  • chalaaaaaaaasssssssss

  • Disappointed by this. Betty Buckley's is the best.

  • I like listening to this, but Patti seems disconnected in this performance. Idk, every gesture she makes screams "LOOK AT ME! I'M PATTI LUPONE!" There's little honesty.

  • @ThePhantom135 but that's why she's a star

  • transposed n what is going on with her "mannerisms" n vocal tics!

  • Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!

  • @TerribleGreenBlizzard It's transposed. She's definitely on pitch in this key, but in my opinion its just more impressive to really nail the C#s on "fly with me" and such. It's an extremely difficult and enjoyable song. If you really like the song, there's a great version of it on my page that I did with a vocalist at my school. It's deff worth a listen.

  • I'd like to hear her sing it in the right key: A whole step higher than she's trying to sing it here.

  • @thedragonmaster1 Are you suggesting that she is singing under pitch the whole time or it was transposed down? I am just wondering. This song is incredibly difficult to sing.... and it is more about the journey then the key. Some songs have to be sung in the original key but I don't see this as one of those. Of course... opinions differ respectably

  • NO

  • lol i know what a chalice is lol i was being a smart a**

  • Listen to Betty Buckley's version, It was written for her originally but she didnt get the part due to the director. Love Patti- but this is Betty's song.

  • @Bufordguy

Actually, that is not correct. The original wife was Carol Demas, who was replaced in Los Angeles by this little Italian girl by the name of Patti LuPone. I know first hand because my partner at the time was her agent at William Morris.

Couldn't figure out why they would bring this person in, as she sat in the backseat our our car as we drove to The Brown Derby. Once she stepped on stage a few nights later, we couldn't take our eyes off her, and her Meadowlark was electrifying.

  • @harythng Actually there are conflicting stories of which Betty Buckley cleared up recently on an interview on the sirrius broadway channel . She was working in Steven Schwartz Pippen for where Mr Schwartz presented her with this song. and helped develop it . she auditioned for the show 9 times and was not given the role. The director went with ms. Demas. Patti did replace her. So in away I can see where Betty can claim it be hers.

  • lol whats an ivory challaaasss

  • @EnterSL you know like "The Chalice and the Blade"? Its a cup... like the Holy Grail is a Chalice.

  • She is sooooooo CRAZY!!!

  • She is superb! In a class all by herself....

  • okay so i have seen 3 different versions of meadowlark sang by Ms.LuPone and i couldnt't understand why people kept sang crotch grab until the end i dont know what THAT was about but okay. She can be very...wrong at times to but it in that way :) watch summer of sam part 4 and see if you dont agree :)

  • WHAT KEY IS THIS IN????

  • @MaryBridget12

    Sounds like Eb major.

  • She recorded this song FIRST in the soundtrack to The Baker's Wife-- by Stephen Schwartz-- in which this song appears.

  • sing for me my meadowlark, of the silver morning

the god of the sun gave her sight

    Fly with me...

  • Love that pose she does on the last note. First the Praying Mantis, and then the Climaxing Patti.

  • @DivaBehavior OH my gosh lol. I couldn't stop laughing after I heard that. Climaxing Patti some went home and had fun that night ;). She sounds so different in the Les mouches version. She lowered the key here and she is pronouncing words here....very differently than the Patti I know. I though she was pregnant at first i felt so stupid and bad when she turned the to the side and the stomach area was flat oops :) lmao

  • I love it....most people would think the "crotch grab" is weird, but she's just trying to latch on to something to get her through that strong, powerful note...I'm sure she was almost out of breath! This is by far my favorite song since I've heard her sing it!!!

  • This is a beautiful character song; why is this singer rushing and barking through it as though it were a German Fatherland March??? Well, at least SHE seems beyond pleased with her performance at the end!!! (I love the back-tossed head of victory before the applause even begins!) Thanks for posting this unusual performance.

  • its too fast. and the crotch grab...well...

  • Could you repost her "A Boy Like That/I Have a Love"- one of the best things I have ever seen!

  • palaaaaaaaaaassssssssssss

  • lol

  • LOL.

  • she's the best

    hands down

  • omg this gives me chills! i LOVE her!

  • thanks so much for posting!!

    do you have Anita/Maria, too?!

nothing beats her ghettofabulousness in that one!

  • CROTH CRAB!!!!! Hotness :P

  • LOVE this woman.

  • But Patti sang it FIRST!

  • I agree entirely

  • jk i see it, i didnt watch it to the end

  • im a total idiot..where is the crotch grab.

  • 4:10 - 4:12 lol

  • omg thank you for resurrecting this!! :D

not only is patti amazing, the crotch grab is reason enough alone to bring it back lol

  • CROTCH GRAB!
