@fizzguts Yeah, they should change the name to the Pseudoscience channel.
Do you happen to know if anyone is suing MDI? I know most of the companies that have purchased licences to sell this fantasy vehicle aren't too happy with no deliveries and MDI's perpetual promise of "Next year..."
@BrucePBigelow Supposedly Catecar are currently in dispute and Eolo in Italy were going through the courts. The New Zealand mob seem to have written of their $500,000 MDI moving it's company to the tax avoidance haven Luxembourg probably makes it pretty awkward
There is a disgruntled investors grouping action-group dot co dot cc who are pissed about the money but still believe in the technology Sheesh
@fizzguts Interesting. I don't like seeing cheaters prosper but it's hard to feel bad for the investors (suckers) who gave them money. I'm sure the engineers at Tata were consulted and then ignored when they bought into this scam.
Lets see this man use to develope F1 racing engines and apparantly you simply rant and rave. He has a few working proto types and you have allot of anger issues.
I bet you are simply sitting around looking to state the obvious negative comments to run something down, while you smoke something to get you by in life, I am sure.
The plan is sound and compressed air will be viable with a duel power car that will give this a range of more than you can even imagine.
Sound???????????? What is sound at this stupid and non-thought through air car concept????? Compressed air is the worst and least efficient carrier of energy. You won't be able to change that. At least, this stupid Frenchie should have done his homework!
Compressed air the worst and least efficient carrier of energy. To store 14.3 kWh at 300 bar in 300 l (90 m3 at 1 bar) reservoirs, u need at least 93 kWh on the compressor side (with an optimum compressor working on the ideal adiabatic limit and assuming a 100% efficiency of the engine, which is not in practice. Most of the energy is dissipated as heat).14 kWh is a bit less than 1 l of gasoline. So this Negre guy is either stupid or criminal.
The technology we have now makes storage at higher pressures possible. We have composite materials and better metal alloys to make the tanks from. We also have better motor/engine design and materials as well. Finally, we can now build a car that's lighter but still reasonably safe.
The volume of tanks per MDI's website are totally inadequate for the range / performance claims. Try a 20 foot container packed with dive tanks towed behind the air car to get the range speed claims.
Me angry? Absolutely, I hate these slimy con artists who have taken well over $13M from investors.
The air motor is constrained by expansion of an ideal gas that sets the maximum efficiency. Nothing in the "design" gives an improvement over existing uniflow expansion engines
Angry or not, you need to refrain from name calling.
As for the technical matters, I don't think the engineers at TATA motors would fail to at least test run the MDI car or realize major problems. Can you cite (web) a source that proves this is impossible?
I've found one which indicates that
"300 litres (11 cu ft) of air at 30 MPa (4,500 psi) contains about 16 kWh of energy (the equivalent of 1.7 liters [0.44 US gal, 0.37 imp gal] of gasoline, assuming a 100% efficiency of the engine)."
Email TATA. Ask them when they go into production Answer Never. They got burnt. Probably there is a marketing whiz kid now selling Tata cars in down town Kabul.
"assuming a 100% efficiency of the engine" And "assuming" I can harness flying pigs see you on the moon. Even if 100% was true = 28km Whee
Can you cite ANYWHERE on the web where a non MDI person has driven ANY of their cars to the promised distance or at the promised speed? I've been waiting 10 years
First, whether Tata got burnt is a business issue.
Second, no one announces a big business deal without first examining the product carefully. I've only run a small business and I sure wouldn't! TATA? I trust them.
As for the "assuming 100% efficiency of the engine* thing, that's referring to the gas engine, not the air motor. 16 KWH is about what decent home-brew-hack electric car with lead acid batteries has.
Now, where are _your_ cited sources proving that the physics don't work out?
Woo hoo, I'm awed by your intellectual superiority. You can gab and insult. I'm convinced! You're right. You have to be right or else you wouldn't need to sling insults like an insecure adolescent in his mom's basement.

No worries, fizzguts. If it weren't for my curiosity in the sheer size of human incompetence and stupidity, I would let this brain-amputated monkey invest their little money into this air car stupidity or try to buy one, when then also they will find out how stupid this concept is.
A video about amazingly green, cheap and practical technology RUINED by an UNBELIEVABLY STUPID SUGGESTION ABOUT. Anyone who suggests perpetual motion is possible is missing a fundamental grasp of physics.
I'm on a PC with no sound so I don't know if he directly suggests perpetual motion. However, it is possible to recapture _some_ of the energy through regenerative braking. That means putting out 100 units of energy and getting back, say, 60 units when you brake instead of getting none back by simply converting it all to heat. The Toyota Prius, and some electric cars do this already. Their regen isn't extremely efficient though. This could be better in the regen department.
i agree, regenerative breaking is going to be great when it happens, and sooner or later it will probably be ubiquitous. However, the video suggests that perpetual motion is possible in these 'air cars'. Idiotic.
Yeah, I'm on my own PC now and I too am disappointed to hear them claim perpetual motion's possible with this car. High efficiency? Yes. Perpetual motion? No.
This could make a pretty nice hybrid platform though. Electric/ compressed air, or gas/ compressed air hybrids are easily possible. Series hybrid would be the best.

Truly pathetic, but funny!!! Hahaha ..."racist sentiments"?? Why don't you think that the best wine comes from France??
to Guy2891, it IS possible for the car to refuel itself, however, i dont think it does so the way they were saying. It would refuel itself similarly to the way an electric or hybrid refuels itself, in that it would use regenerative braking, where the braking is done partially by running a compressor, thus using the cars kinetic energy to refill the compressed air tanks. this is similar to how a hybrid reverses the current flow to go from the motor (now a generator) to the battery.
Id love to see what that car could do up against a Tesla Roadster! but yea, i saw the "Perpetual" motion crap on there too, and now I guess the science channel just goes and throws the laws of thermodynamics out the window... Especially the 2nd one, where entropy, or randomness of a system always increases, thus making perpetual motion, impossible. Theres also a lot of cooler and wackier free energy stuff out there, just google "free energy"
This is retarded. I dont know about you, but i would really rather not be sitting on even 1000# of compressed air if some idiot crashed another one of those things into me. Compressed air is incredibly dangerous which is why the OSHA requirements for its storage are more stringent than those for gasoline. They should take that lightweight frame and look into linking it with Lithium Ion batteries, or hydrogen fuel cells, either of which is a better and safer way to store energy than HPA.
i saw this on the history chan and they talk about spending a couple of minutes running a compressor dosent use shit for fuel now i didnt hear anything about perp motion on that show but the fact is this car works and there also makin a gas air hybrid
Perpetual motion comments at the end make the whole deal sound ridiculous. This is an old idea that always had the problem of insufficient range.
