Wotan Bless... Steve, I am posting this message to you in hopes that you can answer some questions for me.I follow Temple of Wotan and am wondering what are your veiws towards us as followers of the teachings of David Lane?
And do you utlize the 14 word in your Assembly? If so would 1488 also be of use in your Assembly?
Steve, are you out there? First of all, glad Yule to you! I'm posting this on 23 Dec. 2011. Second - would you be willing to do other video commentary on other holy tides, such as winternights or harvest, etc? I think it'd be great!
And don't believe stories of human sacrifice. I've studied the matter extensively and such stories are typical of Roman and medieval Christian despots trying to descredit their competitors. For example, the eleaborate Viking sacrifice involving a maiden culminates in her role as a priestess being affirmed - something frowned upon by certain bishops etc.. - not in her death.
I just want to comment that in Buddhism, getting off of the wheel of incarnation isn't the main goal of nirvana, it's just a side effect of enlightenment, which is to, as separate from knowing, to fully understand the world around us.
Also, Sigr should have a longer i, like Sieg instead of Sigg.
@ArcticJeger: well, when you say "the magician/trickster/traitor Loke= is simmilar to the christian Satan." then according to that logic, Mars and Tyr and Marduk and YHVH and Horus and Varuna, etc, are all the same thing because they are all war Gods. Or, Freyja = Aphrodite = Venus = Bast = Oshun, because they are all "love Goddesses".
You are clearly not a hard polytheist. You are more of a "archetypalist" - one who believes all these divinities are different names for the same being.
@ArcticJeger: I didn't say he was the great hero. I have no idea where you got that from. And the birth of Christianity had nothing to do with Baldur. I'm not sure what you're smoking, but would you please share the wealth?
How about this: Fenris = time, which consumes individual consciousness/Odin. Odin walks with two wolves and two ravens; these are predatory and scavenging creatures. This tells us something of Allfather's nature - predatory and scavenging. He consumes. He eats. He desires more. And even death is no impediment to him; he can turn that into something new. He is also sacrificial; he hung on the Tree 9 nights all. He asks nothing of us he won't do himself.
@ArcticJeger I wouldn't say that. Satan is the Adversary; that's what his name means. Loki is Odin's blood brother and is a very important figure who plays a very important role in the Northern lore and psyche. He brings change, and sometimes works against his own kind to benefit the Aesir.
@ArcticJeger Are you Christian?? What is this "son of loki=satan" talk?? WTF is that all about?!
All of the children of Loki and Angrboda are entities that represent boundaries - and "boundaries" are not bad or evil. More on this later, as I'm at work right now and can't write too much.
@ArcticJeger you said: "Dont forget that Odin died from wolfs.Or it is written he became consumed by Fenris. Meaning Odin is very alergic towards wolf packs."
Then why does Odin have two wolves who hang out with him (Geri and Freki)?
He's not allergic to wolves. Between wolves and ravens, these are the animals most associated with Odin.
you're basing your argument on theories, you should read up more on facts. noone knows why the greenlandic norse inhabitants, (who were not vikings, as they did not go on raids) disappeared. this can be said through a plethora of different scenarios. lack of food, colder weather, further migration, civil war and so on... so like i said, base your arguments on facts.
completely true! the neo-nazis, bikers, and so forth seem largely ignorant to the fact that the norse weren't a "pure" race at all, rather extremely international in its orientation. in many ways to a much larger extent than many other people in europa at the time. in a large viking village or kaupang there would be people from many different areas, what we would now call nationalities.
thor heyerdahl put forth some intriguing theories on the origins of odin, for example. check them out.
@beepbeeprustrust hey hey hey, easy there on the bikers, some of them are good people. I live with an Asatru biker who is *not* one of what I call the "beeratru" or the "axeatru" ... the "beeratru" being people who think Asatru is an excuse to drink like a fish and "axeatru" being one who believes Asatru justifies random violence
The Asatru are accepting, logical, and spiritual at the same time. I've never seen a religious organization so involved or intellectual before. It makes me seriously consider becoming a private AFA Odinist. It's all about roots. I love the connection I have to Asatru and I wish everyone from every ethnic group could have this for themselves. Organic religions are best I think, I hope in time all of the colors, races and creeds around the world find their roots like I have.
Excellent points made here! I always beleived that the increase of our own personal might and main only helps others as we have more to give from. The way to get to increased might and main is to accept, look for, and create opportunities for victory.
to RolfLarsson people become asatru because unlike most religion's you really do feel it. You also have a lot of sense of freedom and hapiness. Ever since I found Asatru I have waken up every day with a smile on my face. It lets me enjoy life.
You'll get as many answers to that as there are Asatruar. I think people are attracted how it affirms the human experience, rather than saying that humans are "sinful" and need salvation. Being human is a good thing, we're inherently noble and special, and Paganism in general affirms that.
Paganism does affirm that, and that's exactly why I don't see why more people don't become pagan. Paganism is pro-life and pro-happiness and pro-human, while the monotheistic religions tend to place importance on the afterlife, on denying yourself, on being ashamed.
It's sad there aren't more polytheists. The world might be a more harmonious place to be.
Unfourtunatly, is it like being told all you life that something is evil. Some people are afraid, some inthralled at the idea of understanding. Some excell working in area already uncovered. Some excell in dark corners where few will tread. When fear of letting go of the 'all is one' goes away, them I believe that we will see, the living for today, to live for the sake of living. Not for the ends of a god(s), or a house of the god(s). Don't emulate here , instead resonate.
RolfLarsson, I would really not like to have a surplus of Pagans in the world today. I am Heathen myself, but I know that a faith that calls for its adherents to be as strong as Asatru suggests means that the adherents would become the "Wolves" in the world, and what are among us wolves? The sheep of lesser religions, and the sheep of society that are needed for basic functions. What happens if there are tons of Pagans? Too many Wolves and not enough sheep. Too many cooks in the kitchen.
It worked perfectly in the old world because the populations of ancient Europe were spread out and could have perfect communities, rather than todays mass populations that require more blind following in faith than the attention and fortitude and discipline it takes form Germanic Paganism (Asatru).
i'm quite sure that this particular video is about festivities and its celebrations towards a particular deity. i guess my argument is that you don't have to be a sheep to enjoy life. every one has its special deity people involved in the justice system may have Tyr, farmers have Thor, Nerthus, a couple may wish a child so Freyja would be a big part of your blot. not everyone prayes to Odin (war, victory, wisdom, prophecy, poetry, etc.).
acctually, it was qround 1200, we were the last to make asatru a crime. And if we would have stayed with asatru, we would have been shut out from trading with the rest of europe, and then the other scandinvic countrys would have crushed us.
This is not a strike against asatru, im asatru my self, but im also a realist.
Heilsan One and All. Great Video Drighten Steve. Its been some time but its great to see and hear you. Hope there will be many more topics and generalized information coming soon from the AFA. My horn raised in frith and kin. Hail the folk...In honored respects, Hildolf Vanirsson and Clan Vanirsson of Amarillo, TX.

I'm really surprised NO ONE caught that - that Odin has two wolves that are his partners, kind of like Hugin and Munin, the two raven friends of his.

@Yellothar4
Asatru is probably the only religion that I respect, it is my ancestor's path after all.
I 100% agree with their moral/ethical stances and beliefs, but I do not believe in any literal god or gods, it is more a symbolic thing for me.
