pretension

  • @tadcastria id like to see your virtuosic playing!

  • @tadcastria well, then, i can see that this is quite an outrage. only one thing can be done to solve this!

you, sir, must go on ahead and play it BETTER!

  • anyone notice he's using a cello bow?

  • @echozoloo baroque bow

  • well time to go practice

  • I play double bass, and I feel like my forearms are very strong. But this guy can probably choke a bear with his bare hands.

  • @Vulturer Exactly. Playing a double bass like this guy is like chopping a tree down with your bare hands!

  • Is there a specific reason he holds his bow so far away from the frog?

  • @eMulett I actually just learned this yesterday. It's a technique used to play Baroque style music. I tried playing like that and it feels super strange. It completely changes the balance, and therefore the applied weight, of the bow.

  • @eMulett This grip neutralizes the camber of a more modern bow to imitate the outward arch that period bows have. The release of strokes in this style comes much more naturally when held like this.

  • 2nd principal double bass of the london symphony orchestra pressed dislike button :D

  • @jabba987654321 That's Joel Quarrington...

  • is there mp3 version of these performance?

  • Thanks for sharing. Absolutely perfect. Greetings from Argentina...

  • why do u use your right hand in te middle of the bow??????

  • @Alvarikoke16 it's a baroque or "traditional" bow held in the same style

  • @Alvarikoke16 the reason the hand is on the bow where it is, is because when the bow has no curve, as that era of bow, the balance point is further towards the middle... so, in order to get proper response whilst handling the bow, your hand must be closer to the middle... that help?

  • Who could possibly dislike this?!

  • @JazzManJoe1127 angry cellist ;)

  • @JazzManJoe1127 It must be a Mistake.

  • fucking greate!!!!

  • I'm on a playlist with a bunch of Bach on it, and I was tabbed out working on a paper, and I thought, "Boy that's sure an odd sounding cello." Though, if I hadn't tabbed in, I wouldn't have known it was a bass. And I even play the cello.

  • awsm instrument...

  • lol it'd be cool to see him try the prelude 6th suite--wait, is that even possible?

  • Contrabbassista di ottima fattura, buona è l'interpretazione.

  • @MonacoBlast I'm a bass player ya ham sandwich. I bought an unarranged copy of the suites and I'm gonna go work on them in a few minutes. You? It's the fact that you said they sound like shit on bass that makes you a dick, because you gotta be a few eggs short of a dozen to be that much of a callous prick.

  • @MonacoBlast and I suppose you can play that piece like him on the bass. It sounds absolutely fantastic, Bravo Rinat!
