For me, Michaëlle Jean, like those before her, represents the one whose grand-father proclaimed the genocide of my Acadian ancestors!
In 1755, more than 12,500 of my Acadian ancestors, from a population of about 15,000, were brutally deported by the British colonial powers. Because of this forced exile or trying to escape it, between 7,500 and 9,000 died. Their lives were destroyed, their land and houses were stolen!
She is Michaëlle Jean and was contested by both sides for many reasons!
Her and her husband had relations with separatist terrorists FTQ. When films were produced of them toasting the independence of Québec, she said they were racist. OK!!!!
See Michaelle Jean: "Ce soir, je fais une folle de moi"
She's drunk but she's mainly mad at everyone who blamed her for becoming the Queen's lackey. She chose money and prestige over her freedom and principles. Her speech is tainted with sarcasm.
The Governor General of Canada does NOT represent the "British" Monarch; she/he represents the CANADIAN Monarch. One slip of the tongue and the wing-nuts are at it.
@crazyforcanada Canadian monarch? wtf......you are ruled by the english queen and her inbred european relatives......a canadian monarch would be one of the first nations people
No, Canada is *not* a colony. We have HM the queen as head of state because more of us prefer it that way. Don't assume that the queen has any kind of astounding power because she doesn't. The head of state is not the head of government. The queen acts on the advice of the prime minister - she doesn't get to dictate who can do what. Canada is a sovereign nation. We have our own laws and, while enacted in the queen's name, are still our own laws.
@Ruth42 - No, we have a Sovereign as head of state because it's in the Constitution and an important part of the form of government. If it was left to Canadians, who are mostly ignorant on the subject, we'd have been annexed to USA long ago.
Canada a UK "colony"? what fucking planet do you live on?

@Ruth42 What is this strange love of a medieval queen? Are we to enter the space age with old parasitic hieraldic family as leaders?
