This is a beautiful video. I hope you got the extra credit and then some because you moved me so much with this video it brought tears to my eyes. You are so talented. :)
You're a good filmmaker. I'm watching your videos over time. I'm sort of ADHD when it comes to other peoples' stuff. I hate that about myself. Are you a parent? I'm a big MO, but I wish I had had a child. I would have been a lousy - but affectionate - parent. Glad I found you (or, you found me, actually). Looking forward to more of your work.
You're a big Missouri then. Well, I'm a big CA. Yes, wiliefogle, I'm a parent of a big 25 year old. I've had many lives, you see. And it all led me to try to capture a feeling of regret in this video. It is regret, of course, for not being the kind of parent a child deserves. I think I succeeded to some degree in doing that. I'm currently living in San Francisco. Help!
Look at this. It's been days since your last visit. I'm glad you stopped by. Sorry I was out thinking of great video ideas. Unfortunately, they've already been done by others.
The feelings here are strong for me, having lost my father just over two years ago. I'm sure that there are things he may have wanted to say to me but couldn't say them to my face for some reason. It was not his way...
We should learn to express our thoughts and feelings....before it's too late.
This video really moved me....I'm seldom without words..but, at this moment...I just can't find the right ones to express the emptiness I feel inside after watching this brilliant piece of work. You are a true artist.
Nancy, it still amazes me how a collection of a few images can add up to a whole lot of feeling. I wish I could make videos that delight people always. But I've learned it's best to go with how I feel at the time. Next time I'll make you smile. I promise.
No need to be concerned about me not smiling. This is a brilliant piece of work. You have in just a few short minutes managed to reach in and touch people very deeply. I stand and applaud you.!!
I was just reflecting on your video again. It stirred up some thoughts of my biological 'donor' and thoughts of my dad. I wonder if he wonders about me and then feel guilty for being curious about a man who never seemed to care. Thank you so much for bringing me a new perspective. xo
this made me think about an incident when i was only 9, something my dad did, and he stopped being my hero for the rest of my childhood, 3 years ago i did the same thing to him, without realizing. after it hit me how i wasted years in being a terrible ass to my Dad. We talked a lot after that and i am lucky to say, he died as my best friend.
and furthermore.... so much more. What do i know about technical. Makes me want to go to the class, just for the assignment challenge. Criso work. I couldnt stop thinking about this one, as i stepped outside a few min in the dark... its poignant. The memoirs beside the table. The expressed feelings... Bravo Bravo
I feel, close to tears, yet so motivated to praise you here Robert. I wish for one day, and i almost had that chance, i could live in your mind! Your work is stunning, captivating and so technically perfect! Man,,,, i wish there was a bouquet of letters written for me... Love indeed!
It was beautiful and sad at the same time. It was like watching a movie where a father wanted to reach out to his son but felt that he couldn't for one reason or another.
That's a brilliant quote by Polanski. I don't recall ever hearing it. Personally, I think if a movie can take my mind off popcorn and chocolate raisins, it must be pretty good.
WOW. This made me well up with tears. So sad... Thank you for this. Makes me think how many times I have failed to say what I should have said before it was too late. Absolutely beautiful work.
It still amazes me how a small collection of images can make someone feel something. I wanted to make something sweet and heartfelt and work on basic editing. It turned out to have a little more meaning for me too.
I'm glad you're doing the Lemonette 12 Step program. I've seen more of your city than the one I live in, and I want more! Keep taking us to those unexpected places in your own back yard.
No, gosh, thank you. I feel like the neighbors who comes over, and all he talks about is himself. My video, my this, my that. Did you really like it? : )
Michael, we were encouraged to make joint projects, but I'm the shy type. Playing the part of the father in this scene is yours truly. Notice the second shot when the boat goes up. it's not the same one. I stepped on the first boat.
Contrary to how some may believe, artistry involves thinking and intellect as well innate talent. I hope you understand that my previous comment was a complement to your original ideas as well as your ability to execute them. Why would you think "many would say (thinking it through) is cheating"? As an artist myself, I wonder if others think no effort is involved in my "work" or if they even consider art as work at all. ART IS EVERYWHERE!! Think what the world would be without us.
Of course I took your comment as a compliment. I guess I was referring to how too much thinking impedes creativity, and then the time is gone. My acting teacher used to say, just do it.
Hey, Liza Manelli, Edith Piaf, and Joan Crawford made stunning come backs to the stage. What they discovered on their return is the audience never left. While some of us have left for a short pee break, we're still here for you, LeSaMilano.
You gotta send those cards. Don't put it off like I do. I might take an online class and probably one on campus. I never finished college, so I have a lot of catching up to do. It's going by pretty fast though.
Beautifully done. Took my imagination in different directions, almost pictured the letter intended for someone over the ocean and being pushed into water and floating away. Very inspiring - I enjoyed this.
Very moving and very well done Robert! At first when I saw you folding the paper I thought you were making a paper airplane out of it and was going to throw it to someone.
That was what I had in mind. But I went online and learned how to fold a paper boat instead. I could never fold a paper airplane that could actually fly.
Hey, I decided to go to school and major in film. This video is the final in my editing class. It covers some pretty basic shots. They're not really teaching film anymore. It's all about video. I can honestly say that my love for YouTube and the people I met here are taking me in a direction I never thought I'd take.
They have a pretty good program at San Francisco State. I think I'll be taking cinematography and screenwriting next. My favorite classes have been the history and theory classes where you watch movies for three hours and talk about them. My dream is to form a group and make really cool movies together. Let's do it!
Hi Robert, I've written many letters over the years that were never mailed. It's sometimes good therapy just to get your thoughts out on paper and then just cast them aside and move on....
Another thought provoking video! I won't even begin to think what was in your creative mind while making this video. A feeling of sadness came over me thinking of all the words that weren't read and the loneliness from the loss of contact for whatever the reason! This video isn't watched, it's experienced...;-)
Yes, that's it exactly, the loss of contact but not the loss of hope. YouTube and the community have helped me understand the link between the video and how it affects the viewer. It's a dialogue.
another great and different video. I think I know the meaning - or at least I got a meaning from it. Your videos are like poems only much better. It was like watching someone in one sense, but in another sense it was like having someone make a video and the course of it not being predictable. I hope it wasn't as sad as it appeared for you.
Well, making a video like this is very technical. I'm studying how to arrange shots around a master shot. That would be the shot with my back to the camera. I use a heavy wooden tripod, so it was a pain moving the camera around. But, yes, it was as sad as it appears.
Robert, I've been away from YT for a long time and you're one of the first people I'm checking out again. I don't fully understand this video. (Apparently the others do), But just as they used to, your videos move me like no others. You are such a prize. -sue
Hi, Sue. It's okay. I make my videos so that they mean something different to everyone. To me it means a combination of things. There's not just one meaning.
I wondered if this video was about such a situation when I watched it the first time around - a couple of months ago. When I watched it then and now I also saw in it a sense of the difficulty of writing a letter to someone you / I love, and the wanting to post it but the not knowing if one should, etc. This film was as beautiful and as glorious and as moving as ever. Also, your son is missing out on a great father. You are a great guy.
This is a beautiful video. I hope you got the extra credit and then some because you moved me so much with this video it brought tears to my eyes. You are so talented. :)

Yes, that's it exactly, the loss of contact but not the loss of hope. YouTube and the community have helped me understand the link between the video and how it affects the viewer. It's a dialogue.

Dear Robert,
another great and different video.

That was so cool and then it was so sad.
I wish I could give you 1,000 stars for this one.

Ya, sometimes you have to make these videos to get them out of the way. Then you can go out and have more beer.

Robert, that was very touching.. When you wrote "dear son" I got tears in my eyes.. You are magnificent..

My son is older now, and I don't even know him. These are the letters I wish I had sent him many times over.
robertpina99 2 years ago
I wondered if this video was about such a situation when I watched it the first time around - a couple of months ago. When I watched it then and now I also saw in it a sense of the difficulty of writing a letter to someone you / I love, and the wanting to post it but the not knowing if one should, etc. This film was as beautiful and as glorious and as moving as ever. Also, your son is missing out on a great father. You are a great guy.

Ah, StuartGalore, This project killed my Sony camcorder. It will be a while before any videos are made. The next one is a funny one. Promise.
