  • @CushiticSomalianMale mine too. cept me mum is indian...

  • @spyked1 then your moms must be from southern india where the real authentic native indiginous abOriginal indians live like the dravidians and other fellow chocolate peoples, they are the real natives before north-indian dot-headed aryan lightskinned hooknosed hairy spice boy and spice girl cowards overflooded india from the north and litteraly created a racist religion system called = Hindu'ism.

so yeh be proud of that fact that your mums must be a abOriginal indian then, also ive been there

  • @CushiticSomalianMale la7awla wala9owata ila bilah what kind of a message are you giving out akhi in isalm, what about our amazigh mothers in africa they are not black but we are still africans , ya allah bless all mothers in africa and salamu alykum brother

  • @CushiticSomalianMale with that kind of theocratically inspired stupidity, no wonder your country is ungovernable depending on handouts and support from other nations..your own government has been sitting in nairobi for decades and your countrymen are refugees and illegal immigrants everywhere.so yes, congratulations on your islamic superiority!

  • @njeridiva85

  • @CushiticSomalianMale BEST COMMENT ON YOUTUBE I READ A LONG TIME AGO !!

  • @BLACKWoOoO

    thanks fam...

  • @CushiticSomalianMale "We say a person who does not exchange ideas will have a head like a watermelon...empty inside" 12:25-12:31. You could learn something from that young MAN because you certainly are NOT one. Instead, you're the basest and most embarrassing caricature of 'the Black man'. Thank goodness my father is nothing like you. Please, bring on the hate. I find it most amusing to listen to ignorance in all its splendour.

  • you can see the wisdom running across the young boys face. at his young age.

  • I WOULD LOVE to go someday, like next year!

  • Go liya doing your thing w/ the proud ppl of Tuareg.

  • lol it's Phillipe of Arabia( or Sahara to be factual)

  • @Ravengaurd6

look at the worldmap nuthead, arabia got its own desert called arabian peninsula desert.. common sense !

and obviously even the dumbest most reatarded closet-racist offspring of adolf hitler would even admit to the FACT that Sahara is strictly african.. hence in africa to dumb-ass... what alcohol have u been drinking, let me guess george bushes piss.... lol funny dude

  • @CushiticSomalianMale first of all I said Sahara...and second of all I was joking.

not to mention that African cultures spread north, same as northern cultures spread down.

I'm black but that doesn't make me detest the slightest possibility of my background being mixed.

it is one thing to know facts, but it is another to comprehend and utilize them in a practical manner.

if you listen to the speakers and look at their clothing and their faiths, you'll see a mix of both arabic and african...

  • @Ravengaurd6

and let me guess when a black person like myself, infact a Darkskinned black person like myself, wears a white mans suit and hat andf pants, does that make my background mixed betwin african and white european western culture..

i dont think so... so using that arab black ect example was a complete failure on your part son.. lol

theres double standards to everything kid, so next time think twice before makeing a fool outta urself with your silly-ass examples

  • @CushiticSomalianMale

    actually no,

I'm not making a fool out of myself I'm just messing around...

you're trying to be like the militants in Rwanda that think they're so pure an excellent that it is not only their right but their duty to oppress and butcher whoever they believe are lesser beings.

I'm trying sync up to all different strains of humanity...you're just full oh hatred.

and you'll prove me right when you reply with a bunch of insults.

culture is something that is meant to be shared

  • @Ravengaurd6

Can you point out the things that are "arabic" exactly? Just want to be certain.

  • @lionzion22 easy. I'm rather certain that over atleast 60% of the native people in this video are Islamic. Islam is an Abrahamic religion that originated in the middle east and has spread all over the world from its center, much like it's brother religion,Christianity, did.

  • @Ravengaurd6

Lets realize that religion is fluid. The culture still reflects the native people even though they practice Islam no matter if people try to the preceived letter of their religion.

  • @lionzion22 realize that religion may be fluid but it aside from it's core teachings it comes with traditions that affect the dress and diet and sometimes even the language of it's converts. Not to mention the other cultural points that came along with it on the trans-Saharan caravans.

  • @Ravengaurd6

Well, the dress, music, musical instruments, and language here are 95% saharan and have been so since before the arrival of Islam.

  • @lionzion22 describe "Saharan"...because unless the people of the sahara were an isolated population(which they are not) it would still be a mix of multiple influences. as it is with all cultures over time.

  • @Ravengaurd6

It is a multitude of languages and cultures, but there is a lot of commonality if you are familiar with these peoples. It goes all the way back to when Mali was almost 3/4 the sieze of present day USA. From Senegal to Algeria to northern Nigeria/Niger/Cameroon. If you are familiar with it then you won't have to ask.

  • @Ravengaurd6

This commonality also stretches clean across northern Africa all the way to Eritrea and Somalia. This is obviously a migrational zone that has been in existance before Islam made it's way across.

  • Ive been to the festival four times and am hoping to get there again next January, if at all possible.. and back to the desert and my friends in Mali.. a home from home..

  • if I only had some friends or relatives near the queen of deserts, I woudn't hesitate a moment and would move there forever... consider yourself lucky ;-)

  • Hi. I certainly reckon I'm very lucky to have been to Mali so often..and to have got to know people there, whom I consider friends and "cousins".. and yes, I may yet move there for at least part of the year..

  • The photojournalist covering this story is my mother's cousin. Small world.

  • Can someone please identify the song at 1:30?

  • Khaira Araby is half Tuareg and half Songhai

  • LEAH KEBEDE, that is her.

  • At 11:59...Is that that popular Ethiopian model in the USA??? She was on the cover of a couple of high end mags I think.

  • oh wow, youre right. i almost didnt recognize her at first ..her names liya kebede and i believe she was in timbuktu for a US vogue photoshoot

  • ah..that's pretty cool. I gotta check this event out in this lifetime, hehe.

  • definitley! probably never gonna happen for me though

  • don give up the hope

  • This film is built around an African visitor, little Abdullah, and features an extensive interview with African artist Khaira Araaby as well as two of her performances. Other African artists, like Bamaco's Laji & Co, Tamikrest, as well traditional African groups are featured. It would have been strange to ignore an Eskimo act in the middle of the Sahara, or the Europeans that traveled thousands of miles to be there, no?

  • Yes George your absolutly right. Great film. You have covered lots of different aspects and views. By showing the europeans as well as Abdullah I have a better picture of the atmosphere at the festival. Instead of just focusing on one thing i.e Abdullah.

  • smart kid

  • OK - now I've seen Part II which does show a lot more of the African music, and the story of Abdullah the Magnificent is lovely. However, by showing so many clips of tourists (like me) and of the French organizer and European press, the film misses many opportunities to showcase the extraordinary African musicians and dancers who were there. Why wasn't any African visitor or musician interviewed? An African event and African talent seem secondary to the comments of visiting Europeans.

  • I was there! This video doesn't begin to capture the thrilling music of the many AFRICAN bands that performed. While I am all for musical fusion and collaboration in general, I think the Festival of the Desert should focus on showcasing African musicians only. There were European musicians and groups there who were absolutely awful - I can't imagine why they were chosen or who selected them. Does anyone really want to travel so far to hear bad rap???

  • wow, absolutely beautiful

  • VEry TiGhT! Music is VEry TiGhT!

  • na'aam very intresting i am to add that in the early setting of this areas history, the nuk people of which i am a desendant, where also well known artist and merchants traveling through the area...
