This is the first time I have heard this and trust me... not much that Laura laid down has escaped me. This is so different than the version that is on the PL. She is so deep in to lyric!
caveatemp, nice try, but very disappointed your photo array cropped the picture of Laura, Maria, and Scootie. You showed all of Laura's tom cats, but neglected her favorite "She-line."
This is so BEAUTIFUL!! Much deeper than what she recorded for her first album. Where oh where can I get a copy of this? unless you plan to keep it on YouTube forever and ever amen.....
Oh God! This is FASCINATING and BEAUTIFUL! Where in the world did you find this? Have you got any other Laura demos? I would LOVE to hear how any of the beautiful tunes on "More than a new discovery" sounded in this early stage. I always wondered what "Stoney end" or "He's a runner" or "Wedding Bell Blues" sounded like when Laura was just crafting them at the piano!
Pretty amazing, eh? I wish there were more. Just this and And When I Die. A short cd that came with the new book called "Laura Nyro: Lyrics & Reminiscences" has them. We should contact her publisher or family or somebody. If there are more recordings I would sure love to hear them too.
Hi! I saw Laura twice at the Vic Theatre in Chicago. The first time was 1988 & the second time was maybe 1989 or 1990. The first time at sat right at a table right in front of the stage. It was an amazing experience! I am so lucky to have had the chance to see her in concert and I will always treasure that experience! Peace to you.... Cathy xo
Hi Caveatemp. I loved your " And When I Die" video. Peace & Love to you!!!!!
Laura songs/lp's? Your 3 are excellent choices. My favorites right now are: Timer, Blackpatch, Lu/ Flimflam Man( the demo version), Map to the Treasure. Christmas in my Soul. O.K. - narrowing it down to 5 was hard enough! "I am the Blues" is up there on my list too. I was "Luckie" enough to see Laura live in Chicago twice. Oops, gotta get ready for work....your friend, Cathy
You're quite welcome. I love this recording. It's Laura before the old men producers got a hand in. She is a real inspiration to me. I take it you're a Laura Nyro fan? You can't have meant the video itself was incredible, but the song, right?

Wow! What year was it when you saw her?
Good choices. I know, it's too hard to narrow it to three. It's like having only three foods on a desert island.

Yes, I'm a big Laura Nyro fan. I like the video as well as the song. Is that her songbook? I just think it's all very neat!!!

Wow! This is so nice, as you said-Laura before the money men had a chance to market her. Her music is so haunting and moving.

Age [old men producers] notwithstanding, of course the song..
1966. Laura usurped the "Old men producers" and created hirstory.

Oh yeah, and I do recognize the biography.

The songbook is an old one and out of print now, but it wasn't too hard to find. There is a new songbook that's thinner as well as a new lyric book.
Check out the video I did for And When I Die. It's from the same demo, just Laura on the piano.
What are your favorite songs/albums? For me, Timer, Christmas in My Soul, and I Am the Blues. (if I was forced to narrow it down to three)
